Default Ebook Versions of Wuxia - NEW

    Hi,
I mentioned before I was thinking of hosting some ebook (epub, mobi) versions of the translations
After some discussions with Foxs, he has kindly given me some of his original MS Word docs of "The Deer and the Cauldron", to convert which I have posted here.

    http://wuxiatranslations.wikispaces.com/

NEW: I have just uploaded the ebook versions of Condor Trilogy (already available in PDF, but prefer other formats for my reader)

If anyone else has any volumes by any author they wish me to convert to ebook, send me a PM to arrange sending the doc and I should be able to turn it around fairly quickly, and post/share.

Won't make any modifications beyond minor formatting where necessary.

I should be able to handle originals in text, html, and Word versions. No PDF, because they are horrible to convert.

EDIT: Have posted all 5 books in mobi and epub in zip files.
Made minor table of contents changes to vols 3 and 4 on April 27th 2013.

How many books are there for The Deer and The Cauldron?

    @jack_ingoldsby

Just some additions you might wish to add to your site.

"Swordswoman Riding West on White Horse" is actually COMPLETED.

It is named INCORRECTLY in the Wikipedia site.

The correct name is "White Horse Neighing in the West Wind".
白马啸西风 - Bái Mǎ Xiào Xī Fēng

You should be able to find ALL its pieces around here.

Also most of "The Book and the Sword" is translated in summarized form by Graham Earnshaw at:

Hi, I've created the epub and mobi versions of the Earnshaw translations...
It's lot easier to create the ebooks from a file or at worst an unabridged thread... assembling from a lot of different places makes it more likely I will miss something or include something by accident.

Actually, if I could get the MS Word versions of Condor Trilogy, I think that would be worthwhile next conversion

    Hi jack_ingoldsby,

Many translated texts on tablets such as the iPad are in "parallel" text format--Chinese-English, in this case. Is it possible for you to format the "paragraphs" in left-right column format, in which we can see the original text as well? Newer Epub and iBook has this advanced v3 feature.

Also, are you able to convert the footnotes into pop-up footnotes rather than endnotes....?

Sorry, the conversion tool I am using doesn't support epub3....

If you look around you'll notice "White Horse Neighing in the West Wind" has two overlapping translations, I believe....
    1. 69% by junzi, 31% by Goobernaculum
    2. 96% by junzi, 4% by Goobernaculum

Not sure which version is "better"... perhaps someone else can answer that question...

The Condor Trilogy used to be available as a PDF for each of the 12 books (10 Chapters each). you would need an additional good tool to to convert them to MS Word doc/docx.

OK, think I have found a tool... I created my own versions before by a fairly inefficient method, but I don't think they are good enough to share (some of the translator credits are missing). I'll look into it

Input on which version more suitable is welcomed.

Thanks, will use the pdfs...had a look at the epubs.... as they have embedded page numbers, book titles etc, I'll see if I can create some versions

    Would like to have
    1) Table of Contents
    2) Free flow text (better for changing font size)
    3) Endnotes from the translator

No, I am planning to create those new versions of ROCH in epub myself. Sorry for confusion.I'd like to do SPW, but unlike ROCH, I don't believe there are are existing ebooks in any format out there... with ROCH it is just converting an existing PDF that is already available on the web to a different format. To do SPW, I'd have to copy from a web page into a doc... I'd feel better getting the translator's permission first. I've emailed Lanny who did the first half of SPW, no response yet.

No, not just Jin Yong... but that's all the books I've collated I've so far... sorry...
The other pages are just placeholders until get material and the 'completed' was a holdover from a template table. Cleaned it up.
