HKTV dramas compete with TVB

By spcnet.tv on November 26th, 2014 | Uncategorized

The Election

We’ve added a new section for HKTV Dramas – the newest Hong Kong television station that has scoped out a lot of former TVB artistes. It’s great to have to more competition as TVB was pretty much monopolizing the TV series scene in Hong Kong since ATV productions usually can’t compete in ratings. HKTV’s dramas appear to look more gritty (versus TVB’s bright and colorful filming), stylistically more like movies, and deals with darker themes.

HKTV’s current dramas are “The Election” and “The Borderline”. “The Election” in particular resonates with Hong Kong’s youth of today as it is highly relevant to the protests going on right now in Hong Kong.

My Love From Another Star Causes Lipstick Shortage [EDITED]

By spcnet.tv on April 30th, 2014 | Korean Dramas, Korean Entertainment

My Love From Another Star

Korean drama “My Love From Another Star” spawned a shortage in Yves Saint Laurent’s (YSL) Rouge Pur Couture No. 52 Rosy Coral color lipstick when female fans from all over the world clamored to get the same shade that Jeon Ji Hyun wore in the drama.

It is in such demand that right now you can buy the coveted item on sites like ebay.com for prices as high as $150. This lipstick typically costs $35 retail.

EDIT: It has been noted that Jeon Ji Hyun did NOT actually wear the YSL brand in the drama, and that it was mistakenly reported to be YSL, causing this confusion of worldwide frenzy for the lipstick. So does that still make you want the YSL lipstick?

It was reported that TVB actress Fala Chen will not renew her contract with the company, stating that she will be taking an acting class in New York instead.

According to Popular Asians, with her contract with TVB deemed to expire in May, rumour has it that TVB has offered her an 8-digit sum. However, the actress has determined not to renew her contract.

About her decision to take acting class, Fala revealed, “I hope to gain a new perspective in the acting field. In recent years, I discussed acting with co-workers and read many books. However, reading and actually filming are very different.”

“I’ve always wanted to leave the film set and watch different performance platforms to improve myself. I’ve mentioned this to the company before. Director Bryan Singer could not wait to express his excitement for the latest cast of “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” as he recently announced that Chinese actress Fan Bingbing will be joining the sequel of the Marvel superhero film prequel, “X-Men: First Class” according to MTV UK.

After making appearance in this year’s summer superhero blockbuster “Iron Man 3″, the Qingdao-born actress got herself another shot in Hollywood by playing teleporting mutant Blink in the film alongside the original cast of “X-Men” (2000) which includes Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, and the stars in “X-Men: First Class” (2011) such as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence.

Furthermore, Daniel Cudmore will reprise his role as Colossus and “Twilight” star Booboo Stewart has been recruited to play a yet-to-be-announced character in Singer’s directorial effort.

Set in the 1970s, “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” is set to start production on 18 July 2013.
