Seeing how Ying Zhi was about to face off with Da Tou, Zong Yueh said, "Be careful, his acute sense of hearing more than compensate for his blindness. Ying Zhi, use your zither to confuse him!"

Understanding Zong Yueh's plan, Yueyou also took out her flute, ready to join Ying Zhi's zither to add more confusion for Da Tou.

While continuing to transfer internal energy to Elder Lu, Zong Yueh also prepared himself to whistle.

As the fight unfolded, Li Kang watched from one of the high beams supporting the inn. Lan Zhu was strapped to his back, fast asleep. Many times, Li Kang wanted to jumo in and help, but he resolved that he would only do so if the conditions turned bleak. He really wanted to jump down and help Yueyou, but he did not want it to seem like he did not have faith in her ability.

Li had also noticed the other figure lurking in the shadows. Li thought about inspecting, but the figure seemed to show no malicious intent. So he decided to sit and wait to see how things would unfold.

"With Da Tou's excellent hearing, I'm surprised he hasn't spotted me yet," thought Li.

While continuing to transfer internal energy to Elder Lu, Zong Yueh also prepared himself to whistle.
“Exactly my thoughts,” Yue Ying Zhi said turning his head slightly and nodding.

"Hmm...if it's your death you're asking for, I shall surely guide you to your ancestors," shouted Da Tou.

    "Please," acknowledged Yue Ying Zhi.

With a press of a switch, Yue Ying Zhi's zither-case roared as the zither flew into mid-air followed by a loud terrifying, spine-chilling shrieking shrill from its strings…announcing its arrival into daylight…that possibly Death’s Hand has arrived. Da Tou was taken back as he felt the sounds vibrating violently in his ears.

Yue Ying Zhi leapt up and extending one hand, he catches it. Suddenly a loud chorus of strings rained from the air. Da Tou's quickly moved to his left, then to his right feeling the warmth of the chi brush by him.

With faster strokes of the strings, the shrieks cried louder; it is the lament of the innocents. Those not used to high-pitched squeeky sounds in the vicinity quickly covered their ears. Da Tou barely evaded the attacks as the chi shot up the ground before him. He could smell the aroma of fresh moist wood and dirt. Suddenly, he heard the music begin to crescendo…Yue Ying Zhi finally landed followed by a shower of orange and brown leaves. Thunder cracked violently across the skies ahead of them.

"Rain..." he thought, "This is not good."

"Miss Yang...Wang Brothers...he won't be able to get near...let's begin now!" he said turning his head to the others.

Two other internal energy generated sounds joined the fray along with that of Ying Zhi's zither, Yueyou's flute and Zong Yueh's whistle. The three sounds worked together in unison to attack and confused Da Tou. Sometimes one was high pitched like the cry of a bird, piercing the ear, while the other two were low, like rolling waves of the sea, pounding the heart, and vice versa.

Da Tou felt that the enemy's attack is coming from all around him. Assaulted by the three sounds, his ear could no longer detect the surrounding. For the first time since learning martial arts, he felt truly blind and confused. He attacked blindly left and right, yet they all hit empty air.

The sight of Da Tou going berserk, drenched by the heavy rain is truly terrifying. His face, with its empty eye sockets were full of rage. Executing such powerful yet uncontrollable strokes, he looked like a wounded animal, trying to destroy everything in his path.

Until finally, he had stepped right in front of the Wang twins.....

“We meet again!” spoke Wu Jian as he stood directly in front of Da Tou.

“ Indeed! And this time, no more games!” roared Da Tou as he began his attack with his blurring rod.

The Wang brothers looked at each other and simply nodded. It was time.

Taking up their positions; Wu Jian standing slightly to the left and Jian Yi to the right. Seeing Da Tou charging like an enraged bull, Wu Jian responded with a quick thrust to Da Tou’s left leg while Jian Yi simply slashed his sword in a circular path.

“ What the? Their moves seem so ordinary yet there is no flaw I can take advantage of at this instant! Attacking and yet defending at the same time, could Zhang San Fang have further improved his Taiji sword?” wondered Da Tou as he moved his rod to block the attack by Wu Jian.

