Zhang Ji Zhong’s latest Jin Yong adaption on the last part of the Condor Trilogy – Yi Tian Tu Long Ji, or The Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber 2009. The landscape looks dreamy, epic, and beautiful – it reminds one of the fantasy-like world that was created for Return of the Condor Heroes 2006 (ROCH). Hopefully, the producers won’t spend all their budget on the scenery and forget to tell a proper story though as they did with ROCH. Some scenes look overly-CGI’ed, especially the introduction of Tse Sun and his lion’s roar wielding the Dragon Saber. The Dragon Saber also looks ridiculously huge and stunted in length. I realize that the Heavenly Sword didn’t make an appearance in the trailers either – marketing gimmick?
Ady An looks like a good choice for Zhao Min as she looks very pretty in the ancient outfits and fittingly arrogant for the Mongolian princess. Deng Chao as Zhang Wu Ji looked very much like a child in the poster but in the videos, he looks like he can pass as the character. Liu Jing, however, just doesn’t seem pretty or young enough to play Zhou Zhiruo. Xiao Chao played by He Zhuo Yan seems to be another good casting.
Each trailer is over 8 minutes in length.
