An emotional Felicia Chin revealed to the media yesterday after the Ren Ci Charity Show that her beloved grandfather had passed away earlier in the day.
The actress was one of the highlights for the returning charity fundraiser, starring in an elaborate musical production of the classical Chinese love story Butterfly Lovers, opposite MediaCorp hunk Elvin Ng. The performance involved a large cast, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, and even guest-starred popular Hong Kong actress Nancy Sit and Member of Parliament Baey Yam Keng.
However, except for a few scene-stealers like Nancy’s participation, general reception towards the supposed highlight of the evening was poor, owing to the average ‘live’ acting and lip-synched songs. The 19-minute segment, which some felt were too long, saw donation figures increase by about $204,000.
