Local songwriter Xiao Han refuses to pay her respects to her late grandparents.

However, it\’s not because she doesn\’t love them.

To Xiao Han, her grandparents still lives on in her heart and this is her way of remembering her loving grandparents.

\”In my heart, they exist forever. To me, it\’s like they never left at all; they just went somewhere a bit further, that\’s all.\”

The acclaimed songwriter expressed this love in the theme song, Shou Zhong Xian (loosely translates to Thread in Hand) for the movie Love Cuts, which stars veteran actress Zoe Tay.

Xiao Han penned the lyrics while Eric Ng is in charge of the music; local newcomer Serene Koong will be the voice behind the song.

In an interview with xinmsn, Xiao Han talked about her grandparents and how they took care of her.

\”I\’m very close to them and they really doted on me,\” Xiao Han smiled.

\”When I was 18, my grandmother passed away suddenly when I was busy preparing for my A-Levels. After less than three months, my grandfather suffered a stroke and passed on too.\”

Xiao Han also recalled her young days when her grandfather had to work as a painter to earn an income. The family also tried to earn extra bucks by helping to paste logo stickers on ballpoint pens as a side-job.

\”When I was in primary school, whenever I started running around in the rain, my grandmother would run around to try and shelter me from the rain with her umbrella.\”

Losing two of her close kin in such a short span of time must have been devastating. Her way of remember her late grandparents does not go down well with everyone. Her sister is one of them.

\”She doesn\’t understand,\” Xiao Han sighed.

To Xiao Han and Eric, Shou Zhong Xian also bears another purpose: to commemorate 25-year-old designer Chen Li Li, who passed away recently in July.

Li Li is a good friend of Eric\’s and in the nights prior to her departure, Eric brought his laptop to the hospital where both them worked on the song together.

\”During the treatment, Li Li even became the one consoling the people around her,\” Xiao Han said.

As a move to remember his late friend, Eric has started an event on Facebook called You Don\’t Need to Know Someone to Care for Someone .
