Bae Yong-joon born in Seoul 1972 is a Korean actor, notable for his participation in numerous television dramas. Yong-joon's career started in 1994 with a role in a South Korean movie Ppilku. The film however, was not released till 1997, so the first time he was made known to the audience in such TV dramas as Salut D'Amour and Six Steps to Separation (1994 and 1995) respectively. 1999 meant a break from acting for Bae, who joined the Sung Kyun Kwan University, where he majored in film studies. After his return to the TV and movies in 2001, the career of Bae Yong-joon lifted off. His double role of Kang Joon Sang / Lee Min Hyung in the drama Winter Sonata (2002) propelled him to the international stardom. Winter Sonata was broadcast on Japan's NHK and 20% of the audience followed this TV drama. In fact, Winter Sonata created an entire rage for Korean TV dramas in Japan and other countries of the region. Further popularity came to Bae Yong-joo as Jo-won, Korean vicomte Sébastien de Valmont in the Untold scandal based on the classical Les Liaisons dangereuses of Pierre Ambroise François Choderlos de Laclos.
