Lin Chi-ling to star as Takuya Kimura’s lover in Japanese drama series

Leggy model-actress Lin Chi-ling will be making her first foray in the Japanese entertainment industry in a drama series starring Takuya Kimura.

The 35-year-old grew famous in Japan after her debut acting stint in the history epic film, Red Cliff. She was also recently invited to star as the lead actress in a music video for popular Japanese boyband, SMAP.

According to the Japanese media, the upcoming drama series will be produced by Fuji TV and Lin will take on the role as a model engaged to shoot a series of advertisements for Kimura’s design company. Feelings will start to develop between the pair’s characters over time.

Fuji TV reportedly had a hard time trying to pick their lead actress as Kimura tends to nitpick on his drama’s scripts, fellow co-actors, and sponsors. They originally wanted to work with Kimura’s previous onscreen partners, Ayase Haruka and Kuroki Meisa,…

Blackie’s successful proposal to Fanfan at a New Jersey basketball game

Taiwanese host-actor Chen Chien-chou (better known as Blackie), went down on one knee and successfully proposed to his girlfriend of ten years, Taiwanese singer-songwriter, Christine Fan (better known as Fanfan) last Thursday at a basketball game in New Jersey, America.

As avid basketball fans, Blackie orchestrated this entire proposal and specially set it at the NBA basketball court in New Jersey. The ex-national Taiwanese basketball player shared that he felt “nervous and scared” as there were “too many unfamiliar foreigners” around them.

The 32-year-old revealed, “To buy this ring, I had to lie to her and tell her I was going to shop at Nike. I had to enlist the help of others to send her away.”

When the basketball match was nearing the half-time break, in front of the camera, Blackie asked Fanfan, “How long have we been dating?” His girlfriend gave it some thought and replied,…

Glenn: "I can propose anytime already."

Some people say the official length of that ‘honeymoon period’ in a new relationship for dating couple is between eight and twelve months – that is how long it takes to get the relationship ‘itch’. Well, not for Glenn Ong and Jean Danker.

Forget about dishing out ugly arguments and catching sights of the slightest signs of complacency from the couple. The ostentatious display of affections coupled with a diabetic dose of lovey dovey-ness by the pair of lovebirds during this interview almost got my partner into deep shit, I kid you not.

According to this Class 95FM DJ couple, nobody gives in or out-talks each other; instead arguments are always “talked-over and managed in a way that a relationship is supposed to be managed”.

“That was what I was unable to do before with my other partners,” Jean said. “Even in the way in which he phrases…

Have we been missing out on a lot?

Besides starring opposite heartthrob Thomas Ong in the serial, she’s also making a name for herself in the regional entertainment circles. Just yesterday, the 23-year-old officially became a student of top Chinese comedian Zhao Benshan.

Meixin flew out to the Chinese city of Shenyang on Tuesday for an elaborate seven-step ceremony where Zhao officially accepted the Singaporean as the latest of his 45 thespian pupils – and the first one based overseas, no less.

According to Meixin who joined the industry in 2007 as a singer, the Chinese actor-director picked her for her potential. They first crossed paths two years ago after the…

Jackie Chan tickles at Berlin film fest

A full house of international reporters cheered and applauded Hong Kong actor-filmmaker Jackie Chan after he spontaneously translated and sang in English a song from his latest movie Little Big Soldier.

At the press conference on Tuesday at the Berlin Film Festival, where his film is screening, Jackie’s massive appeal was evident as media from all over the world congregated in the room. The superstar delighted them with a personal performance with his renowned humour and charisma.

However, it wasn’t all laughs and jokes. The famous personality chose not to answer when confronted with politics.

Jackie also put on his serious front when speaking at a gala dinner the same night to celebrate the three Taiwanese films, Au revoir Taipei, One Day and Monga, at Berlinale. He said the three Mandarin-speaking regions of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan must work together for Chinese cinema to return to its…

Aaron Kwok is considering marriage

Now that eternal bachelor Andy Lau has comfortably settled into his new role as husband and Leon Lai has also married, all eyes are on the only single Hong Kong Heavenly King left, Aaron Kwok.

