This is the story of a young, idealistic teacher who enters Shirokin Gakuen with hopes of making a difference in the students' lives. However, Yamaguchi Kumiko is in for a rude awakening when she finds that she will be the homeroom teacher of 3-D, the hardest class to maintain in the school. The students have multi-colored hair, sloppy uniforms, and show absolutely no respect to her. The leader of the class, Sawada Shin is lazy but bright and shows some interest in Yamaguchi when he notices that she is very different from other teachers. The students try to bully her to make her quit, but their attempts don't get them very far.

What the class and the rest of the school does not know is that Yamaguchi Kumiko is actually the 4th generation heir to the Ooedo Group, a notorious yakuza clan (which is an organized crime group in Japan; they're known as violence groups). Even though her family would like her to take the title of Ojou
when her grandfather dies, they have accepted the fact that Yamaguchi would rather be a teacher.

Eventually, the students learn to respect their quirky teacher because of her devotion to them, and even give her a nickname: Yankumi.

For me, this was a very interesting drama. Although the main plot of this story is about a teacher and how she earns her students' trust, it also has some other smaller problems in it too. For example, there's the problem where Yamaguchi Kumiko has to try and keep her secret from the school, and there's also her love life, even though it doesn't progress much. I thought that this drama was very funny and light-hearted too. In the beginning, I thought that this drama was a little dull and boring. But after the incident when Yamaguchi believes Kuma when he says that he didn't steal the Vice Principal's bag of money, and when she starts searching for it in the river, it caught my interest. Surely, I thought, this is one different drama. And it was. I thoroughly enjoyed Gokusen throughout the whole thing. It turned out to be very satisfying! And, to make it even better, it had some cute actors in it (mainly Matsumoto Jun)!! :D

The scenes that I liked the best were:
- When Yamaguchi always saved her students from the bad guys (which happened very often).

Some bad things about this drama were:
-It's very repetitive. It always seems like the students hate Yamaguchi, but she earns their trust, and then they start to like her. She always comes to the rescue, never even losing once. I just thought that for some, it might start to get boring. BUT this was the reason I kept watching it, because it was so hilariously funny and every time it made me laugh.

-The transformation when Yamaguchi takes off her pigtails and her glasses before fighting isn't really a good transformation to me...They could've done a cooler and more amazing transformation. This transformation just seemed too plain and simple for me.

-The parts when Yamaguchi gets all corny and starts daydreaming about Shinohara-san, saying all these weird things.

Ok, so I know that I had more bad things to say rather than good things. But nevertheless, I rated this drama a 4/5 because it was very amusing but like all the other dramas, it had its flaws too. Even saying that, this was still a really pleasant drama. It would make you happy if you were sad. I also liked how it wasn't like many other dramas, which are normally just about romance or just about violence. I mean, yeah, Gokusen had lots of violence in it, but in the end after each incident, the students end up learning another important value in life. Gokusen also portrayed good values, like friendship and what it really means, as well as trust too. Honestly, this was one of my favorite dramas, and so was the second and third season (which is currently airing)! But you'll see the reviews for Gokusen 2 and Gokusen 3 in another review...Maybe one that I end up writing! :D Happy Drama-watching!!
