Wallace Huo’s interview with Easy magazine: http://page.renren.com/600229281/note/797254471

Wallace stepped in the studio with simple sportswear and looked like an ordinary person. When discussing about acting, his genuine attitude could make you feel of his passion about his acting job. Yet when facing with something else, he remained so cool about it. He, Wallace Huo, is a man between passion and calm.

Willing to share with young artists
With his years of acting experience, Wallace is a predecessor deserving respects from new joiners. Occasionally new artists would consult him on the sets “Sometimes they would ask me, but not too often as I’m still young, haha. Of course for people a lot younger I would share with them by feeling so as to bring them to the mood of acting. Sometimes I shared with them about what I had encountered in life, such as you are already pretty good as compared to what I did before. Just share some experiences”.

Acting is about sharing life experience
Wallace had played the roles of TV director, detective, spy, doctor, etc. When I asked him what role did he find most touching, he said: “Honestly there aren’t too many. If I need to say what roles do I have in common there aren’t too many either. It’s just a feeling of sharing my life experience in the roles I played. But…I don’t know how to describe it. This one is too difficult.”

    About his skin care
Easy collected many questions from the internet before the interview. One of the questions asked: “Wallace, your skin is so good, how do you care about it, any secret?” Wallace laughed when he heard the question. “This person must be a new Huami because I didn’t maintain my skin at all. A few years back my mother told me that I should maintain myself as I seemed a lot older now. I was touched.”

    Inner thoughts
E: Being an actor is a tough job. You must have gone through many ups and downs. What matters do you still insist on?
W: I am very firm about using my characters or projects to speak for me. This is something that hasn’t been changed. This has drawn many doubtful eyes along the way. They thought I’m too paranoid and not following the trends. But I still insist on my own way.

E: What other areas do you find interesting?
W: Up to now still the show biz. But maybe more related to behind the scenes stuff. I haven’t involved much in other industries and so have very little knowledge about them.

E: You are concentrated when acting. What other interests do you have that you put much of your energy into them?
W: None. I think I’m more shinning when acting on the sets. I’m a lazy person in real life. Maybe these two years I had been very busy acting and didn’t have time for other interests. For example, I like sports, like basketball, but didn’t have much time for them. Acting is my interest now.

E: You’re a careful person when at work, how about your love life?
W: Yes, how should I say? I need a long-term observation for someone to become my girlfriend. I’m not the type falling in love at first sight. I need to understand this person and need time to determine whether she is suitable. But the problem is when I start to approach her she’s long gone already.”

E: 2011 is almost over. How do you feel about your work this year? What are your expectations for 2012?
W: This year is really a busy year. All my emotions are in the dramas. I guess it’s sufficient for me to have people seeing my work. It’s still worth it. Next year other than filming I want to leave more personal times to myself. I need to relax.

    Fan questions:
Q: Your onscreen characters are quite far away from ordinary people close to us, how do you find your way to experience those characters?
W: Of course I can’t get close to the lives of my characters, but I can use my interpretations. For instance, I got some information when I watched some martial arts films of how the heroes presented their charismas in the shows. I then collected them for my own use. In addition, costumes are also important. Sometimes I got the inspirations from the costumes I wore.

Q: Hua ge, your birthday is drawing near. Could you reveal what’s your birthday wish?
W: I want to have a good new year holiday. I haven’t had a new year holiday for a long time.

    Others:
Wallace described his role of Meng Tian Chu in Xing Ming Shi Ye is someone who is outgoing and joyful. He found this role could relax him from his earlier serious roles. He said he’s satisfied with his Caribbean style costumes. He had a good time with Nicky Wu and they joked off the screen.

On the sets Wallace normally doesn’t play video games or go for a nap as he’s afraid he can’t get up for the sets and lose feeling about his characters. Normally he would communicate with the directors before the takes. Some directors may or may not take suggestions from him but the latter seldom happened. He said the director for Xing Ming Shi Ye is young and they had good communications.

When asked whether he would write scripts in the future he said it’s too difficult to put together a story, although he may suggest some changes to the scripts on the sets. He said he enjoys comedy more. He will focus more on dramas in the near future. As for movies it will depend on how the scripts and characters would come along. Movies are not priority at the moments.

    Tian Xia Di Yi

Maybe it isn't bad if these two can get together again for a drama. Besides, 唐朝风月 (Tang Chao Feng Yue) is a TVB drama which means it'll be most likely be aired in Hong Kong as well.

Don't really know for sure. But it seemed it was taken during their shooting for Tian Xia Di Yi. Wallace had that hair style when he first turned up in China.

When I look at this pic it's more about their youth and carefree. Also, I miss the bund!

Bought the magazine today. The magazine (almost an inch thick) comes with a side book of 2012 summer/fall collections plus a shopping bag. What's a bargain!

Wallace has most of the pages in the magazine. Oh, is that meant I've to keep this brick...