Realizing that Da Tou was now on the defensive, Wu Jian immediately followed up his attack with yet another forward and back thrust aimed at the neck of Da Tou, almost creating a star like reflection with his sword. Jian Yi on seeing his brother advancing on the enemy responded in kind though just the direct opposite. Still banishing his sword in a large circular path, he suddenly sluggishly and crookedly thrust his sword at Da Tou’s lower abdominal area.

“ Impressive! And finally a flaw!” a smirk appeared on Da Tou’s face as he suddenly split his rod into two and with two rods began to counter the brother’s formation.

“ Oh… it seems our formation does have its flaws,” thought Jian Yi as he was forced to pull back his attack and concentrate on defense. Wu Jian too could not gain an upper hand with his attack as it was render unless by the suddenly appearance of yet another rod by Da Tou.

Refusing to give up, Wu Jian suddenly jumped up and holding his Dark Heaven’s Heart by the blade with the tip of his left hand’s fingers attacked Da Tou’s back.

“ Eh? What kind of sword art would require the user to hold the blade with his fingers?” wondered Da Tou as he simply extend his right rod in an attempt to strike Wu Jian on his chest.

However, Wu Jian merely pulled back the blade with his fingers and struck the incoming rod with the blade as he let go of the blade. The rod rattled uncontrollably in Da Tou’s right hand as he winced in pain. At the same time, Jian Yi attack using the Wudang’s “ Flight of the golden cane”. Each move of the eighty-two moves was designed to counter attack rod and spear attacks, at the expense of one’s defense. Knowing that Wu Jian could not handle the bulk of Da Tou’s attack, Jian Yi had no choice but to utilize the particular skill in the hopes of distracting Da Tou.

Letting out a loud roar, Da Tou renewed his attack on Wu Jian by gripping his rod in the middle and not at the end. Spinning the rod in his right hand, he moved towards Wu Jian with a leaped that caused Jian Yi’s counter attack to end up short.

Wu Jian on seeing the incoming attack merely charged forward to meet the attack with his unorthodox swordplay. Holding his sword in the exact previous same way, he managed to slide in the blade into Da Tou’s spinning rod and was inches away from Da Tou’s finger, just as his brother’s sword was inches away from Da Tou’s left palm.

Realizing then he had made a fatal error, Da Tou merely twist both his wrist and both rods caught both brothers’ swords in the nick of time. As all three had used considerable inner energy in the fight, all four weapons flew out of their owners’ hand and exclamations from the brothers escaped their astonished faces. They had thought that they finally had Da Tou.

Taking advantage of the situation, Da Tou charged at Jian Yi with both of his palms…
Only to meet a fist of immensely chilling Yin energy and a palm with raging hot Yang energy…

“ What the…” was all Da Tou could say before he was locked in the struggle of inner energy with the Wang twins.

“ One is chilling yet the other is so hot… their external skills and techniques may not be on par with mine yet their inner is altogether a different matter. This is not good.” Thought Da Tou as sweat began to gather on his forehead and forearms.

As the seconds passed, all three were concentrating fully on the battle yet the Wang brothers seemed at ease with the present situation. Da Tou however was feeling the intense pressure of handling two extremely opposite inner power at once. His rate of perspiration increased and began to flow downwards to his body. Those beads of perspiration that flowed down into his left vaporized a split second later while those on his right were frozen solid and dropped to the ground as beads of ice. The situation was not in Da Tou’s favor, yet he still held on.

Finally Da Tou could not withstand the Yin Yang energy onslaught along with Ying Zhi’s zither music. He fell backward and coughed up blood. Quickly Jian Yi and Wu Jian each executed a palm strike to finish him off.

Suddenly, Elder Lu whose life had been prolonged by Zong Yueh’s Jiu Yang energy infusion leaped up and protected Da Tou’s body with his own. Surprised, the Wang twins tried to retract their strike. But it was too late too pull back their energy completely. With a quarter of energy left, both palm strikes hit Elder Lu’s back.

