Watched "Placebo Cure" and rewatched "DIF4" recently. What a brilliant actor he is!

I've seen Sunny in DIF IV and the few episodes of FFoSM 1999 that I watched. I find him to be very "comfortable" looking and agree that he's a good actor.

What's the Chinese name for "Placebo Cure"?

Sunny is a pretty underrated actor, but he shines no matter how small his role is. I remember seeing him also in Kindred Spirit, with Kenix Kwok (that was seriously the best bit of the entire draggy series).

    Love him in DIF IV.

    Can't agree more!

The DIF I watched years ago was the dubbed version, so I didn't get to see the whole picture. I knew he was a good actor, but that was it.

By luck (and a bit of hard work), I got the original Cantonese version a few weeks ago, so I rewatched it. Gosh, he's better than good. He's GREAT. He can control his voice so well to reflect the character's mood. That's not what you get to see in every actor.

Same here. I think that Sunny is a terrific actor and he always does shine in his roles because he protrays the role to perfection. I just love him in DIF4. His character was very interesting and his acting made the character even better!!!

I haven't seen him in Placebo Cure yet, but I'm planning on getting it soon. Its released all out now so i won't have to stop and wait for more tapes. Hehe, even better

That's true. It's very rare indeed, considering the filth these days that populate HK TV serials.

Also, Sunny's character in DIF IV was very calm and controlled, and a third-rate actor would just come across as wooden and stiff. But Sunny pulled off Kong Chi San perfectly, From the mood changes, voice inflexions, the quiet and calm confidence he exudes... I'd say he's been pretty successful. Pity he had such lousy women as love interests (but that's another story I won't go into here).

    Here are some Sunny pics:

Agree completely Junny. His performance in DIF4 was just great. I would probably say that would be my favorite serie of his as well as favorite character. ^_^

'Da nan ren' basically means 'big macho guy'.

Goddess, I don't really think "big macho guy" is the accurate translation.

"Da nan ren" is more about a man's attitude than his appearance or manner (such as "macho", "sissy" and so on).

I think that's also what Cherrie meant by "a traditional man". If a guy is a "da nan ren", he thinks women should stay in the family, do the chores, look after their kids and husbands while men should earn money and have the say on important matters.

Da nan ren usually are not great boyfriend/husband material, because they are neither sensitive nor thoughtful. Or let me put it this way, Sunny's character in "Placebo Cure" is exactly the opposite to a "da nan ren".

Hehe, does that make you want to see PC more? Hurry then!

I think that machismo can be a kind of attitude. I doubt that many macho men like it when "their" women make more money than they do or make them feel small.

Well, this is what I got from dictionary: macho adjective: used of men; markedly masculine in appearance or manner.

I believe machismo can refer to an attitude, but it focuses MORE on the "appearance" or the "manner" part, that's why I consider "big macho guy" an inaccurate (instead of "wrong") translation. It does not grasp the gist of "da nan ren", because you don't need to be a macho guy to show "da nan ren zhu yi".

But then again, it's just my opinion. You may agree or disagree.