When did he dine at Da Marco with a big group of friends like that? Was it on the 14 of Feb? On Valentine Day?? If so does that mean he is still single? There is hope for me and lots of Huomi then. Yeah wishful thinking.
I think those pictures was uploaded on the 13 of Feb that meant he probably dined there on the 10, or 11 or 12 or 13 not 14. Oh dear, there goes my dream.

    Tobeme:

Wow lucky you, I wonder if I can send you money and u can buy me the magazine and send it to me?
Can you translate what it said in that magazine please.

100 trainers? Oh gosh I wonder if he has ever try them all. Where is he going to stock them?

He looks gorgeous in that magazine.

He dinned at Da Marco on Feb 12th (Beijing time). He wasn't spotted on Feb 13th and 14th. Probably hiding away at home, poor him. He bought the trainers on Feb 15th.

No worries, he said in the interview he doesn't have a girlfriend now and hadn't have one for the past 8 years.

No need to send me the money. But are you sure you want this brick? it's very heavy and weighs 2.5 pounds.

Since a book of Xing Ming Shi Ye's photos will be out soon. If I can get it I will send one to you.

Interview with Marie Claire. Here is a link: http://page.renren.com/600229281/not...9281_2&level=1

MC: What kind of men is more handsome?
W: Who don't pretend to be handsome. Being chic is from the heart. After 30 years old the inner self is more important.
MC: When do you find yourself more charming?
W: When I'm on the set or when I'm reading a script. Sometimes I need to take care of the female casts, especially during the fighting scenes. They needed to be protected. It's when I think I'm charming.

It's touch work to be an actor
At 4am, Wallace left Shangdong Movie Studio and arrived at the Shanghai Studio at about noon. There was no rest in between. These are Wallace rules on the filming sets - no sleeping (afraid may lose the feeling and only sleep after leaving the sets), no video games, no reading other than the scripts and no weibo.

This has kept his fans long waiting for his news "their personalities are pretty much like me, some are garden school and high school teachers, some teach painting, particularly quiet, particularly sensible. It's easy to open a weibo and post some photos to make fans happy, but I want to get their attention on my acting".

There is a question being flowed around among his fans: if you see Wallace in a public bus, why do think he's on that bus? Answers are: 1) save money, 2) has enough time to spend, 3) the "mountain top cave person" wants to experience the world, and 4) get attention. Surprised, he said: definitely not 4. Mostly likely 1 as well as 3. Their impression about me is that I'm a person living in the mountain top cave.

This image of pure and innocence has been created only accidentally "because I lived with a big group of people when I was filming, I want to be alone when not on the sets. I use to take a shower when I get up, browsing around and dine quietly".

Becoming an actor wasn’t what Wallace had expected for. He was shy and preserved as a kid. After entering the show biz “with an uneasy feeling”, he made a name in Asia with his role of Zhong Xiao Gang in “At Dolphin Bay”. After that, his mailbox was packed with scripts. Up until now, his record of 7 dramas within 1 year is still rare in the show biz. Now looking back, he had only little recognition of his roles in those 2 years. He only remembered riding his motorbike from one set to another set in a hurry. Didn’t read the scripts? No problem! Just followed what the directors told him to do.

But at least, “At Dolphin Bay” had built up his confidence. At this time, he wasn’t bonded by his name. He started to refocus his career in Mainland China. He didn’t sign up with any agent. His manager is his high school buddy. That year, he filmed “Hands in the Hair” and “Tian Xia Di Yi”. “After 30 years old I can’t say the same lines as I did when I was 18 or 19. This is beyond my imagination.”

“Hands in the Hair” is his first movie with intimate love scene. “There’s no enjoyment, only hard feeling” said he, “Getting into a relationship is one thing, exposing your spirit is another thing”. Being scare of “exposing one’s spirit to the public”, he thought, “After that show there’s nothing I should be afraid of any more”.

Far from being fast track to becoming famous in Mainland China, he had the freedom to pick his shows. “Didn’t want to be being just an idol”. Within 5 years, his various roles in 15 dramas to a certain degree are quite oppressive. “Being tied up, beaten up and locked up out of nowhere, plus brain tumor, being abused seemed inevitable”.

“Previously finding some screenplays annoying, but now they have become an easy task. Or else I change the plays or else I try to convince myself [to play them]”. After 7 years, He got what he had wanted, playing a villain in “Qing Shi Huang Fei” as Liu Lian Cheng.

There was a scene about him with a woman he didn’t love at the night after they got married. The original scene was about him being passive during the whole course. But what we saw was a ferocious Liu Lian Cheng: ripping off the bride’s cloths, broken pearls fell all over on the floor.

The changes in the scene were interpreted and suggested by him. “If a man lost his love, acting against his mother’s will, he must have felt oppressed inside”. The audiences may not understand it. You don’t love her, do you? Why are you doing that against your own will? But if we think differently: “if a man has lost his hope in life, will he care about his body anymore?”
The director took his suggestions and changed the script. This scene incurred many NGs and filmed until 2am.