“No!” Zong Yueh, Yueyou and the Wang twins shouted simultaneously in surprise.

Da Tou sat up, cradling the weak body of Elder Lu and asked, “Why? Why did you save me, after I tried to kill you?”

“Feng er, I am sorry for not being able to protect you when you were young. All these years when we were separated, I have always been thinking of you. Do you believe me now?” Elder Lu asked.

“Yes. Father, I believe you. Please don’t die.” Da Tou said frantically.

“Now I can die in peace.” Said Elder Lu weakly. He then closed his eyes and breathes his last in the lap of Da Tou.

“Nooooo!” Da Tou cried out. He held his father’s lifeless body tightly.

Seeing this father and son tragic scene, no one made a move towards Da Tou.

Suddenly he stood up, carrying Elder Lu’s body and started to laugh unceasingly.

“Has he gone mad?” Wu Jian asked.

“All of you think you are so clever for defeating me and freeing Wu Jie. But you have fallen to Master Shen Mo’s plan. While everyone is so preoccupied with the attack on Shaolin and the kidnapping of Wu Jie, he had completed his preparation and is only one step away from becoming the emperor. It’s too late now. Whatever you do, it will be too late to stop him!” Said Da Tou to all the enemies around him.

Quickly Da Tou turned around and jumped away from the Solitary Inn area using his lightness skill. Everyone was amazed that despite his injuries, he was still able to move that quickly. His internal energy is truly profound. As he was about to disappear from sight, everyone can hear Da Tou saying, “Don’t worry father, Feng er will take revenge for you.”

The young heroes were stunned by these unexpected turn of events and for a moment were at a loss of what to do.

“Damn.” Zong Yueh finally said, “He is right about Shen Mo, let’s go back to Wudang quickly and warn priest Yan about Shen Mo’s impending attack. He had organized his troops much quicker than we all anticipated.”

Everyone agreed. They ran as fast as possible towards Wudang.

As they were running, the same question kept creeping up in everyone’s mind. “What did Da Tou mean by taking revenge for his father? Did he mean to take revenge towards the Wang twins who accidentally delivered the final blow to Elder Lu; or was he planning to take revenge against Shen Mo, who orchestrated the whole deception in Da Tou’s family?

*I guess chronologically, this post should be before the last one.*

Seeing that the fight was going in the favor of vhis allies, Li decided that he did not need to make his presence known. With that, he made a hasty exit.

THE FORBIDDEN CITY, OPERATION FALLING FORTRESS (MINUS 5)

Commanding Gereral (Full General) Wei gave command of the Imperial Right Division to Marching General (Lieutenant General) Lian and ordered him to march directly to Shenyang to defend against any hostile forces which might come from across the (present-day) Korean plains.

General Wei himself led his 40,000-strong Imperial Left Division to Yingkou to defend any naval landings by the Japanese invaders. According to his spies, the Japanese were most likely to land at Yingkou. Unfortunately for him, his spies were planted by Shen Mo himself...

Brigadier Zhi was promptly promoted to Supporting Marshal (Major General) and he led his 20,000 infantry and calvary to Shanhai Pass... Little did he know his troops was about to play a crucial role in the upcoming battle.

THE FORBIDDEN CITY, OPERATION FALLING FORTRESS (MINUS 3)

Shen Mo watched as the D&D Army troops began their march. Within 3 days the entire division of D&D fighters should reach the Forbidden City itself. With his ADC Yao Mo appointed as the Commander-General, he could concentrate on any goons the FATO fighters would send to face him.

He was calm as usual as he received news from his spies that the worthless Emperor had fell for his "Japanese Invasion" ploy and had sent almost the whole entire Imperial 6th Army to the supposed frontline. What was left were only the Imperial Guards - the best soldiers of the Imperial Army.

Another group of spies now reported that the Imperial 6th Army Left Division and Right Division were almost reaching their destinations while the Support Division had already reached Shanhai Pass.

