In ROCH 1st edition, the name of Golden Wheel Monk's School is Bit Tjong Pai (in Hokkienese). What is this name in Pinyin, and what will be the exact English translation (if any) of it?

Did the PC police force JY to move the GWM's school from Tibet to Mongolia?

Yep. Many readers (PC police) complained that all the Tibetans in Jin Yong's novels were bad guys. That's why Jin Yong changed Golden Wheel Monk into a Mongol, and his school a Mongolian branch of Tibetan Buddhism.Originally Posted by Candide
Lingzhi from LOCH is also changed... He is now a Han Chinese monk from Qinghai instead of Tibetan.

Were there that many Mongolian Tibetan Buddhists in the pre-Genghis Khan era? Mongolia has mainly been dominated by its native shamanistic religions. Eventually, Buddhism became one of the major religions within the Mongol Empire (when it covered most of Eurasia), but in the pre-imperial era, I don't know if there was even that much of a Buddhist presence in the Mongolian homeland.
If the Mongolian PC police complained about the same thing, where would JY move that school to? Japan or Korea?Originally Posted by Laviathan

Buddhism was introduced in Mongolia during the 4th century A.D., but it didn't gain a large following untill the 10th century, when the Khitans of the Liao Empire promoted Buddhism in certain parts of the Mongol steppes. Only after the death of Genghis Khan did the Tibetan branch of Buddhism gain immense influence in Mongolia.Originally Posted by Ken Cheng

Yeah, I know, it's silly. But come to think about it, there are a few good Mongols in Jin Yong's stories, while there's no single one good Tibetan character throughout the 2nd edition novels.Originally Posted by Candide

Thanks, Lavi. I guess Bit Tjong = Mizong in Pinyin.Originally Posted by Laviathan
