How long
15 episodes (Good for me as I am impatient but I still find it draggy)

This is an adaptation of the Japanese manga 'The new cohabitation generation'. To tell the difference between the two, Cai Zhi Ping changes the name to make it easier to remember. Another serial that involves the F4 members.

Xiao Wen stays alone in Taipei. She wakes up one day to find herself in the same bed with Qian Yong. He is a university student who works part-time in a pub. Both become acquaintances after this embarrassing encounter. They start to blend into each other's lives. Even though they may have conflicts, they resolve them with the pub owner JJ's help.

Qian Yong helps JJ to look after his pub when he is out of town. JJ pays him handsomely and coaxes him to go on a trip with Xiao Wen. Both go to the hot spring and enjoy themselves. Both promise not to give up their dreams under the stars. Xiao Wen knows that Qian Yong is reluctant to buy an expensive camera which costs NT$19,000. She buys it for him. He is touched.

Xiao Wen is a pianist and a song company producer, Guan Tian Jian starts to admire her talents. She starts to release her first album. Qian Yong seeks to become a professional photographer but often meets with setbacks. Zhong Yuan's presence gives him a lot of pressure. Xiao Wen and him need to adapt to the new changes in life.

Qian Yong's efforts pay off and he becomes famous. The famous photographer's daughter, Qiu Xue Er admires him and helps him in his career. Zhong Yuan can't swallow this and decides to challenge him.

Xiao Wen is hesitant in the breakup and meets her ex-boyfriend, Yi Ye. They have broken up for 2 years. Both of them play the piano and the chemistry is still there. Her boss even comments that they are a golden couple in the piano entertainment circle. Yi Ye discovers she was forced to break up with him because of his parents' pressure. They have wanted him to inherit the family business. After the breakup, he was so upset that he refused to touch the piano again.

She finally knows that he sacrificed his love for piano because of her. She rejects his offer to send her home, but he hugs her. He still loves her and wants to pick up the interest again. Guan Tian Jian tells Xiao Wen that Yi Ye is injured on the day he is supposed to sign the contract with his company.

The accident causes the nerve in his right hand to be seiously injured and he can never play again. Their love is shortlived and his dream is ruined. Both hug each other to cry bitterly. He needs Xiao Wen to give him consolation.

She finally gets him to sleep but misses Qian Yong. Qian Yong is selected to participate in the national photography contest and he hopes that Xiao Wen can be his model. He stays in the rented workplace and ignores Xiao Wen when she brings him food. Xiao Wen complains about him ignoring her and Qian Yong suggests a breakup. She cries upon leaving.

She faces her two lovers and have to make a choice between them. She decides to stay by Yi Ye and moves out. Suddenly a big truck that carries a big red cloth blocks the movers' truck. It is Qian Yong. He removes the cloth and reveals the big piano that he has promised to buy for her. He tells her,'come to my home!' and finally she agrees in tears.

Introduction on characters
1. Gu Li Wen - Xu Ru Yun
She is a piano teacher and is working part-time at a restaurant as a pianist. She likes guys who work for their dreams because she is doing the same. Before her breakup with Yi Ye, she is soft and is an introvert. After the breakup, she becomes lively and strong. But when she has love problems, she can't face up to them. She releases an album out of the blue and her career becomes smooth. But this also causes her love with Qian Yong to be tested. Especially after meeting Yi Ye, she becomes more indecisive.

Her acting is passable although not fantastic. At least, she is better than many in their debut dramas.

2. Lin Qian Yong - Fan Zhi Wei
He is a university student who likes phototaking. His dream is to be a successful photographer. After knowing Xiao Wen, he starts to accumulate knowledge in taking photographs. After a few setbacks, he finally sharpens his special skill to impress others. However, this causes him to break up with Xiao Wen and he only knows to use work to forget the pain. When he wishes to return to Xiao Wen, she already has Yi Ye.

Due to his experience, he is the best among all with his expressive acting. He is nominated for several times in the 'Golden Horse awards' for best actor.

3. Qiu Xue Er - Tian Xin
She has beauty and also the wits. She has an angelic face and also a perfect figure. Sh is frank and isn't bound by rules. She has the flair to judge works and is her father's capable helper. She often likes to pick on Zhong Yuan, but admires Qian Yong's talents.

This actress is often associated with Category 3 movies but suprisingly, she comes across well as a professional. She has managed to shed her sexy image and make all forget her past.

