I think they're having bandwidth problems. Fung Label also have the mag scan, http://lamfung.net/mag/tvb/2005/06.jpg - but it seems that they're having the same problems as well. Too bad i d/l the scans to my pc (i'm using public computer this moment). I will re-post them if the pictures still couldn't be viewed by tomorrow. In meantime, if anyone has the copies please do re-post.

I never noticed the above articles before. Any translation of the relevant bits?Maybe more info on the characters?

By the way, has TVB set up a Yummy Yummy page yet at their website?

TVB only releases the official page a week before the series was aired

Sehseh... how are u with that article? Sorry, would love to help but my Cantonese is like 'half-bucket of water', I'm not confident of a lot of local terms...

A thought came to my mind... Do you think Mediacorp will break the rules just this once and show Yummy Yummy in dual sound ( Cantonese and Mandarin)??

Ok, here's a rough summary of the two articles, pls excuse me if i mis-translate, as the chinese words (cantonese slang) used in the first scan was quite difficult for me.

    First Scan

The scan illustrated about the ramen eating competition in semi finals, whoever ate the most bowls of ramen noodles will advance to the final round.

Kevin Cheng - Big gulp style
Kevin ate a whole bowl of noodles in a big gulp, we can even hear the loud noises he made while eating, he ate the most bowl of noodles

    Raymond Lam - Slurping style
His mouth is like a vacuum, slurping all the noodles in a blink, he stand a chance of winning.

Ben Yeo - Slow and steady style
He appeared calm and steady during the competition, preferring to eat slowly. Perhaps he is reserving his energy; when all other contestant begin to feel full from eating too much noodles, he will quickly surpass them. (comment: like the story of rabbit & tortoise? )

Tavia Yeung - Anxious and clumsy style
She looked very anxious, whenever her character met challenge she will go awry at last minute, from her expression she might lose again.

Shaun Chen - Super Vacuum style
He ate like a super vacuum, sucking all the ramen in the bowl, he ate a total of 17 bowls using this method

Ericia Lee - Well manner and ettique style
On the other hand, this constestant ate very slowly in a ladylike manner. Maybe somebody should remind her that she was in a competition.

    Second Scan

    Showing Support
The contestants family members showed up to show their support. Seeing their family member, the contestant will try their best to win the competition.

    Winning the round
Kevin won the ramen competition by eating 18 bowls of noodles, beating singaporean contestant Shaun who ate 17 bowls. Ben was so happy he immediately hugged his buddy Kevin for their victory.

Special costumes and styles for hosts
The two host has a variety of specially created costumes for every round of competition

Japanese look - for the ramen competition, of course the hosts will don Japanese costumes

Wild cat look - for the survival cooking competition in Zhuhai

Egyptian look - the hosts really stand out in this set of costume

Ancient look - the hosts wore chinese kungfu costume for the round in Singapore. wonder if they can really 'shoot' out swords from their sleeves?

    Lau Dan in fire crisis

What's happening? Seem like a fire broke out, wonder if anyone was injured?

Turn out that Lau Dan company was burned down, he inhaled too much smoke and has to be carried to the ambulance, his wife Lui San and daughter Tavia immediately rushed to the scene to accompany him to the hospital.

Charmaine also tagged along. The twist is that she was also Lau Dan's daughter from another marriage. Surpise suprise

    Off screen
Before they start filming, Lau Dan and Tavia couldn't stop joking around with each other.

Charmaine was curious of how the extingushing vehicle look from inside, she opened the door and peered inside.

    The Ramen Competition

In that competition, the winner, first and second runner up will advance to the final round of the competion.
The filming crew prepared over 100 bowls of noodles for that scene, cooking the ramen non-stop. Tavia said that the soup base was quite spicy, thus it was quite hard for her to eat those noodles, plus the script stated that each contestant ate more than 10 bowls each; "Everytime the filming stop I will puke out those noodles, therefore I didn't really ate that much noodles after all. Kevin has to ate the most at he has a huge appetite. We spent the whole morning filming that scene, we can't ate anything for lunch, even until dinnertime we still felt very full!"

    Hong Kong group
    Raymond - Ben - Raymond = Buddies
Tavia has a crush on Kevin

    Singapore group
Ericia - Lynn - Rambo - Shaun = Group members
Ericia has a crush on Raymond
Shaun has a crush on Ericia

Hmm... highly unlikely that Yummy Yummy will be broadcasted in Cantonese by Mediacorp. I don't like dubbed voice, they sound quite weird. Luckily I can rent the Cantonese version here in Msia

That's sad... I dun like dubbed version also. Can rent the Cantonese version here also but it makes no sense if I'm paying to watch it on DVD (in Cantonese!!!) while Mediacorp is airing it for free right?

But I really really would like to hear the Singaporean actors, esp Shaun, speaking Cantonese in their original voices... Dubbing won't do any justice to the cast, Singaporean or not.

sigh~lucky you. I disn't subscribe to Astro, therefore the only access i have to newer TVb series is through renting. Local TV station aired those series 2-3 years ago (hehe seem 'stale' to me )

    Bye bye $$$. Lol...

ASTRO has dual language feature but that is for older series in ch 34. I doubt MediaCorp have this feature, so to accomodate all Singaporean viewers, it is highly very likely the show will be shown in Mandarin instead of cantonese. But since the broadcast is simultaneous with that in HK, maybe they will show it in Cantonese with Eng/Chinese subtitles?

    Thanks Sehseh for the translation!
