Four Sisters

I just finished viewing Four Sisters and I must say it was quite good. I noticed though that nearly all the casts were from All About Eve (or maybe it was the other way round), and even the guy who played the sports agent (Jun Ha) had hair and smiled the way Jang Dong Gun did in All about Eve.

The storyline was great and the cast was brilliant. I really connected with the eldest sister, being an eldest child myself with four younger sisters. For those who are interested, here are the main characters:

Hyung Yun is the eldest sister. She is actually a step-sister. She was taken in by her father after her real mother died in an accident. Her father and mother were lovers but weren't able to get married due to their families being against their relationship. This information wasn't shown but you pick it up as you go.

Yu-Jin (Chae Rim) is the second sister. She is smart and outspoken. She was in love with Lee Yong-Hun (played by Han Jae Suk) from the very beginning.

Yu-Mi is the 3rd sister. She has a very good-looking and responsible (he is breadwinner to 5 younger siblings) boyfriend but she left him for a richer match, which left her with some unhappiness later in life. Her character resembles that of the mother, who sleeps endlessly and wakes up with a solution to marry off one daughter or another with some rich guy.

And Yu-San is the youngest. She had a heart problem since birth and it was the fathers' wish later on in the series that Yu-jin and Yong-hun go to America to learn more about heart diseases in order to help her. The translation said university so I gathered that she was in love with her university lecturer.

Finally the hero: Yong Hun. He is the family maid's grandson. After his mother mysteriously disappeared after being admitted into hospital, the family looked after him as if he was their own. The story evolves around his character.

If you like a fast-paced drama like All About Eve (and I realized this was as fast as kdramas go), then you will love this drama. It took me some time to familiarize myself with the characters and their names, not being Korean myself (especially the jump from kid to adulthood) but the sisters are unique in their characters.

The only problem I have with the series (and most korean series for that matter) is that it is usually the female who does the "stalking". In real life it must be quite embarassing, I must say, although maybe not in western culture. The only logical relationships were those of the eldest and third sister. Yu-Jin's and Yu-San's relationships were quite "weird". The amazing thing was, the male counterparts really liked their female partners but held back (as far as they could go!) for some reason or the other. I never realized there could be such a trait in the male species!

Anyway, I enjoyed this drama. After watching several of Chae Rim's dramas, I realized she has limited number of ways in which to express her emotions and is best at looking surprised. She looks very young and too pretty to be a doctor, and looks like a model from a teen magazine (what can I say, the disadvantages of cosmetic surgery?). Nevertheless I give it an 8/10 for the good storyline and also because Han Jae Suk looked real smart when he had his hair swept back and his white coat on!
