Jimmy Lin is filming a new modern series in Taiwan now. It will air in March, 2007. We have been talking about it in Jimmy's forum. I am just moving some of the newspaper articles here. Jimmy will play a 26 yr old playboy car racer in the series. he will do his own stunts and provide all the cars for filming. The female lead is Korean.

Can you believe it? Since Jimmy entered the entertainment industry he has not
yet starred in a modern series (except movies). He always did ancient or early
1900's series. In order to try something new, he turned down serveral Mainland
ancient series like Liao Zhai 2 and accepted San Lap's idol series "Fang Yang De
Xing Xing". If his price is RMB90,000 per episode, then he is losing over 10M.

Yesterday, "Fang Yang De Xing Xing"'s male and female leads, Jimmy Lin and
Korean actress Liu Hu Na got their first makeover. In the dressing room, the
director, makeup artist, and producer Chen Yu San surrounded Jimmy and argued
about how to "change" him into someone that the audience has never seen
before. Chen Yu San said, "Jimmy always appears as sunny and cute. This
time, we want to show his sexiness and maturity."

"Fang Yang De Xing Xing" is heavy with Korean influence. Its female lead is a
young Korean. The director wants Jimmy's hairstyle to copy that of another
Korean actor. Jimmy has never starred in an idol series. He has bought a pile of
Korean series in order to study "how modern people fall in love".

Liu is a new actress with Korean Ei21 agency. She has starred in "Sixth Exit" in
Taiwan and was the female lead in Jay Chow's MV. Jimmy thinks that Liu looks
like Liu Yi Fei. Her look and feel are outstanding. Liu has stayed in Taiwan for a
while and understands a little Chinese. Together with body language they have
no problem communicating. Jimmy has been spending a lot of time in Mainland.
With his return to Taiwan, he is putting a lot of his energy and personal resources
into the series. He will play the son of a jewel merchant, who doesn't like to work
but only likes racing. After he gets married he becomes a ruthless businessman.
Jimmy is a racer himself. His racing team is ready to help in the big racing scenes
in the series. Jimmy boasts that whatever type of race car they need he can get
one.

Chen Yu San said she would ask Jimmy to unbotton his shirt to look sexy and
mature. Jimmy is willing to co-operate. He said he has no problem with how
many buttons. Everyone is worried that Jimmy has stayed in Mainland China for
too long and is out-of-touch with idol series. But Jimmy is confident. He
said "Modern series is easier than ancient series. There should be no problem."
He feels comfortable working with a Taiwanese procuction team. He said with
relief, "Finally I don't have to work in remote sites in China."

"Fang Yang De Xing Xing" will start filming at the end of November. Jimmy will go
to China for a rally race next Tuesday. Then he will come back for filming. Jimmy
said that he will stay in Taiwan for a while. His family is most happy because he
can go home every night.

William Lap will play Jimmy's older brother, the good son. He will guest star and only appear in 5 episodes. He is 30 but will play Jimmy's older brother. Jimmy is 32.

Jimmy will play the younger rebellious son who loves racing. He will get married and become a ruthless businessman. Has Jimmy played any rebellious role before? Really looking forward to see his rebellious and sexy look.

Jimmy Lin and Liu He Na are the male and female leads of San Lap's new idol series
"Fang Yang De Xing Xing". This is Jimmy's first idol series in his 15 years in the industry.
He won't have to wear a wig, but he has to worry about whether to dye his hair and pierce
his ears. This will also be his first series with love-making scenes.

Jimmy said that he had meetings with the producer Chen Yu San for several weeks about whether
he should pierce his ears. They already decided on it and even found a store to do it.
However, Father Lin was very concerned. He even went to see a fortune teller and was told that
ear-piercing is bad for Jimmy's future. Jimmy followed his father's advise and changed to
magnetic earrings. His ears would turn red after wearing them for a scene. He laughed, "My father
really believes in this. When I first started out, the red t-shirt was the fortune teller's
idea."

Jimmy turned down Liao Zhai 2 and another ancient series to be in Fang Yang De Xing Xing. At
his price of RMB90,000 per episode he is losing over RMB10M. But Jimmy doesn't mind because the
character is a super car racer. That's what's attractive to him. He will also have a lot of
emotional scenes. He showed off some car-overturning skills during screen testing. The producer was
impressed. Jimmy wondered what is so great about filming car overturning. He has 2
similar incidents this year.

This is his first working relationship with the Korean actress Liu He Na. The most difficult part
is that he has no idea what she is saying. He doesn't know when she actually stops talking.
They came out with the idea that the interrupter will act too so he will know when to pick up.

Jimmy and Liu He Na will have a love-making scene. It is sexy but not over-the-top.
Chen Yu San said, "San Lap's policy is no loving-making scenes in its idol series. I was
warned by my manager. But I want to turn Jimmy into a mature 26 yr old playboy. The type who
will go to bed with a woman after 3 dates. Without love-making scenes it is not too realistic
for a mature man."

Last Saturday (Dec 19, 2006), the production tested filming in front of San Lap's building. The team closed the road and created traffic choas. Although there was romantic background music but outside of the camera there were waves of honking. Jimmy Lin's bright smile became embarassing.

They filmed the actress crossing the road. The production team ignored the traffic singals and stopped the cars. Then Jimmy and the actress met in the middle of the road. Jimmy picked her up and turned her around. Maybe they couldn't stand the honking, both actors became very tight. Their facial expressions froze and acted cautiously. They were afraid of being hit by the cars. Then the production found a traffic cop to direct traffic. Jimmy and the actress embraced 3 times before it was done.



San Lap marketing manager said, "The day they tested filming was okay. They didn't created choas. The male and female leads of Fang Yang De Xing Xing are Jummy Lin and Liu He Na. The production is still in the middle of preparation. Filming will start at the end of Dec.

I don't think this is the racing series that he said he was going to make with Jackie Chan. (I read that somewhere.) This is just another idol series where the main character is a rich guy who happens to like racing against the wishes of his father. Does sound a lot like Jimmy's life though.

Well from the sound of the storyline, I think it would be a great idol serial and that it would have a big hit. I would definitely watch it.

Tidbits on Fang Yang De Xing Xing:

Liu He Na's character is Cinderella. She grows up poor and has to lie and cheat her way out of situations until she meets this rich guy, Jimmy. His father of course doesn't want his son to get involved with this woman from the wrong side of the tracks and tries to break them up. The rebellious son has a confrontation with the father and runs away from home. He goes to the countryside and become a mechanics to support himself.

Yeah, only a guest role in Secretly in Love with You. So it should be interesting to see Jimmy take on the lead role in a modern series. Especially when his character is into racing just like Jimmy is. I wonder how realistic-looking those racing scenes will be. Probably pretty realistic.
