Default XMCS and YGC to team up in the palace

This is actually a bit similar to Ken Cheng's thread in the past (too bad I can't find it) about how many soldiers can a Great or the Sweeper Monk handle. Anyway, in LXF novel, XMCS threatened to team up with YGC to wreak havoc in the Forbidden City. The imperial guards were quite frightened, I guess. If they did team up, do you think they could really bring devastating destruction to the palace?

Edit: found Ken Cheng's thread Maximum number of soldiers that a great martial artist can handle

I think it's because the soldiers were afriad of the two most amazing swordsmen. Also, none of the soldiers saw them in action, so they don't know really how great XMCX and YGC's martial arts were, hence, they were not sure if they could defeat them. Plus, XMCX's confidence was also intimidating.

For the absolute best martial artists, 3000 soldiers (which is the number of imperial guard personnel said to have been present at the palace) isn't a particularly large number. Yeung Teet Sum, arguably the weakest martial artist in the entire CONDOR HEROES TRILOGY, slew dozens of ordinary Sung soldiers at the beginning of LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES before he was finally overwhelmed. If Yeung Teet Sum could handle a few dozen, one would guess that a Greats-level martial artist could have handled a few thousand without too much trouble. Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yip Goo Sing, as far as we can tell, were probably no worse than the Greats of the CONDOR HEROES TRILOGY (although comparing martial arts levels between Jin Yong and Gu Long characters is quite difficult). The question that becomes most important, then, is the quality of the imperial guard. If they're mere soldiers, then Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yip Goo Sing should be able to handle them. If they're specially trained martial artists, however, even SMCS and YGS might not be able to handle that many of them in one go.

i think you have to take into account the fact that if a top martial artist were to fight a few thousand soldiers one at a time (or two or three anyway) then he would probably be able to outlast them and take down a few thousand. however, if we look at it in the field of battle, several thousand soldiers charging at once and not fighting a few at a time would be exponentially more difficult. think of it this way, if several thousand soldiers just piled ontoa Great, physics might well kick in and crush the Great due to pure weight.

I thought Gu Long's heroes tend to rely on how fast their attacks (Blingggg someone gonna die ). That means, while facing hundreds of soldiers at once, it won't work that way. (blingggg one is dead, but there still another hundreds of soldiers waiting to kill them)

The Liao Emperor, having witnessed how Xiao Feng could charge alone into an army and take down the leader in the earlier rebellion, prepared his most elite troops in specialised defensive formations when hunting down XF. But XZ and DY tore through the troops with absolute ease.

So maybe YGC and SMCX did not need to kill all 3000 soldiers to get out of the palace. Just mow through those that are in the way. Its not like they were in a corridor.

It could be like the game, Dynasty Warriors. Just plow through the army and get to the leader, hopefully finding some meat buns on the way to gain health . But yea, they don't need to kill all the soldiers to escape, they can just take out the ones that are in the way and some of the high ranking officers and they should be outta there.

What was the exact threat XMCS said? I have not read the book, so I don't know it but I thought he threatened to team up with YGC to wreak havoc in the palace, not to escape from it?

they did it becos Director Zhang Yi Muo is a fan of Gulong's novels. he gets the idea of Sword n Snow wreak havoc the palace from XMCX n YGC threatening imperial guards. Just like Zhang's new film House of Flying Dagger is based on Li's flying dagger...
