During 2011 Wallace has shot a total of three TV dramas and a movie, namely, Bei Han emperor Liu Lian Cheng, returnee doctor Han Zi Hang, lonely scholar Yang Zhi Ang and returnee legal advisor Meng Tian Chu. These four different characters posted a big challenge to Wallace.
"I may choose themes and styles which other actors might not select. I want to try different things and not limit myself to certain themes which I believe is very challenging. I hope the audiences do not focus only how handsome the character I play. I wish to balance myself by taking on a variety of characters, and with each character has its own charisma. When I had too many love themes I would try comedies. And when there were too many comedies I would try detective themes. Mainly because I want to refresh myself."
For these four roles, Wallace felt Yang Zhi Ang in Chao Shi Kong Jiu Bing is the most challenging: "Generally speaking, for any good looking guy, it's hard to posture in such a character. He is a nobody and funny... but I like it very much. I only need to be as simple as possible when portraying this role; there is no need to dress up for it. Because I had not been in contact with such a character for a long time, so I wanted to try whether I was suitable for such a role. This character was quite difficult to play, but I am quite satisfied after finishing it!".
Chao Shi Kong Jiu Bing is a movie of Lam Tze Chung where he is the scriptwriter, director and actor. Wallace played the lonely scholar Yang Zhi Ang (Er Dan) whereas he time traveled to the Meng dynasty with the help of a coin. He became a hero by saving people and gained love and a bright future there.
As compared with his A Shou in Love at First Fight, he thought his performances for these two characters were different: "The key difference is because of how I view things now. When I played Wu Shi Lang I was young. I was a bit exaggerated. But now I understand comedy more deeply. I believe comedy does not necessarily mean making funny faces and winking eyes. It's more about the humorous dialogues and the moods of the characters that make people laugh. So basically it's largely due to my understanding of comedy.
Artists who once with Wallace in Chinese Paladin 3 had been in time travel dramas and are very popular. As for Wallace is concerned, he said starring in Chao Shi Kong Jiu Bing was a coincidence: "I didn't really particularly looking for time travel theme. It was a coincidence that Tze Chung just finished his work and approached me to star in it. At the beginning I thought I may not be qualified for this role because I hadn't played comedy for a long time. We talked for a long time before I accepted it. At the same time I wanted to test myself whether I could play such a role. If the audiences could accept me being a comedian, I would be very happy. My favorite is comedy.".
Not a bad idea ... wonder where I can get one made?
Come to see this... pretty amazing
Chao Shi Kong Jiu Bing BTS - Er Dan being chased by fans... The movie will be aired in January 2012 Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Weird hat. The pic at the left looks a bit like Li Ge Xiao.
Ah, A Shao. I remember I found it annoying when I started watching Love at First Fight. But after several epics I started to love it. Wallace was kinda exaggerated in his acting back then. Ever since CP3, his acting is getting better and better!
Magazine interview with Wallace:
Basically it says that Wallace chose this show coz this character gets to change his image a lot in it. He came from another country and started to admire Nicky's character and hence wanted to be an advisor like him too. He said that though this show is from a novel, he would not deliberately play the character to please the readers. The female lead was supposed to marry Nicky but the plan was thwarted when Wallace appeared. He hopes the ending can be changed that his character leaves so that Nicky can be together with the girl since he came from another place originally and it would be better if he leaves at the end of it.
