I thought about starting this thread in the movie section, but I don't think anyone in there are particularly wuxia buffs like us over here. So, I decided to put this start the thread in Wuxia Fiction section.

Basically, let's try to come up with a list of all Wuxia movies based on Wuxia novels ONLY.

I believe Ken has this list created a long time ago in the old Wuxia discussion forum, do you still have the link for that ?

There's also an earlier version of the Feihu Wai Zhuan made in the late 70's or early 80's. Loved that one.

I wished they'd release The Sword of Many Loves in the USA. I really liked that version.

There was also a version of HSDS back in the early 80's. They split it into 2 parts. They did the same with the Jet Li version except the 1980's one actually had 2 parts whereas they only made part 1 of the Jet Li version.

There's also an old movie about Xie Xiaofeng - Third Master's sword, with him fighting Yan 13 at the end and beating him in a really well-written twist at the end. You think Yan won, but then suddenly you see what really happened (but you missed it because it was too fast) and Xie is the winner. Can't remember any of the actors at all.

A question for all Shaw brothers fans out there, though - I'm looking for a very old movie which I saw when I was a kid of about 8 or 10. It was about this vampire Wu Shinhan and how he kills this princess of a martial arts palace, and the hero teams up with the queen and hunts him down. In the course of action they meet a gang of warriors (which include a young monk carrying a buddha behind his back, and old monk, an old man in the likeness of the Bride's wuxia teacher in Kill Bill 2) all of whom get killed apart from the hero and the queen. Any ideas? =)

Does 'Saviour of the Soul (1991)' count? It's chinese title is '91 Shen Diao Xia Nu'.

I'm not sure whether 'The Three Swordsmen' starring Andy Lau and Brigitte Lin was based on a Wuxia novel or not, anyone ?

'Savior of the Soul' should be considered since it actually follows ROCH storyline, the only difference is the setting is during our Modern day. It actually has two parts : Savior of the Soul 1 & 2

Thanks for that huge list, some of the movies in your list are actually listed on my original list already. The biggest headache is perhaps some of these movies have so many different titles.

For example 'Kung Fu Cult Master' 1993 starring Jet Li based on Heaven Sword Dragon Sabre aka Yi Tian Tu Long Ji' is also called 'The Evil Cult,' 'Kungfu Master,' and 'The Lord of the Wu Dang' in its US video release.
