I love marniers too but they are doing it with lots of new folks... so unless they open their wallet and grab the stars I don't see them winning the pennent.

But i am sure they wouldn't be at the bottom this year. They play in one of the toughest division I think... anyone of those 4 teams have a chance.

The thing is, Mariners is not as rich as Yanks, but we do have some money here. I wonder where they are spending!

And yes, I agree! HORRRIBLE PITCHING!

Well, well, just when you thought a team as retarded as the Mess couldn't get stupider, they are now offering 56 mil to Pedro. The guy has a major tear in his shoulder, can go no more than 6 innings, wants to be babied in addition to the moola, and they STILL want him! Meanwhile, Odalis Perez, who over the next 4 years will put up comparable numbers, and likely better numbers, as Pedro, can be had for less than half the price.

I was incensed that they signed Glavine and Floyd, and then Matsui, and then the dumb Benson and Zambrano trades, I guess unless the Pedro deal falls apart, this will be the icing on the cake. Yet I still can't stop being a Mess fan. I must be a masochist. LOL

Let's sing a new cheery song for the NY Mess. Yay!

Meet the Mess, meet the Mess
Head out to the park and greet the Mess
Idiots and morons out at Shea
Guaranteed to ruin your entire day
These morons are really hitting the wall
Dumping the future into a stall
East side, west side
Makes you just wanna die!

Hey, at least there's always Anna Benson!

If the Mess didn't give away Kazmir for nothing, they probably could be in the running for Hudson now. Hudson makes less than Benson btw.

How is it possible that people who supposedly know baseball know absolutely nothing?

Anyway, I doubt I'll be watching too many Mess games this year. I will have to root for my fantasy team again.

The Mariners just signed Sexson and Beltre. Making their one man bad team last year into a 3 men bad team this year. Though Ichiro-Whoever-Beltre-Sexson makes for an interesting lineup.

The Braves got Hudson for 3 prospects, thus trumping the Mets (not like the Mets really needed to be trumped). Looks like the 3 prospects are all very promising and ready to step up to full time. One of them has been a very good reliever, maybe Beane is hoping to develop him into a Closer (he's also from that P factory that is the Cubs farm system, so who knows). Another one is probably tabbed to be Jermaine Dye's replacement.

Now the A's has traded Mulder to the Cardinals for 3 prospects. Now we'll find out just exactly how good of a GM Billy Beane really is.

Mariner is going to be a good team. I think their last year their pitching staff can hold up... just last year there offense kind of sucks.

With Beltre and hopefully a healthy Sexan and Boone driving in Ichiro, I really think at least the top lineup is pretty dangerous and should improve their seasons from last.

I mean they have some good prospert too coming out of the system too so I think they will bounce back.

Just as a random update, Randy Johnson is joining the Yanks, Ryne Sandberg and Wade Boggs is going to Cooperstown, and I've just sunk $20 into MVP2004.

Anyone here thinking that Yankees made horrible spur of the moment decisions about recent signings? I fear that the glory days wouldn't be here again for years.

Regarding the HOF: Anyone here think that either Rice or Sutter will be elected in the next few years? I hope not, as I'm always for a smaller HOF.

Rice and Sutter deserves to be in it because they are the best players at their respective positions throughout the 1980s (until Bonds came along really). Rice was in the top 5 in the AL in RBI 7 times, top 10 in HR 7 times (leading the league 3 times), lead the league in total bases 4 times, batted consistently above .300 from the late 70s to the early 80s. It's not their fault that steroids and the changing tactics of games have inflated the stats of some players out of proportion in the 90s. If you ask me, it's not Sutter or Rice that should be kept out, but a whole spate of players here in the 90s, such as Palmeiro. I mean, seriously, if Don Sutton is in the Hall, so should Sutter and RIce. You don't make the Hall smaller by keeping more deserving people out.

As for the Yankees... well... RJ is one of those "make-or-break" deals. High risk, high rewards (much like Pedro actually). If he stays healthy, he can cover-up alot of other mistakes. So ya never know (though you know which way I'm hoping).

What about Dale Murphy, back to back MVP, has great seasons in the 80's Gold gloves winners... just play for a really bad team Braves during that break... Him and Roger Maris are the only back to back MVP that will never make it to the Hall.

I am glad that Sandberg made it, even though some folks don't think he deserve it... there is one reporter/writer thinks that Morris deserve more then Sandberg because of his World Series wins and his clutch performance during 7th games in W/S.

Next couple year should be a critical time for those who couldn't manage to get enough votes to get in because after the next couple of years you have a list of greats like McGwire, Ripken, etc and it will be harder for them to get in.

Some say the next few years we will see Reliver getting a shot at the hall... so Lee Smith, Jeff Mongomery, etc have a chance.

Carlos Beltran!

Well if the dummies hadn't signed Glavine and Floyd, two moves that I despised, they would have the money to sign Delgado now.

Ah well can't change the past.

Now I have Beltran on both the Mets and my fantasy team. Not sure if I should be happy, given the Mets' history with FA's. But if there was ever a can't miss signing, this is it. Good job for the Met org.

Speaking of Delgado, how stupid are the M's? They jumped early on Sexson for like 12 mil a year. They could've waited and landed Delgado, the lower risk and better hitter.

BOSTON Jan 7, 2005 — Calling it "my retirement fund," Boston first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz stashed in his safe deposit box the ball used in the final out that sealed the Red Sox's first World Series championship in 86 years. Now, his boss wants it back.

"We want it to be part of Red Sox archives or museums so it can be shared with the fans," Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino told The Boston Globe on Thursday. "We would hope he would understand the historical nature of it."

Mientkiewicz seems to understand it very well, which is exactly why he held on to it.
doug mientkiewicz, you're one greedy sob! the sox should trade his a$$ to the expos.

he said it was a joke. But some official said that the ball does belong to him not the team.... but the team does have the right to ask him for the ball... I mean what happen to the Bat that hit the last out Renteria... I think he still has the bat too.

Too bad, the overall team is still pretty weak-piss. I'm thinking, Mets will just miss out of the Wild Card this year.

If the Mets get Delgado they'd be in much better shape. I still think the Braves will win the East though. I don't know why, but 12 in a row can't be an accident.
