China bans scandal hit stars
Sat, May 16, 2009
China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has issued a warning to Chinese media not to publicise celebrities who are "scandalous", "offensive" or have criminal records.
According to a Lianhe Wanbao report, the directive could be triggered by Hong Kong actress Gillian Chung's TV interview about the Edison Chen nude photo scandal in March this year.
An article posted on SARFT's website on May 6 says that programmes attempting to attract audiences by re-visiting the sex scandal cause "psychological damage" to the persons involved, and is "unhealthy" for the public.
There has been no official word on which celebrities are considered "scandalous" or "offensive", but sources from the media industry say there is an unofficial blacklist.
Who is on the list?
Besides the obvious suspects like Edison Chen, Gillian Ching and Cecilia Chung, Chinese actresses Fan Bing Bing, Tang Wei, Vicky Zhao and Alyssa Chia are apparently also persona non grata.
It is well known that Tang Wei stepped on the toes of Chinese authorities with her politically controversial and sexually explicit role as the lover of a traitor in Lee Ang's "Lust, Caution". Her appearance at the Hong Kong Film Awards was even edited from the Chinese broadcast of the event.
Fan Bing Bing, another up and coming Chinese actress, has also been censured for explicit scenes in a 2007 film Lost in Beijing, in which she stars with Hong Kong actor Tony Leong Kar Wai. The movie went through five rounds of editing before it was allowed to be screened in China.
But a month after its release, it was abruptly pulled and authorities asked the stars in the movie to "undergo strict re-education and deep reflection".
Vicky Zhao has yet to incur the wrath of the censorship board but triggered widespread public ire when she posed in a Japanese flag for a magazine photo shoot in 2001.
Taiwanese actress Alyssa Chia has been embroiled in scandal since her much publicised split with husband Charles Sun. He allegedly took their four-year-old daughter away after they argued and hinted that she was having an affair.
Victor Huang, who was seen holding hands with Taiwanese singer and host Annie Yi (estranged wife of Harlem Yu) last year could also be on the list, as his interview with a Hunan television channel was cancelled at the last minute.
Former actress Liu Xiaoqing is allegedly on the list after she was charged for tax evasion.

What exactly does this mean...bleh can't they be more explicit.
This article is bs because of so many errors and twisted facts. It has been posted up in asianfanatics and the response is overwhelming. It has been pointed out that this report is false and there are many other trustworthy sources that contradict this report.
"Yes, there was a ban on "using controversial artist rumors as way to stir up news"...aka gossiping. That is fact.
However, the list of people banned is completely made up. Like I stated before, the law was mainly targeted at Hunan TV's interviews of Gillian. Other than Tang Wei, the other artists mentioned are far from being banned. Even Gillian has just had a Sina interview within the last couple of days (the Hunan TV interview incident was about a month ago)."
Even the 163 article stated that those people are not blacklisted:
the above post is one of the many post in asianfanatics forum and it pretty much sums up what should have been reported. The added celebs are a gimmick to draw attention. can you imagine some one like vicki getting ban? She is everywhere and is one of the most famous actress out of china. She is a money maker and CHina is not stupid enough to ban her . also, her status in the entertainment is respected by the pppl in her field. renowed directors wanted her to be in their movies and she has many support among her peers. whether you love her or hate her, she has proven herself to have staying power (this can be further supported by how far she has gone compared to her hzzg costars). fbb is arguably the other actress that is very successful nowaday and for while is giving vicki a run for her money. However, her rise to popularity has passed and Im still deciding if she has staying power. fbb is known for her look more so than vicki and her role is limited. I can't imagine her as mulan or act in a cross dressing role.
Vicki can act and have the look. Its hard to deny that. she have a string of movies that garnered her plenty of experiences. The most notable traits of vicki is that she is humble, educated, easy to get along with, and keep to herself. perhaps her easy going attitude got her into plenty of trouble with in the early years of her career, but she seemed to have learned from that and nowaday she appeared to be more reserved. vicki is probablly only asian actress that I admired because I feel like I grew up with her. I have loved her since her hzzg day as a kid. she has since then weathered so many obstacles in her career but she stands strong. She has turned out to be such a beautiful woman with grace and dignity.
CCTV recently did an interview of mainland china fashion magazine editors/make-up artist. In the interview, the person stated that sale volume of Elle China (April issue) double, because they using Vicki as the covergirl.

Director Jingle Ma and cast members Zhao Wei and Chen Kun attended a press conference on Saturday during the Cannes film festival, promoting the upcoming live action film "Mulan".
Zhao Wei, who played the title role of Hua Mulan, said "Mulan" was her most toilful film ever.
"I got up at 6:30 every morning, and had either fighting scenes or crying scenes for all day. It was a big challange," the actress said.
However, Zhao Wei thought she's lucky to get such a role. She said she admires the courage of Mulan.
"The role requires a great confidence. I feel myself getting more optimistic and confident."
Actor Chen Kun portrays a general who fell in love with Mulan and assisted her with her fighting career.
"I found that behind a great woman there is also a great man," he said.
A trailer was projected at the press conference, in which Zhao Wei shows "explosive acting," according to a report of sina.com.
Yu Dong, president of the publisher Poly-Bona Film, told the web portal that they have made deals with buyers from German, Turkey and Middle East, while publishing in France and English-speaking countries are still undergoing negotiation.

i like the movie a lot too
i agree with you, i was really confused when i first watched it too. i thought he really did love his wife, but then at the end he tells the demon he loves her! i didnt get it. if he hadnt said that line, i wouldve really believed he loved his wife. maybe he didnt really mean he loves her? maybe he just likes her? i think he only lusts after her, but then the end...*sigh* i dont know. id just like to believe that he only lusted for her.
i think Donnie Yen's character returned by chance, but i dont really remember. i'll have to recheck that.
and i dont think the general was jealous really, becuase she did pick him over Donnie Yen's character. maybe he was a bit wary? but he did treat Donnie Yen's character nicely and like a brother, maybe because he feels bad for "betraying" him so many years ago.
does anyone maybe have a link to the trailer? i really wanna see it!
It is confusing...maybe that's what the director wanted..keep people debating..love is suppose to be confusing and it's not black or white.
I just don't like the feeling that he betrayed his wife and that his feeling towards PeiRong was feeling of loyalty and honour.
Everything up to the point when he said to the demon "I love you except I already have PeiRong", led me to believe the General loves his wife. He was even willing to make a deal with the demon and sacrifice his life for the return of his wife...but then the last comment made me unsure. If he had said "I love you, except I love my wife more" would make things more clearer. Maybe he does love the demon, but also loves his wife. I like to think he just lust after the demon but who knows. I think the only person who can clarify this is the writers who wrote the script and what they actually trying to convey.
Thanks for replying.

That's right.that one line...it never existed.
Chen Kun gave her a ring. It was on a clip. she said he gave it to her for their long friendship. My mandarin is not that great, but I think it symbolizes friendship and love (context of friendship love)
Here is the clip.
