Tony Leung recuperates from injuries

Tony Leung

Tony Leung, who had fractured his left arm during the filming for a new movie “Yi Dai Zong Shi”, is mostly healed after 2 months of rehabilitation although he didn’t rest much and insisted on exercising for 3 hours a day during this time. Recently, he restarted his martial arts training and the Wing Chun master as well as action guide, Wong Shun Lung, believes that he is ready for filming as soon as Director Wong Kar-Wei wants to start. Therefore, there are hopes that the filming will resume in one or two months.

Although Tony Leung describes these two months of resting as a long vacation, his work ethics didn’t allow him to rest. Despite the doctor’s instructions for him to avoid strenuous exercise and to rest for at least three months for a full recovery, he insisted upon two hours of single-hand training and one to two hours of jogging every day in order to keep his body in shape. He did remember to protect his injury from being affected by tying his arm to stabilize it. He has started to practice martial arts again as his injury has mostly healed with other fellow martial arts students. It can be seen that he hasn’t really fallen behind and is still rhythmic and flexible in his movements. He does admit that there’s still some psychological barriers to his restarting of martial arts and now he uses an arm-protector during his trainings to prevent further injuries.

Rain’s Ninja Assassin trailer…and then in LEGO

Korean star Rain (Bi) trained hard for his first starring role in a Hollywood film, Ninja Assassin. The trailer shows some very difficult stunts and action scenes so it looks like Rain put in a lot of effort, especially that upside-down push-up.

Watching it again in LEGO version makes me want to watch it though :)

Three Kingdoms 2010 Trailer

The highly anticipated remake of Three Kingdoms is due out in 2010. The 1994 series by Mainland China “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” was wonderful in how faithful it was to the original source material and some of the key characters were casted superbly - especially Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhuge Liang, and Cao Cao. However, it suffered from cast replacements midway in the series because of the tight scheduling and severe conditions the actors were under while filming so that many fell sick. The producers also didn’t dramatize it in more layman dialogue and plotting and instead followed the novel’s approach of event storytelling, which can be confusing because of the many characters that come and go and the many events that happen over a long course of time. For purists though, this series was a masterpiece.

Now that John Woo had released the two-part “Red Cliff” movie, it seemed like the right time to remake this ambitious series. Hopefully, the series will adapt the novel more fittingly this time around so that it is more mainstream. Casting seems satisfying so far, especially Lu Yi as Zhuge Liang from videos - he has that cunning look. Peter Ho will be interesting as the powerful Lu Bu who falls for the maiden trap while Ruby Lin will once again be compared to the same role that Zhao Wei played in the movies.

Cast:
Shu Han:
Yu Hewei (于和伟) as Liu Bei
Nie Yuan (聂远) as Zhao Yun
Yu Rongguang (于荣光) as Guan Yu
Lu Yi (陆毅) as Zhuge Liang

Eastern Wu:
Zhang Bo (张博) as Sun Quan
Sha Yi (沙溢) as Sun Ce
Ruby Lin (林心如) as Sun Shangxiang
Victor Huang (黃維德) as Zhou Yu
Zhao Ke (赵柯) as Xiao Qiao

Wei:
Chen Jianbin (陈建斌) as Cao Cao

Others:
Peter Ho (何润东) as Lü Bu
Chen Hao (陈好) as Diao Chan
Lü Xiaohe (吕晓禾) as Dong Zhuo
Liu Jing (刘竞) as Da Qiao

TVB Burning Flame III makes opening record in last 3 years

Burning Flame III

The third installment of TVB’s firefighters drama, “Burning Flame III”, starring Wong Hei, Kevin Cheng, Bosco Wong, and Myolie Wu aired on 7/6/09 Monday and made viewership record history for a drama’s opening day in TVB’s last 3 years. It tied with the 2006 TVB drama “The Dance of Passion”. “Burning Flame III” averaged 36 points on the first day and reach 38 points since, the equivalent of over 242,000 viewers. And Myolie doesn’t even show up yet until episode 2.

Kevin Cheng seemed ecstatic over the news and when asked if he would don a swimsuit to celebrate if the drama reaches 40 points, he jokingly said it would be weird if he did it by himself and that Wong Hei and Bosco will have to do it together.

Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber 2009 trailers

Zhang Ji Zhong’s latest Jin Yong adaption on the last part of the Condor Trilogy - Yi Tian Tu Long Ji, or The Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber 2009. The landscape looks dreamy, epic, and beautiful - it reminds one of the fantasy-like world that was created for Return of the Condor Heroes 2006 (ROCH). Hopefully, the producers won’t spend all their budget on the scenery and forget to tell a proper story though as they did with ROCH. Some scenes look overly-CGI’ed, especially the introduction of Tse Sun and his lion’s roar wielding the Dragon Saber. The Dragon Saber also looks ridiculously huge and stunted in length. I realize that the Heavenly Sword didn’t make an appearance in the trailers either - marketing gimmick?

Ady An looks like a good choice for Zhao Min as she looks very pretty in the ancient outfits and fittingly arrogant for the Mongolian princess. Deng Chao as Zhang Wu Ji looked very much like a child in the poster but in the videos, he looks like he can pass as the character. Liu Jing, however, just doesn’t seem pretty or young enough to play Zhou Zhiruo. Xiao Chao played by He Zhuo Yan seems to be another good casting.

Each trailer is over 8 minutes in length.

Cecilia Cheung speaks up about Edison Chan photo scandal

In an interview with I-Cable, Cecilia Cheung speaks up for the first time about the Edison Chan nude photo scandal involving herself and other Hong Kong female celebrities such as Gillian Chung and Karena Lam.  This is coming after the witness testimonial for the suspect of the photo scandal trial that Edison Chan gave in Vancouver and admitted to the identities of some of the female celebrities. After the trial, Edison said to the media that he hoped that all the involved women will be healthy and to stand up again and that they have endured enough already.

Cecilia Cheung says that initially she didn’t speak up because she felt that she had to take responsibility and punishment for her own mistakes but after seeing Edison’s interview on the news, Cecilia angrily decided to “stand up” and speak up for the first time. She called Edison’s wishes crocodile tears and says that what hurt the victimized women was not the media, but Edison. She says that Edison kept speaking about protecting the women using all his powers since the scandal, but has done nothing to do so - for instance, up to today, the photos are still circulating on the web. Cecilia claims that her agent tried to call Edison many times after the scandal exploded but was always brushed off. He has never apologized to any of the women personally, he has only apologized to the media publicly.

Cecilia’s message to Edison was to ask that he respect the affected women, to not hypocritically come out saying one thing and doing another, asking for apology to only get the public’s sympathy for himself. Please stop hurting the women and respect them!
