Default Innovative way of closing a thread.

The thread "Chow fun or Chow mien" that was started in the Debate lounge sucks as a topic. Meant as a debate on preference of two very popular food is probably not a well thought thread as there is really not much to debate.

However I think the moderators found a innovative way to close that thread.
First, move the thread to Academia as it is not a truely a debate.
Then the moderator closes the thread as it is not an academic thread.

This is a good way to close the thread without offending the starter.
    Just an observation.

Well there are a lot of cooking threads in Academia, so I felt it was more appropriate for it to go there. Virtually anything can be put in the Open Debate forum if you think having "discussion" constitutes debate. I just don't think X vs. Y topics with no substance belong in Open Debate. You said it yourself, there wasn't much to debate.

I don't see the closed thread in Academia, but I still noticed plenty of cooking threads still there. So I'm not too sure what happened to that thread.

Although I believe something like this belongs in the realm of PMs.

SC closed that thread probably not realising that you move that from the Debate lounge, seeing that that is really not suitable in Academia.

No hard feelings really and am not "going after the moderators" as moin joking suggested.

I was thinking out aloud as this event has been in my mind for a number of days.
I think that reinstatement of the General Discussion forum may not be a bad idea as many topics clearly do not fit in the present lounges. Repeat of the rowdiness in the past in the GD forum can be avoided by customising the lounge rules and guidelines to address potential problems.
