BEDFORD, N.Y. - Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman" movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52.

Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home, his publicist, Wesley Combs told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night. His family was at his side at the time of death

George Reeves (no relation to Christopher Reeve) played Superman on American television during the 1950s. After the show's run, Reeves committed suicide.

No offense, but what happened to Dean Cain? He's still alright isn't he?

Anyway, I feel sorry for Christopher Reeves, but somehow, I think he would be mroe pleased that he died of natural causes than by commiting suicide which he admitted wanting to do in the past (I think on 60 Mins). I admire his spirit and determinaton. May he rest in peace!

I read about the Superman curse before from what I remember Superman originally didn't belong to DC the Clark Kent character was created I think by two brothers and their first comic was an instant seller.

Later DC thought of the potential that Superman had and bought the rights of them and I think it was because of some dispute the brothers had with DC and the brothers got kicked out.

Ever since then whoever had the role of Superman and also people who took on roles in the DC governed Superman got very unlucky like George and Christopher Reeves death and Dean Cain lost his contract after the scriptwriters made a bad decision to get Lois (Teri Hatcher) and Clark together.

The public didn't take the sex scene to well and the series stopped airing.

Dean Cain didn't have much of an acting career since then. Though he did get some glory as some celebrity gamer or celebrity basketballer.

Yes he's the host. I feel so bad about it since I first heard of the news. He's a really good actor and I hope he rests in peace.

Yup good shows.

I think is not a curse... Even Reeves said it wasn't a curse. He just had a bad accident riding a horse... something you cannot predict in the sport.

He did the best he could after the accident. he was even in the Olympic commercial promoting it for this year.

He is a good man.

i was deeply saddened too when i heard of the news yesterday. my brother saw the news on the net (30mins after his death) i became extra sad when i read how he lived his life to the fullest. he's certainly one of the actors that gained my admiration. rip superman

It is very sad indeed. I saw his interview on 20/20 with Barbara Walthers. He was hoping he could walk again by the time he reached 50 but he did not.

Christopher Reeves looked the best as Superman compare to George and Dean Cain.

The main of "steal" in the cinemas... But proved to be just a man of "flesh and broken bones" in reality...

A man caught in a sea of fate, and tried as best as he could, could not overcome it...

i heard Christopher reeve died because he had fall from a horse years ago he broke his neck i think and was hospitalised and probally died from that so traigc