Selecting 4 out of his 10 best generals as well as Da Tou, Shen Mo instructed them to lead the D&D Ground Division to flank and smite the Support Division. The D&D Attacking Corps was then ordered to proceed to the Forbidden City with Xie Junh Liang and the other 6 generals to await the command to engage.

The latest intelligence came in and he noted that although the FATO FFF fighters were already ready, Zhang San Feng would not take part in this battle. They were currently midway between Wudang and Shaolin and would take 5-7 days to reach the respective destinations...

THE FORBIDDEN CITY, OPERATION FALLING FORTRESS (MINUS 24 HOURS)

In 24 hours, all hell would break loose on the Forbidden City as well as Shanhai Pass. General Wei and General Lian had already reached their fortresses but little did they know that their patient and vigilant wait would be in vain. Despite having the military power, they could not help decide the fate of the Central Plains.

The entire D&D Army had arrived both outside the Forbidden City as well as Shanhai Pass. All the D&D Ground Corps had to do was prevent Marshal Zhi's troops in Shanhai Pass from reaching the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City itself was surrounded from some distance away, but none of the Imperial Guards even noticed them.

Shen Mo looked grimly at the Forbidden City's South Gate. In 24 hours, it would begin here.

“ So this is it… the final battle. But regardless of what, I’m going to get some sleep. Brother, wake me up when you guys have finished debating and deciding on the smaller details eh?” with that, Wu Jian walked away from this brother and Li Xiao Sheng towards the living quarters of Wudang Sect.

“ He… does not really changed does he?” spoke Xiao Sheng as she watched Wu Jian walked away still yawning and seemly as if it was only another boring day in the world.

Laughing; Jian Yi merely slipped he hand into Xiao Sheng’s hand and faced her.
“ Yes he is like that, yet he truly has changed. Perhaps you do not agree with his ways but he is brother after all.” Spoke Jian Yi as both Beixing and Juai Sangzheng approached them.

“ Greetings brother Wang and sister Li! Are you all prepared for the journey?” asked Beixing as Juai Sangzheng spoke in low tones with Xiao Sheng who appeared amused.

“ Why yes we are, although I do not like meeting and dueling with Da Tou again.” With that Jian Yi gave a long sigh. He and his brother were responsible for the death of Da Tou’s father and hence the feeling of dreadfulness was still present.

“ Of cos, if it was me I would also feel that way. But it would seem that that might be a small chance that he would be going after Shen Mo instead.” Replied Beixing as he glanced at Juai Sangzheng and Xiao Sheng.

Xiao Sheng looked really amused and was trying her best not to laugh while Sangzheng seemed troubled and kept pointing to a group of Er-Mei female disciples who were eyeing him as if he was a piece of juicy meat.

“ If brother was here, he would know what to do about it!” thought Jian Yi as he too smiled.

“ Whatever the outcome, I hope Shi Mulang will there also, I have much to settle with him…” spoke Beixing.

“ indeed! All of us here must end this fight soon…” thought Jian Yi as he turned and looked at Li Xiao Sheng who was now smiling openly.

“ For her and everyone else, we must win….”a

    Default THE GRAND FINALE BATTLE

    OPERATION FALLING FORTRESS

The Sun had just risen. It was a cold and cloudy day. The battle that would determine the fate of the land had begun. 2,000 footmen from the D&D Army's Vanguard marched forward, slowly and steadily to the Forbidden City's South Gate.

Captain Li, who was on duty, spotted the large body of black-dressed men and immediately dispatched a message, which was relayed to Emperor Jianwen (Zhu YunWen, 1377 - 1402).

Emperor Jianwen immediately ordered Brigadier Mu to lead the entire Imperial Guards unit of 5,000 to defend the Ming capital. Brigadier Mu mounted his horse and reached the south gate together with 3,000 troops.

The body of black-clad men stopped just out of range of the Imperial Guards archers. Brigadier Mu looked at them gravely. This was a bolt from the blue.

Brigadier Mu shouted, "Listen up! If you move a step closer, you will be killed without further warning!"

The D&D Vanguard remained motionless. Brigadier Mu was about to open the gate and charge out when he heard several thunderous booms in the distance, like a distant storm approaching.

