Background Story (Some spoilers!)

This story revolves around the life of a very lucky and fortunate person, Michelle (played by Myolie). By Hong Kong (HK) standards, she can be classified as extremely fortunate. Her dad runs a successful business, her mom stays at home to take care of family business, her brother studies abroad, her grandfather was a pretty successful tailor in his day, and as for herself, she's been studying in a foreign country (I think it was the U.S.)for a couple of years. However, she is never in the same school for a long time. The series starts off with her coming back to HK after being kicked out of the university. She decides that she's not going to study anymore and that she just wants to hang around the house until she finds something she truly wants to do.

Nick Yau is one of the best fashion designers in Asia. The first time he met Michelle was actually on the flight back from the U.S. She spilled red wine all over his precious cloth. While in HK, Michelle decides that she has to prove to her dad that she she can work and she is able to work at a job without getting fired or quitting. As the story unravels, we get to know that her grandfather (the master tailor) was actually the one who taught Nick Yau how to make clothes. Through her grandfather, Michelle was able to enter the working team in Nick Yau's office.

Ella is a very very unlucky person. Everything that she has done in her life has been done by her own hands. She grew up with just her two brothers and she lives at her older brother's house with his wife who hates her and her younger brother. Ella has a passion to be a fashion designer and she has set herself a goal to win a scholarship to enter fashion school in the U.S. However, Ella can never seem to get anything that she wants because she has the worst of luck. This triggers an instant conflict between Ella and Michelle because Ella can't stand the fact that Michelle is always "so lucky".

The Review

I was actually introduced to this series from my aunt and cousin who claimed that this series was pretty good. In my mind, I thought that if they said it was good, then I should be in for a pretty good series. Boy, was I wrong. Personally, I think what makes a drama series good are appealing actors/actresses and an entertaining, decent story (I know, it's asking for a lot, especially from TVB).

I really really hated the character Ella. I could not believe some of the stuff she would do to Michelle, directly or indirectly. I can't believe that anyone who has any morals or any respect would do the things that she would do. She sacrifices her two best friends so that she could be successful in the fashion world. Watching her do all those evil things out of spite made me want to just throw my TV down the street.

The acting in the series was OK. Nothing spectacular but nothing all too bad. The only reason why I say that is because Myolie Wu and Melissa Ng portrayed their respective roles pretty well. While the others--especially Rain Lee and Sharon Chan--were pretty sad, to say the least as actresses.

I would not recommend this series for anyone. Unless, you really have nothing else better to do or if you're into fashion or if you're a fan of one of the actors/actresses.