He still remembered this scene vividly. “Sometimes if we think outside the box, it’ll have a different outcome.” This is now what he can find the joys out of filming. After all these years he politely accepted the screenplays of building a good man image, he has started to enjoy the freedom of his rights of being an actor. Sometimes this freedom is against his image and getting sympathy from the audiences. “An actor should be proud of himself if he can make the audiences having a nervous breakdown. Being an actor is about finding your own abusive”. During the whole scene, he laughed the first time.

In his two latest two shows, “Ultra Reinforcement” and “Xing Ming Shi Ye”, he played a comedy role, which was quite rare in his last 10 years of acting career. He had played many characters with revenges, hatreds and loves. “Basically I’m a pessimistic person. Sometimes I can’t tell whether I’m playing ‘him’ or ‘he’ is playing me.”

When a person is being oppressed for too long, he would have many fascinations. “Many great comedians, such as Chaplin and Stephen Chow are actually quite pessimistic.” He admitted his most famous star is Stephen Chow. He watched his “King of Comedy” dozen times but still found it fascinating. He saw how a pessimistic person played along the rhythm and timing of pretending to be a comedian. And now, a pessimistic person such as himself is trying to find a flexible expression in a comedy show.

MC: Heard you only go back to Taiwan once a year?
W: Yes. I’m far away from home and they have already got used to it. Sometimes I thought after work, I’m all by myself in a lonely room. All my happiness, angers, sadness and joys are resided with the audiences. How about myself? Friendship, family love, love life need time to manage.

I guess I’m an exception at home that I’m actually an actor. I thought my family wouldn’t watch my shows. But my mother quietly watched them. She said she cried when I died or got beaten up. I was shy, depressed and not good at expressing myself when I was a kid. My brother is good at expressing himself. He got As in debates. He later became a police and I became an actor. Destiny is a funny thing.

MC: Heard you still have an empty love life. Any changes to your view of a relationship in the past ten years?
W: Not much changes and still immature. A relationship isn’t the most important part of my life. Frankly speaking, I feel sad and sorry about it but I’ve no choice. This morning I saw a couple hugging before saying to goodbye at the airport. I used to get such a hug before but it only happened in a show. It isn’t real. I thought of getting married when I was in my 20’s. I’ve been running around outside and really want to have someone waiting for me at home.

MC: This… is making your fans heart broken. But at least you must have some expectations for a special ‘she’?
W: When I was young I was shallow and only wanted a good-looking girl. But now it’s more about the inner chemistry and harmony. There are endless conversations when the two are dinning together. Mentally I’m a bit demanding. I hope there are no miscommunications between us. Because I have spent most of my times filming, living with a big group, it’s brothering me sometimes. As such, I often need times all by myself. But generally girls are demanding more and more. They promised to give you space, but would end up tiding you up.

MC: You cooperated with many beautiful girls, Shu Qi, Ruby Lin, Betty Sun… could you rate them from a man's perspective?
W: Their glamour stays onscreen. Off screen they are like a common girl and outgoing. But for the type of girl I like, none appears among the girls I’d cooperated with. I believe someone common and natural is fine, no need for too much makeover. But once she puts on makeup she’s glamorous. Haha, very high expectations.

MC: Many comments said women have entered into a “carnivore” age. Are you afraid of it?
W: This is heavy. Maybe because women are becoming more self-sustained nowadays, their controls have become stronger. This is the so-call “male consumption”. I think it’s ok. If a man can consume a woman, why not a woman can consume a man? But I hope it won’t happen to me.

MC: Other than being an actor, do you have any other things that you want to do?
W: Maybe behind the scenes stuff. I’d been in many films conducted by others. Sometimes they weren’t what I wanted. Especially when the scripts and characters were against my own wills. It’s hard feeling. Sometimes I had to force myself in doing it. These characters ranked very low in my heart that I didn’t even want to admit that I played them. Maybe after a few more years I would feel differently.

OMG you are going to send me the magazine? It's heavy so the airfare will be a lot. Now I feel bad. Thank you so much. I will email you my address. You can wait until the Xing Ming Shi Ye photo book comes out and send all at once? BTW will the XMSY photo book contains Nicky Wu's pictures too? If you find a photo book that contains only Wallace that would be heaven.

Thanks for finishing the whole article on that Marie Claire

I didnt realise the violent wedding night scene in QSHF was suggested by Wallace. He is awesome. How could he come up with that scene, it made he looked ferocious, menacing and yet lonely, hurt and vulnerable at the same time. After watching that scene I realised that he was hurt so much by his mother. Kiddo to Wallace.

That photos book should contain pictures of many other people in the casts as well I guess. It said it'll be published soon but I don't know when. This Da Cheng company does know how to make money.

That violent scene is amazing, isn't it? I didn't know it was his idea until I read the interview. He often came up with suggestions while filming. Lin Zi Cong once said he's the only who read the CSKJB's script so thru out that he could link all the plots together, not just his own role. No wonder he hated his two years in Taiwan so much because he didn't have the time to read the scripts and only did what the directors told him to do. Once he said all he needed to do was to look "cool" in those idol dramas.