He hesitated for a moment, which was all it needed.

    OPERATION FALLING FORTRESS

The shower of cannon shells rained down furiously and slammed into the wall of the South Gate, causing massive explosions which ripped through the wall. Parts of the wall started collasping on impact of the latest arsenal from the D&D Army.

It was a tactic which worked everytime for the D&D Army, and it was the ancient version of the Blitzkrieg. The Imperial Guards at the South Gate were thrown into great disarray and chaos.

The men frantically tried to put out the fires while Brigadier Mu shouted orders through the thick smoke and roaring rumbles. Hundreds of bodies were strewn about as the Imperial Guards tried to regroup themselves for a counteroffensive.

The artillery shells continued to slam down relentlessly and mercilessly onto the wall, causing massive damage. The Imperial Guards were nearly powerless against such an onslaught, not to mention that they were caught offguard.

Captain Li and his company dashed out of the city to battle the invaders but the D&D Vanguard released a volley of arrows which slapped the oncoming troops in sheets. Captain Li was hit by 2 arrows but he persisted on, dropping from his horse just feet away from the enemy archers.

He raised his sword and yelled angrily, but his yell changed to a yell of pain as more arrows pierced his body. A warrior leapt out from the archers and slashed Captain Li, leaving his head rolling on the ground open-eyed.

The Imperial Guards pulled back from the South Gate its remnant forces retreated towards the Imperial Palace. Brigadier Mu hastily rolled out the Imperial Guards' own cannons.

Suddenly, a messenger came shouting, "General! The North Gate is being attacked!"

    OPERATION FALLING FORTRESS

Brigadier Mu shouted for 3,000 men to rush to the North Gate and ordered his assistant to light the smoke sigal to request for reinforcements from Shanhai Pass.

The Imperial Guards dragged the cannons up the battered South Gate Wall under heavy enemy fire and tried their best to retaliate. The cannons blazed in the midst of the thick smoke, hitting several enemy positions.

    ...

The D&D Attacking Corps at the North Gate used heavily fortified siege towers to attack the North Gate. The towers surged furiously forward, ramming into the North Gate wall. The wall shuddered on impact.

The soldiers lost their footing as the black-clad men poured out from the towers right onto the North Gate wall and slashed viciously at the hapless defenders. The Imperial Guards' casulty rate climbed rapidly.

Many guards tried their best to beat off the invaders and inflicted a substantial amount of casulties, many of which lay at the foot of the North Gate wall. However the D&D men kept coming and the waves of troops overpowered the North Gate guards with their sheer numbers.

The brave guards fought back hard but their efforts were in vain as the defences at the top of the wall were quickly overrun despite the large number of D&D attackers who hit the foot of the wall some 30 yards below.

Captain Zhong, a cowardly officer, hid behind the pillar as his 2 attendants shielded him. The black-clad men stabbed at them insanely with their long spears, and it was not long before they were stabbed fatally, their blood splashing on the ground and pillar around them.

Captain Zhong pleaded pitifully for his life but the enemy sergeant smashed his mace into his head, crushing the skull. It was a grisly sight, but the battle-hardened sergeant did not bat an eyelid.

A lowly soldier who tried to run away had his head cleaved in from the top, spliting his brain into half. Another warrior who managed to throw several black-clad men off the wall to their deaths was gorged right in the eyes with a pitchfork. His eyeballs popped out and became stuck on the pitchfork, dripping with blood.

    OPERATION FALLING FORTRESS

Brigadier Mu saw that the North and South Gates had fallen to the enemy and immediately withdrew all troops from all gates and assembled every single soldier of the Imperial Guards in the Imperial Palace itself.

They had by then abandoned their cannons as they were useless at such close ranges and shot whatever arrows they had left at the enemy. Many soldiers were facing imminent death and were panic-stricken, shooting their arrows without aiming.

The black-clad men were now pouring in from the North and South, hemming them in from both sides. Emperor Jianwen gathered his concubines and personal guards and huddled with them in his safe room.

