Forensic Heroes III

I have raved positively about the first Forensic Heroes, and had more positive remarks about Forensic Heroes II, both by one of my favourite actors Bobby Au-Yeong. When I heard about Forensic Heroes III, I was disappointed that it was a spin-off. Still I decided to watch this show as this genre has always interest me.

After watching, I was really amazed by the latest technology. Instead of personally going to the morgue or police office, now they (police officers, forensic officers, pathologist) all communicate via tablets and video conferencing. The latest technology to check for evidence on the products found and the bodies are really awesome!

Despite stepping into the image of Bobby Au-Yeong, Wayne Lai did a pretty good job as the knowledgeable Pro Sir, the head of forensics. It makes me wonder, does all forensic officers look like that - suit, serious look, sunglasses, walking encyclopedia, big briefcases? Like Tim Sir, Pro Sir is often the missing link to close the case.

However, I am not used to seeing Wayne in such a serious character. He is often portrayed as someone simple minded, or cheeky, or evil, but not this no-nonsense, serious look, that takes everything seriously, be it his job or his family life. Incidentally, I like the interior decoration of his apartment.

I have not seen Maggie Cheung in many series lately, but she did well as a pathologist. This also seems to be a very typical image - no-nonsense, serious, perfectionist.

With the seriousness, comes the comedy. Like the first two Forensic Heroies, the comedy comes in the form of the fathers of the main characters. In this case, Yuen Wah as Pro Sir's father provides the comedy relief, as well as the guy who portrayed Maggie's grandfather.

The police team headed by Kate Tsui and Ron Ng also did pretty good. Even the love stories involved are well-played out. Maggie and Ruco Chan played a pair of lovers who knew somehow the "missing connection" wasn't there, so they parted on amicable terms. Wayne Lai and Nancy Wu played a husband and wife team who was obviously drifting apart because their lifestyles and values became so different, until the divorce around the middle part of the show where Nancy went off to pursue her career in a huge conglomerate, heartlessly leaving her husband and daughter behind.

Of course, Wayne and Maggie got together after a series of encounters. But their love affair was played out again very subtly, as typical TVB. It is not the lovey dovey Kate Tsui and Ron Ng kind, but the more serious, mature and reserved kind where "we know how we feel for each other" and comfortable with each other, but not necessarily the touchy-feely kind.

Oh and the cases of course! The cases consist of murder, unsolved murder, accident, and more murder, one even involving Ron's rich family, and from there, I seriously salute Ron for not following in his family's footsteps for being snobbish and selfish.

Even though this is a spin-off, it is pretty on par with the previous two. The new cast did a fantastic job and this is essentially a show all on its own without needing to ride on the previous two. The only similarities are the name, the image, and the end where everyone got called off to a case again, but other than that, this is another good forensic show that TVB produced.
