Jay Chou has no qualms about retiring

When you’re Jay Chou, retirement is never a problem.
Especially when he has raked in over TWD 2.3b (S$120m) for the past six years, making him one of the most profitable stars around.
The 31-year-old superstar recently held a press conference in Taiwan after his concerts in Singapore concluded.
He told reporters that he does not plan to stay in showbiz when he can no longer earn his keep.
“I will back out if I’m no longer popular. I don’t see the need to spend my whole life in showbiz. I know that it’ll too much to ask for the children to treat an uncle as an idol.”
While his role in Hollywood’s The Green Hornet was highly anticipated, his self-directed idol drama Pandamen received negative responses.
“I always felt that we don’t support our own people. I know a lot of famous Japanese and Korean stars went to audition for the part (in The Green Hornet) and I feel happy that I’ve beaten them to it. I am proud of being a Chinese and I just want to prove that we’re the better ones.”
During his stay in the States, Jay revealed that he felt envious at how Hollywood stars lead a normal life and even go shopping on the streets.
His popularity back in Taiwan prevents him from doing the same thing – he would have been swamped by fans and the paparazzi already – but the star has been trying to do “what normal people do” on the sly.
Although he still has to put on masks to conceal his identity, he is contented to be able to just go walk the streets, sing karaoke, things that normal people take for granted.
On romance, Jay revealed that he is a good lover whose girlfriend will come before friends.
“If I am attached, I would put friends as a second priority.”
“I will do whatever I can to make her feel that I’m not a star. I can lead a normal life too, it’s just that I can’t do that all the time.”
So will we ever see Jay coming out in the open about his love interest?
“Of course! Revealing the identity of the bride on the day of marriage is the coolest thing to do.”
Fans of Jay probably remember that Jay also has a weird habit – going ‘commando’.
When asked why he has this weird habit of not wearing underwear, Jay simply replies that “it’s comfortable”.
“Before I started out in showbiz, I had to work and clean my own clothes. Back then I like to wear basketball pants and since those pants are so comfortable, I stopped wearing underwear. Saves me the effort of washing them too.”
Jay added that the only times where he will wear underwear are for his concerts due to the need to change costumes fast.
In other words, tabulating the number of concerts Jay had, this superstar has only worn underwear 98 times in the past 10 years!
