DGSD was one of the more peculiar novels of Jin Yong where familial links and long lost family member reunions ran rampant all over the place. By the end, it would seem that this was the wuxia version of a long running soap opera where everyone was related to everyone else in one way or another. Albeit it was ingenious how JY tied in all the loose knots, didn't it seem kind of strange that by the end, everyone was related?
Here is a simple game I've devised for us to enjoy. Naming one character, link him/her to every other character based on relationship (familial, same clan, marriage). I'll start off.
Xu Zhu
Xiao Feng - sworn brother
Duan Yu - sworn brother
Wuyazi - master
TSTL - uncle master
LCS - uncle master
DCC - martial brother
SXH - martial brother
Yip 2 Liang - mother
Duan YanQing - uncle (this also makes DuanYu his cousin?)
Croc Man - uncle / nephew (he is Y2L's sworn brother but also DY's student, ha!)
Rapist - uncle
Shaolin abbot - father (shaolin elders and 4 evils are sibling-inlaws!)
Wang YuYan - this one can get interesting. she was LCS's granddaughter, and since XZ was LCS's martial nephew, this makes XZ her martial uncle, and DY being his sworn brother, is thus dating his own martial-niece. haha.

You are right..DGSD is a reunion of a big family that's quite complicated, but interesting enough to make us watch and read the novel.

LQS + WYZ gave birth to Wang Yu Yan's mom. After LQS left WYZ, she married a Xi Xia King, didn't she? So, that's why she is Meng Gu's grandma.
