Biography
One of Japan's most renowned and respected Jrock singers, Gackt is well-known to be very competitive and pushes himself to the limits in everything he does. His hobbies include martial arts that require high, intense concentration and perseverance, dating traditional girls and reading world news. He can almost play every musical instrument on earth, ranging from piano, trombone, drums, violin, bass, saxophone to the ancient shamisen. Piano and drums are his forte.
He was once a leading vocalist of the visual kei group Malice Mizer from 1998-2001. Since 2001, Gackt has founded his own solo music career with GacktJob, which includes members You, Chachamaru, Ju-ken and many others. He treats GacktJob as his family members and will always be together with them. He has written his own autobiography in Japanese called Jihaku, meaning Confessions.
Gackt is also a famous actor and a voice actor. His famous works include Moonchild and Furin Kazan. He was so successful in his portrayal of Uesugi Kenshin in Furin Kazan that Hollywood director Guy Moshe flew to Japan and requested him to take the role of samurai Yoshi in the upcoming movie Bunraku. Bunraku will be shown shortly in summer 2009. Gackt also does voice-acting for Genesis, a character based off him in Final Fantasy VII, Dirge of Cerebrus.
Gackt writes and composes all of his songs, except the recent Kamen Rider theme song. He likes keeping himself fit on low-carb meals and intense periods of work-out everyday.
Gackt calls his fans Dears and organises an annual gathering for them. He is deeply protective of children, wanting to build an amusement park for them and wishes to meet people from all over the world. Gackt is now concerned in uniting the hearts of Asians through music culture and bringing more peace to this world. He is campaigning for Tokyo to host the 2016 Paralympics Games.
