I agree, she was pretty impressive in Spiderlilies but I thought she was even better in Isabella.

I havent watched "Isabella" yet but i heard she does very well in there. She won the best newcomer award for some film awards festival and was nominated Best Actress for the HK Film Awards for "Isabella".

Oh and I also hope she does well in The Mummy 3...crossing fingers her English won't suck because I hear she only speaks Cantonese and Mandarin and some English. I really don't want to hear a thick accent, Zhang Ziyi-style...and I'm also crossing fingers that she won't get STEREOTYPED since Hollywood does that to pretty much all ASIANS!

Not to worry. Isabella speaks fluent English. She has a supporting role in "The Knot" and spoke some english in there (with a bit of British Accent if i recall rightly). I guess it's due to her family background as her father has Portuguese blood (though he passed away when she was just a baby) and her apparently her mother is half-english.

The filming pics of The Mummy 3 does look like she'll get stereotyped though. In fact, she looks a little out-of-place in traditional chinese costume due to her mixed looks (just like Maggie Q, but not as bad).

I've always thought she and YM look alike. The first time i saw some modern pics of YM, I actually mistook her for Isabella.

Not to worry. Isabella speaks fluent English. She has a supporting role in "The Knot" and spoke some english in there (with a bit of British Accent if i recall rightly). I guess it's due to her family background as her father has Portuguese blood (though he passed away when she was just a baby) and her apparently her mother is half-english.

No her mother is full Chinese -that's just another rumor floating around. I've seen a few of her family photos a long time ago. And she says her mother is Chinese herself.
Also, if her mother was half English, Isabella certainly wouldn't look the way she does (which is alot more Asian looking than white).

Btw, how much English was it? If it's only a few lines, she could have learnt it off by heart, or continued to practice those few repeatedly for days...

You're right, in some pictures, she does look mixed (which she is). But like how Michelle Reis Lee Ka Yan can pass as a full Chinese most of the time, so can Isabella. They have a similar look in that sense.

Oh yeah, sunnysnow, some say that Isabella is 1/2 Chinese, 1/4 Portuguese and 1/4 English. And others get confused with Cecilia Cheung, whose mother is 1/2 Chinese and 1/2 English so it is pretty confusing...

Well you're right. In some angles, she does look very Eursian. But before I knew she was mixed (and now I find out that she's English too like you said), I thought she was totally Asian! Well it depends I guess. I know of some people who have more European blood than Chinese but they look like pure Chinese to me. On the other hand, you have people who are pure Chinese but look very mixed. There's this mainland actress (forgot her name) who looks very mixed eventhough she's supposedly pure chinese. Yang Mi who is supposedly pure chinese also looks rather mixed in certain angles and so does Carmen Lee.

Isabella is currently rumored to be seeing Richard Li, 41-yr old son of HK's richest man, Li Ka Shing. They apparently met on the set of "The Mummy" when Richard visited good pal, Michelle Yeoh. Isabella has reportedly stopped showing up for work and has moved from her humble apartment into a posh beachfront bungalow worth millions. She has also been spotted on shopping sprees, splurging HK100,000 a week on brands like LV and Hermes. EEG has issued a warning to her but she cannot be contacted. Apparently, Richard is willing to pay HK100 million to free Isabella from her 11-year contract with EEG.
