Holding several product endorsements is usually a lucrative affair but for Ethan Ruan, it may be an entirely different case.

The Monga actor was recently caught up in a product endorsement deal clash between two different jeans brands.

Taiwanese jeans brand SOMETHING is seeking compensation from Ethan for endorsing Lee Jeans even before his contract with SOMETHING ended.

“Artistes should not be allowed to endorse similar products with different brands within such a short frame of time, this is professional ethics. It was a mistake to not have emphasized this clause when we signed Ethan back then.”

Ethan signed a contract with SOMETHING last August, stating him as the official celebrity endorser for them. However, in late July this year, Ethan’s company announced that he would be contracting with Lee Jeans and even attended official functions as an endorser.

SOMETHING is now claiming TWD3m(S$150,000), which was Ethan’s fee in endorsements and negotiations are said to be underway. SOMETHING’s spokesperson even claims that should negotiations fail, they will take legal action against Ethan.

Ethan’s manager initially denied the allegations, even saying “This is weird; I’ll need to check back first.”

He subsequently contacted the reporters and explained that he cannot reveal anything as the issue involves sensitive contract clauses.
