Taiwanese singer Zhang Yunjing feels weird talking about love in public.
So she chooses to pour her views on love through her songs. These songs can be found in her new album, The Opposite Me.
The winner of Taiwan’s Super Idol, was in town recently to promote her latest album.
The 27-year-old has impressed with her strong vocals and boyish charms. The singer also won the best newcomer award in last year’s Singapore Hit Awards.
During the press conference for The Opposite Me, Yunjing explained that the album’s concept arise from her own character.
“Maybe this is due to Virgo’s (Yunjing’s horoscope) characteristics; I have conflicting sides to my character so I often get lost in the opposing thoughts.”
Yunjing also related her own take on relationship matters. She admitted that it felt “weird to talk about love in public”, so Yunjing chose to relate her views through her songs.
One of her songs in her album, Broken, talks about how a relationship should be eliminated if it’s ‘spoilt’.
So is that Yunjing’s personal experience?
“Yes! One should always face up to what has gone by, so I will not hang on to something that is already broken.”
The witty singer then went on to plug two of her own songs, Cease Contact and Message in her answer.
“I will cease contact and say ‘bye bye’ to the past! But sometimes, I do slip up and send him messages.”
So is the ‘him’ in question her ex-beau?
Yunjing smiled and nodded. Before xinmsn could probe further, Yunjing’s aide interrupted and requested for us to stop asking questions regarding romance.
Despite her lack of musical training, Yunjing tried her hand at writing her own songs – she wrote the melody for The Opposite Me – but lyrics proved to be her weak spot.
Yunjing wrote over 10 different versions of lyrics for a song but all of them were rejected.
She also revealed that her inspiration usually comes with silence. However, Yunjing said that she would go out for a walk when she is running dry on inspirations.
“I like to ride a bicycle or walk around. I like to go out and have a big feast with my friends; it helps to spur me on!”
For her second album, Yunjing bared her shoulders for the cover shoot and music video. Will fans be seeing more of the conservative singer in her next album?
“This (The Opposite Me album) is acceptable but I can’t go any further down!”
“But if everyone really wants to see more, then perhaps I can show my back.”
Yunjing also expressed interest in acting and is especially interested in taking up a role in a comedy, like Karen Mok’s role in Stephen Chow’s The God of Cookery.
“I’m not afraid of uglifying myself; I really want to try a comedy, regardless of whether it’s a movie or a drama serial. All I want is a chance.”
Since Yunjing is willing to make a sacrifice, xinmsn jokingly asks that includes putting on a short skirt (Yunjing once said that she still cannot stand wearing a short skirt).
“Short skirt? But my thighs are huge… Ha ha!”
