With the Qwai Fa Bo Deen, however, apparently all you need to do is look at the damn thing and it gets you hooked. That is a kind of "hocus pocus," because it's an object (a book) that by our understanding, shouldn' t have the power to neutralize the free will of any individual who comes across it, but somehow, in Jin Yong's fictional universe, does.
Sounds like power as embodied by the One Ring in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Everyone has a use for it, but it's those who have greatest need for it who desire it most, and once one has had a taste of it, one hankers after it for the rest of one's life. Except that Tolkien fleshed it out better - one can argue about his literary merits, but one can't deny he was very, very good at exploring his ideas, and very, very thorough.

It does offer a lot of power improvement. I mean Ren Woxing didn't even imagine Dongfang would become so powerful. And just look at how much Lin Pingzhi gained in a short time.

If a Great were really desperate to gain power, he might go for Kuihua Baodian. I can see Ouyang Feng doing that.

Lin Pingzhi is retarded. He was about to marry a hottie that he ever dream of but decide to cut off his manhood just for revenge...

Yeah, what a loser. He actually said that he considered having sex first on their wedding night but he just couldn't wait.

A guy who would rather have power than sex? What a loser!

    ...hey, wait a second...

Maybe Yue Lingshan magnet is even stronger than Sunflower manual, once touched, LPZ afraid he could never stop having sex! So he rather cut it off first or else risk not revenging his parents death forever. Anyway, still a loser

I find it believable that a book can be so addictive when the knowledge within is very powerful. In the end Zhou Botong broke his word to Wang Chongyang and practiced 9 Yin anyway. Someone like Zhou obviously prefered martial arts over women, as proven by his treatment of Ying Gu, I'm sure he will give in and study the Sunflower Manual if given the chance.

Back in 1943, if one of the axis power leaders could cut off their balls to look at a complete guide on how to make a nuke, I'm certain they would. Hitler did not have any children, wives or mistresses anyway, so his interests lies elsewhere. I'm not dissing his virility, it's rare that a leader isn't a playboy who cheats on his wife, so I think he is honorable in that respect.

I doubt Lin Pingzhi ever loved Yue Lingshan, he just used her.

Even after he had his revenge, told her everything and was blinded, she still cared for him, while he placed his survival above hers and killed her to show the Songshan group that he wasn't in cahoots with Yue Buqun. Lin Pingzhi loved his parents more.

Perhaps the thought of consuming his relationship was more out of filial duty, as a son is required to continue the family line, rather than lust.

But it's always better to have it both ways, ie to found a family and have revenge later.Even if he did not love YLS, he should have memorized the manual, wait until she is pregnant before practicing. Mu Gao Feng and Yu Canghai were not on the brink of death anyway.

Still, how long should he wait? What if the first child is a daughter, should he keep trying until he gets a son? Back in those days even the child of emperors could die in infancy, so even if he waited a few years to get a son, the kid might die before adulthood.

It's Adolph freakin' Hitler. Diss away. I don't think anybody will hold it against you (except some Neo Nazi groups, maybe).

There *was* Eva Braun at the very end of Hitler's days.

I don't know. It sounded like he wanted to hit it at least once but the hunger for power just consumed him. Maybe things would have turned out differently if they had moved up the wedding date? Or maybe they should have just ignored traditions and do it before the marriag.

So that's why one of them ended up in the Albert Hall.

No single martial art dominated wulin like KHBD did, with 1 month's training, noobs became world beaters, how can you resist that?

Yue Buqun and the Greats are all near their 60s or 70s so I don't see anything wrong if they practice KHBD as at this age their little brothers are almost useless anyway.

the greats won't gain much but maybe it wouldn't matter if ZWJ praticed QFBD cos he doesn't have any balls anyway. BTW GJ and YG are both in their prime and not in their 70s

Sexual desire, maybe, but not sexual ability, or else Viagra would've not become so famous.

is BMSG more poewrful than XXDF???? i always thought it was the opposite. because the person who invented XXDF derived it from BMSG, obviously he needs to have access to BMSG manual or know how to use BMSG in order to do that, if BMSG is actually more pwoerful, why not just learn BMSG? why go through the trouble of creating an inferior art? It would make sense that the derivation of BMSG is an improvement of it, as for the side effects its probably a flaw resulting from increased power in other aspects.

Beiming is definitely better than Xixing. No question about that.