And the baby-faced, 44-year-old superstar is already showing signs of wanting to settle down.

His love life with rumoured girlfriend Lynn Xiong was once again the centre of media attention when he appeared at a Lunar New Year event in Hong Kong last Wednesday. But the actor-singer didn’t seem to mind and candidly spoke about her in front of reporters who asked about his “good friend.”

The couple did not spend Valentine’s Day together, which coincided with the first day of the Chinese New Year. The actress-model visited her family back in Nanjing, while Aaron stayed with his mother in Hong Kong.

When asked if his mother has hopes for a daughter-in-law soon,…

Elfaeza finds male lawyers sexy if

“If they [male lawyers] are all like Adrian [Pang], yes they are very sexy,” Elfaeza declared candidly before breaking into a hearty, boisterous burst of laughter.

Elfaeza UI Haq, a familiar face on Suria and perhaps best known as the TV host of its children’s programme Krayon where she first got her start in the local show business.

When we caught up with 24 year-old freelance actress at a photo-shoot, she was a picture of visibly joy, having landed her first major English-speaking role with Channel 5′s legal drama series.

In The Pupil, she plays associate “Nisa Muhammad Noor” who is feisty, ambitious and always full of drive to win a case. According to the actress, despite the pressure of acting alongside her veteran co-stars, she finds it “very enjoyable pretending to be a lawyer”.

“It’s very intimidating working with Adrian [Pang] and Janice [Koh] but they have…

Nat Ho: Adrian and I are not fated onscreen

For two local actors who have been through such bonding moments like Mandarin-speaking scares and being scantily clad in nothing but skimpy red swimming trunks together, Nat Ho is naturally upset to see his kentang (Malay slang for a Chinese person who speaks English) compatriot Adrian Pang bid adios to TV station MediaCorp (the date is set for April this year).

“I feel a bit sad. I’m gonna miss him. Being in the media, I don’t think people stay away for long, so I’m sure I’ll see him around.”

Both men, who starred as the estranged father-and-son pair in the recently-concluded Ch 5 water polo drama Polo Boys, will reunite as rivals of sorts in the upcoming Ch 8 drama I’m With You where Adrian plays a man who can see Chen Hanwei’s spirit (after he gets killed in an accident) and soon becomes a target of hostility…

Charmaine Sheh takes legal action against paparazzi

Charmaine Sheh has had enough.

After seemingly endless gossip mill spinning and paparazzi attention on her alleged dalliances with her male co-stars, the Hong Kong TVB actress is washing her hands off it and transferring the burden to her lawyer.

Known for her calm demeanour, the ice-queen appeared to finally have a meltdown last month. She abruptly left an interview halfway when reporters probed her about her rumoured relationship with fellow actor Moses Chan.

At a horseracing event on Tuesday where she was guest performer, the top-earning actress told reporters she has left matters in her lawyer’s hands. The latest news disclosed was that a secret rendezvous of her and Moses was caught by his rumoured other half, Chinese-Canadian actress-model Bernice Liu.

Charmaine added that she has informed Moses, her co-star in upcoming drama Arrival of Princess, about her move and reiterated that the three involved parties are…

Giving out angbaos doesn’t mean I’m married: Stefanie Sun

Stefanie Sun celebrated the Chinese New Year with a concert last Tuesday at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) where midway she handed out angbaos (red packets) to fans.

The local songbird said that the generous gesture did not imply that she has married her Dutch boyfriend according to the rumour mill, but simply in the spirit of the Lunar New Year. (Traditionally, only married couples, not singles, distribute red packets during Chinese New Year.)

Stefanie is the second act to perform at the newly-opened Integrated Resort, after American rock band Boys Like Girls kicked off the first music gig here last month. She was originally scheduled to perform at Singapore Indoor Stadium for The Answer Is Stefanie Sun World Tour, but eventually ditched the larger venue in order to make history as the first local and Asian singer to stage a concert here.

In front of a crowd of…
