Cecilia Cheung is an actress and singer, born in Hong Kong and perhaps best known for her own career, her marriage to Nicholas Tse, and for being caught up in the Edison Chen scandal. Cheung was born in 1980 and raised partly in Australia. Her first springboard to notoriety was as one of Stephen Chow's many "sing girls" in two films of 1999, when she won a Hong Kong Film Award as best newcomer. At the same time she began her career as a Canto-pop singer, which has since resulted in ten major releases. Appearing in two dozen increasingly popular films, her film career hit a high point with her role in the 2003 Lost in Time, for which she was named Best Actress. After an extended, up-and-down courtship, she and Nicholas Tse were married in 2006 in a secret ceremony and Chenug became a mother, but as the primary victim of the embarrassing Chen photo scandal in 2008 she has largely retired from the public eye.
