Korean celebs charged with propofol abuse

By spcnet.tv on March 13th, 2013 | Korean Dramas, Korean Entertainment

Korean prosecutors on Wednesday formally charged four female celebrities, Park Si-yeon, Jang Mi-inae, Lee Seung-yeun and Hyun Young, with abusing propofol, a drug widely used as an anesthetic during surgery, reported Korean media.

Prosecutors said Park was the heaviest user of the four, receiving more than 180 injections of the drug at two cosmetic surgery clinics between 2011 and 2012, for surgical procedures that did not actually take place.

The authorities have also charged the doctors who illegally administered the propofol injections, and an artiste management agency representative who had obstructed their investigations.

Propofol is a fast-acting sedative which relaxes the user and gives the user a feeling of euphoria.

However, it has a number of side effects, and can affect the user’s respiratory and cardiac functions.

Propofol is the same drug that killed US superstar Michael Jackson, who died from an overdose in 2009.

Park Si Hoo embroiled in 1bn won sex scandal

By spcnet.tv on March 4th, 2013 | Korean Dramas, Korean Entertainment

Korean actor Park Si Hoo, who previously starred in popular dramas like “The Princess’ Man”, spent almost 10 hours with Korean police on Friday, to assist with investigations into claims that he had sexually assaulted a female aspiring entertainer, reported Korean media.

The 22-year-old woman had earlier alleged that Park got her drunk at a bar, then took her to his home and sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious on February 15.

The police announced over the weekend that they have received new evidence on the case from Park’s lawyers during their session with Park, in the form of message logs between Park’s accuser and her friend.

In one exchange which took place after the incident, the aspiring entertainer apparently expressed that she would attempt to play the victim when she went to the police, after her friend suggested that she ask Park for a 1 billion won (S$1.1 million) settlement fee.

However, the police pointed out that none of these exchanges have managed to prove that their sexual encounter was consensual as Park had claimed, adding that they would continue to investigate the matter.

Park, who was mobbed by reporters when he left the police station on Friday, did not comment on the investigations, only saying that “the truth will prevail”.

Overseas broadcasters have reportedly put negotiations over the purchase of the broadcasting rights to Park’s latest drama serial, “Cheongdamdong Alice”, on hold, in light of the controversy surrounding Park’s sexual assault case.

Park Si-hoo Fails To Appear For Police Questioning

By spcnet.tv on February 26th, 2013 | Korean Entertainment

Actor Park Si-hoo, who has been charged with raping an aspiring starlet, has again failed to present himself for questioning by police. He had been summoned for 7 p.m. on Sunday.

“At around 6 p.m., an hour before he was scheduled to appear, Park’s lawyer informed us that he wouldn’t show after all,” a police spokesman said.

Park also got a new lawyer on Sunday, who told police the actor now wants the investigation to be handled by the precinct that has jurisdiction over the trendy Cheongdam-dong area of southern Seoul, where his home and the bar where he drank with the alleged victim drank are located.

The investigation has so far been handled by police in western Seoul, which has jurisdiction over the accuser’s home. The precinct declined and summoned Park again for questioning this week.

Meanwhile, another actor identified only by his surname Kim, who introduced Park to his accuser on the night of the alleged rape, has also been charged with raping the woman. Kim was also scheduled to report to police on Sunday night but did not show up.

Police said on Friday they are investigating whether Park spiked the woman’s drink at the bar where they first met, since CCTV footage suggests she suddenly fell unconscious after leaving the bar. Police collected samples of her blood and urine and handed them over to the National Forensic Service.

Earlier, the woman told police that she passed put and only realized she had been raped after she regained consciousness. She said she felt she became drunk unusually fast.

CCTV Footage Backs Rape Charge Against Park Si Hoo

By spcnet.tv on February 26th, 2013 | Korean Dramas, Korean Entertainment

Surveillance camera footage casts doubt on actor Park Si-hoo’s denials that he raped a 22-year-old aspiring starlet.

The CCTV footage shows his accuser being carried on the back of the acquaintance who introduced them as they arrive at Park’s home in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul on the night of the incident.

According to police, the acquaintance stopped his car in the parking lot of the apartment complex at around 2 a.m. on Friday and is then seen carrying the woman inside.

The woman had earlier told police she passed out on the night in question and on regaining consciousness discovered she had been raped. Park claims the sex was consensual.

The three met at 11 p.m. on Thursday at a bar in the trendy Gangnam district.

Police also have surveillance camera footage from the bar where they drank. It shows the woman walking down the stairs unassisted. “She did not appear drunk when she left the bar and Park was merely escorting her so that she wouldn’t fall down,” the owner of the bar said.

That means she became heavily intoxicated during the 10-minute journey from the bar to the apartment. The woman apparently told police that she was surprised how quickly she became drunk, suggesting that her drink had been spiked.

Police have summoned Park for questioning on Sunday morning.
