I guess I like Jin Yong the most. He gives out the most detailed fight scenes and his story is the most popular. The most important thing is his novels can be re-read over and over again, although some parts are quite boring.

While I like Gu Long's novels as well upon first reading, I found that his novel lacks the ability to spark my interest for second or third reading.

Wang Du Lu and Liang YuSheng, I found to be great as well, but not as dynamic as Jin Yong.

This is like a poll asking who's the better fighter, Sweeper Monk or blah blah blah [insert as many names as you can here].

The problem I have with JY novels is that after reading his, I can't stand (most) wuxia novels from other writers.

I don't know if I can answer this question since it is based on opinion anyway. I have only read some JY and GL and like them both, but it just depends on the story..... I haven't read any of the other authors yet, so I can't comment on them. Basically, I don't like just one author or think that one is always the BEST over all the others....
Respect other people's opinions and views. If we learn how to do that than all of these fights and arguments will not occur.

Jin Yong and Gu Long are perhaps the most popular.

But Liang Yu Sheng is quite famous since he is considered as the starter or the pioneer of this whole Wuxia novels. His most famous work is perhaps the Legend of White Hair Maiden, which has been filmed and adapted into movies and TV series so many times. The most famous one was the loosely adaptation in a Hong Kong movie starred by Leslie Cheung and Brigitte Lin called 'The Bride with White Hair' The movie also won several awards by the International communities for its artistic values.

His other famous work is Water Lofty Vendant Bow.

Wang Du Lu has been recently made famous by Ang Lee's movie, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. He is currently working on the prequal of the movie, also based on Wang's novel.

JY is the best so far . i like all of his novels; esp DGSD .

JY's novels has depth . GL's novels still have a kick of modern society in it . i say i like JY's novels more .

    Jin Yong, of course.

Wang Du Lu's works are rather too melancholic IMHO, based on the summary I read a while back, but I have not actually read the novels.

I think JY is a bit too over-rated (here comes the flaming). No offense, he's a good writer and all, but I can't stand how people use him as a standard to judge martial arts novels.

Personally, I like GL the best. I like his style and his stories.

I read something in vietnamese that said
Jin Yong, Gu Long, Liang Yu Sheng are the top three in wuxia

    While the top five are
Jin Yong, Gu Long, Liang Yu Sheng, Wolong Sheng, (I'm not sure who is the fifth person but I think it is Wun RuiAn(since I can't really read pinyin well))

It is kind of weird that there are more works of WoLong Sheng translated to vietnamese than Liang YuSheng. and there are few vietnamese that actually know about LiangYuSheng.

well all the title are in vietnamese, and I'm not sure if they are translated correctly, so they might be wrong. ok, I try my best to put in pinyin.

    for WoLong Sheng
Divine Strum(as in playing a zither) Finger ( ??? Zhi Shen Gong)
7 Extraordinary Demonic Sword (Qi ??? Mo Jian)
    Yin Yang Three Scholars

there are more, but it seem quite hard to translate those other title

for Wun Rui An, I can't find any of novels.

Is that the Deadful Melody starring Brigitte Lin? Or is that Gu Long's work?
