Synopsis

In the Leng family, the eldest daughter Choi Fung (Hsuan) lives a life similar to Cinderella. Her mother died and her father remarried. Her stepmother makes Fung do all the housework, grocery shopping, cook, and she is forced to make sure that her father's antique collection doesn't fall into the hands of her stepmother and her gambling addiction. Fung's stepsister Choi Dip (Tong) treats her like a true sister. That is until...

One day, Choi Dip finds out that she was promised to the village idiot Ah Wong (Kwok). Choi Dip of course, doesn't want to marry Ah Wong. She feels it is unfair because Choi Fung is able to marry a man from a wealthy family, Bao Gai Zhong (Cho). Mrs. Leng of course more willing to help her own daughter over Choi Fung, she switches the marriages up. Choi Dip ends up marrying into the rich family while Choi Fung is tricked into marrying Ah Wong.

Choi Fung tries her best to escape her marriage to Ah Wong, but her attempts fail. Fung realizes that there is absolutely no way to getting out of it, so she resigns to being Ah Wong's 'wifey' until things take another drastic turn. A young woman named Pui Kwan (Yeung) claims Ah Wong is her fiancé. Choi Fung discovers that Ah Wong is the real heir of the Bao family who disappeared two years before, someone had attempted to murder him by hitting his head on a concrete floor. Thus, his memory loss was born.

Choi Fung takes this as an opportunity to be rid of Ah Wong forever, she helps Pui Kwan solve this mystery. The two women work together to expose Bao Gai Zhong, and prove Ah Wong as the rightful heir of the Bao family, and also help him get his memory back. Choi Fung is relieved when Ah Wong starts to remember little bits - but then she realizes that she has fallen for him. So what will she do when the time comes to let Ah Wong go?

Character Analysis
Roger Kwok as Ding Seung Wong
I absolutely adored Roger in this series. He was so cute and his acting was so believable. I think it would be hard to be able to portray someone with an intelligence of an eight-year-old so well. He seemed oblivious to the things going on around him and his sweet declarations of love for Jessica were so heart-warming. I love Roger and I will definitely watch more of him! Overall performance: 4.5/5

Jessica Hsuan as Leng Choi Fung
I never really liked Jessica at first. Her characters were always to rude and inconsiderate at times, therefore I never really liked her. To me, she never came across as pretty or an outstanding actress. But after "Square Pegs", I was talking to my mom while watching this and we were talking about what a great actress she was. I guess there are some things that can completely change your mind. "Square Pegs" changed my opinion about Jessica and I'm glad it did. I enjoy seeing Jessica on the television screen because I realized that just becacuse her character is portrayed a certain way - it is because Jessica does it well and it is believable. Jessica did a great job. Overall performance: 4.5/5

Raymond Cho as Bao Gai Zhong
Raymond has always played a supporting character role. I feel that his acting isn't too bad. If he were to get a leading role in a series, I think he would do pretty well. He is able to portray many different kinds of characters. And that is what I like about Raymond. But since he was only a supporting character in "Square Pegs", I don't have much to say about him. Overall performance: 4/5

Leila Tong as Leng Choi Dip
I disliked the character Leila played in this series. Sure, Jessica as her stepsister, but it is so heartless to do something like that. However, in many other series, I enjoyed Leila's presence. She is very cute and innocent-looking, her acting is also very good. Although I did not like her character too much in "Square Pegs", her acting was very well done. Overall performance: 4/5

Winnie Yeung as Yeung Pui Kwan
I don't like Winnie. Her acting never really appealed to me. She is okay-looking and her characters are always very naive and stubborn. This is only my opinion but I felt that she should have left Ah Wong alone. It was quite obvious that he was happy with Choi Fung. I wouldn't want to be the one to ruin someone else's happiness. Although she wanted to be happy herself, I don't think she really knew what love really was - or she would have let them be. Winnie Yeung has never moved me emotionally during a series, but maybe she will in the future, just like Jessica did in this series. Overall performance: 3.5/5

Review

During this series, I laughed so hard that I cried, and I cried so hard that I laughed. The little moments between Jessica Hsuan and Roger Kwok were absolutely adorable and the Chinese puns were great. I felt really bad when Ah Wong started to remember everything and Choi Fung was left hanging with nothing. Although I still loved this series and I would recommend it to anyone. It was this particular series that got me interested in Roger Kwok and Jessica Hsuan. From then on, those two have been a few of my favourite actors. A series with romance, humour, and a little bit of mystery - you can't miss it! Overall, I rate Square Pegs 4.5 out of 5 stars!