4. Zhong Yi Ye - Yan Cheng Xu
Xiao Wen knew him when both were in university. He was forced to give up his love for piano because of his father and Xiao Wen left him. Many years later, he sees her again and is unable to forget his love for her. Thus he aspires to move towards his dream again. However during the period when he works part-time, he accidentally gets hurt and can never play the piano again.

Yan's acting has improved and proves that he is no longer the raw actor we saw in 'Meteor Garden'. If you can accept his mature image in 'Meteor Garden 2', you can also accept him here.

5. Zhong Yuan - Zhou Yu Min
He is still a student and is Qian Yong's strong contender. He is bad-tempered so his works show lots of passion and belief. He will risk his life to take a good shot. His works are widely admired by others as they claim to have life and influence. He has an on-and-off love relationship with Xue Er.

This is a big change for Yu Min, which is so different from his usual quiet roles. But I like it. At least, he attempts to crave another route for himself.

6. Guan Tian Jian - Zhu Xiao Tian
He is the producer of a music company. He has a lot of foresight and is the sole person who recognises Xiao Wen's talents. He demands a lot on album production and doesn't lower his expectations even under pressure. He is direct to all and is a very capable producer. I still think Xiao Tian looks immature for the role. He can cut his hair shorter to project a more mature image.

7. JJ - Wu Jian Hao
He is a pub owner who is warm to others and treats his worker, Qian Yong, well. He is also a good friend of Xiao Wen to listen to their troubles. To both, he is like a teacher and also a friend. Jian Hao is definitely too young! The same suggestion as given to Xiao Tian - cut his hair!

The opening theme is 'The gentle good night' and the ending theme is 'Love for loving you'. Both songs are from Zhou Yu Min. I find that he sings slow ballads well.

Interesting facts
This is Ru Yun's debut and she is supposed to be a great pianist in the serial. She jokes that acting in here makes her feel like an idol and go through the joy that singers don't get. Working with a good cast gives her confidence too. She accepts it because of 3 reasons. One, the producer is Chai. Two, she is the director's close friend. Three, the cast is good. The first episode has the intimate bed scene so even her recording comapny manager comes to inspect the shooting. Luckily he respects the director and allows the scene uncut.

She doesn't disappoint them and the director praises her for being talented. She also adds scenes and does the talking in the description scenes. She is able to do well because she is a singer and many adore her voice.

Most of Yu Min's scenes are with Zhi Wei, Tian Xin and Fu Lei (he acts as Tian Xin's father in the serial). Many wonder why Zai Zai's face turns red whenever he sees her. He admits shyly that he can't imagine that such a wonderful figure can exist in true life. The first and only photography book that he has seen is on her! He even remembers that he studies from the first to the last page. Tian Xin is impressed by his joke. She has thought he was an introvert but never expected him to be able to joke well in real life.

They are supposed to have intimate scenes according to the manga version. But because of the limited number of episodes, they are cut. Yu Min finds it a pity and that sends all roaring with laughter. His scenes with Fu Lei give him a lot of pressure because he speaks Mandarin very well. But Yu Min has problems pronouncing words and has N.G.s that make him feel bad. He gets along best with Zhi Wei, but unfortunately, they are rivals here.

Reporters are curious to know the development so they pester Yu Min to find out more. Yu Min says that Zhong Yuan looks down on Qian Yong from the start but upon knowing that he has unstoppable flair, he jumps to his death (Reporters know that it is just a joke.) He actually learns how to snap better shots. Many are curious how he portrays the angry scenes - he has the experience of blowing his top when the company gives him too much work. So many think that he is looking at the magazine owner but he has thought of it as the company top to vent his anger!

Cai Yi Lin is given a guest role as a singer and this is also her debut drama. After long hours of work, she realises the pressure of shooting a drama. But she loves it more and more. At first, she is supposed to finish in 3 days but due to her tight schedule, they are forced to complete in 1 day. She has gastric pains but she persists till the end.

She finds the director helpful to show her the ropes and is very patient with her. At first, she is worried but she manages to pick up confidence. Many try to de-stress by making her happy. Tian Xin often encourages her and gives her assistance too.

You can see that I am unintersted to write detailed reviews on idol dramas - that's because most of them are quite trashy. I am immune after watching so many idol dramas by Chai Zhi Ping these days. It will kill my interest one day if this goes on. Not every adaptation is as good as 'Meteor Garden' - I wonder why she did so many?

We can see why other dramas don't do well in viewership ratings. This serial is no exception. Maybe the storylines aren't suitable in the Taiwanese context. This one is only medicore. No surprises - except that all have started to smoke in here. As a non-smoker, I hate that. Especially when Qian Yong is a student and he is a smoker! Only watch if you have the time and patience.