Brigadier Mu, who was wounded in the shoulder, ordered the soldiers to take a last ditch stand. The men rolled out crates of their latest weapons - bolt-action musket rifles.

The archers fired the last of their arrows as the riflemen loaded their guns. The rifles cracked and the front runners of the D&D attackers dropped. The rifles cracked again and another row of black-clad men fell, but the loading time delayed them too much and the black-clad men were nearly reaching them.

Brigadier Mu drew his sword and roared. Any enemy soldier that strayed near him was immediately cut down in his path. The rifles cracked again and more of the invaders lay strewn around the Imperial Palace.

The casulty rates on both sides were now escalating, with 5,000 Imperial Guards and 2,000 D&D Vanguard and Attacking Corps troops dead. Brigadier Mu was confident of holding the enemy back until help from Shanhai Pass arrived. Little did he know what was going on over there.

    OPERATION FALLING FORTRESS

Brigadier Mu saw that they were locked in a stalemate, but a long drawn out battle would put them at a severe disadvantage. The battleground was littered with bodies from the opposing sides, stretching from outside the South Gate all the way up to the wall of the North Gate.

The men from both sides continued dropping like sacks of potatoes, but the D&D Attacking Corps seemed to come in neverending streams of black-clothed soldiers. The situation was evidently grim and dire for the Imperial Guards.

Suddenly, the ground trembled towards the East Gate and a huge chunk of earth crumbled and collasped inwards, forming a large hole. Many black-clad men sprang out from the hole and charged right into the defender's lines!

The hole appeared only 30 feet away and took the Imperial Guards completely off guard and the stunned guards hit the ground without resistance. It was an extremely bad turn of events for the defenders and they were being slayed like ants.

Brigadier Mu immediately unsheathed his sword and jumped at the invaders, slashing like a wild tiger. This sparked the guards' bravery and they joined him in hacking and chopping the invaders.

They were forced into fighting for their lives and their fighting spirit exploded, and they even managed to push the invaders back slightly.

Meanwhile, the West Gate was opened by some D&D soldiers and a few people walked in unnoticed.

One of which was ADC General Yao Mo, commander of the Attacking Corps. Another was an ordinary-looking man who was carrying a majestic-looking sword fit for an emperor. The last of that small group was a mysterious, agile man who bore some resemblance to the ordinary-looking man.

No one paid any attention to these 3 people slowly proceeding towards the Imperial Palace.

    SHANHAI PASS

Marshal Zhi saw the smoke signal. He immediately realised that it was a desperate call for help. He split up the troops in the pass into 2 groups of 10,000 men each and placed Deputy Marshal Lu in command of the first group.

He said grimly, "Defend the city well. You must not let it fall!" Marshal Lu said, "Yes!" Marshal Zhi then grabbed his long spear and rode out of the city with his group of 10,000 soldiers.

They did not bring any supplies and rushed directly towards the Forbidden City at full speed. They had hardly gone 5 miles from the pass when they were intercepted by the D&D Ground Division jointly commanded by Marshal Da Tou and General Di Mo.

Just as they rode through a valley, scores of black-clad men on each side sprang up and threw boulders and logs down onto the advancing army. The soldiers were shocked and many stood rooted to the ground until they were crushed by the incoming debris.

The black-clad archers launched a shower of arrows which seemed to make the sky go grey. The arrows pierced through the men like paper and covered the ground like long grass.

Marshal Zhi commanded half the army to charge up the sides and the other half to break through. The forward position was about to surge through the opening ahead when hundreds of black-clad troops appeared ahead.

The black-clad troops fired their muskets at the charging troops, tossing them down swiftly. The soldiers who actually managed to reach their lines were quickly cut down with their bayonets.

Marshal Zhi hastily ordered a withdrawal back into the pass. The D&D troops pursued them hotly right up to the walls of the pass. The gates closed and the defenders of the pass fired their arrows to hold the pursuers off.

The D&D Ground Division instantly laid siege and shot at the defenders with their muskets. The skirmish continued throughout the day and lasted late into the night, keeping the defenders from sleeping.
