Default Jet Li almost die in Tsunami

    Jet Li recalls tsunami terror

    10/01/2005 - 16:32:32

Martial arts superstar Jet Li has spoken of his terror, running from the Indian Ocean tidal wave last month.

The Hero actor was holidaying in the Maldives with his family when the tsunami hit the coast line and caused widespread death and destruction to the surrounding countries.

At a celebrity fundraiser concert in Hong Kong on Friday, Li told the audience: "The waves came really quickly and formed swirls. I carried my daughters and pulled my maid and ran.

"I'd only walked three steps when I realised that the water had already come up to my waist. When I looked back, everything I saw minutes ago was gone. Everything was surrounded by the ocean. The houses collapsed.

"I continued to run but the water was already up to my mouth."

Li and his family managed to find lifejackets in their hotel as they waited for a second round of bigger waves to hit the island.

Li has donated €120,000 to the tsunami relief fund and marks the tragic event as a defining moment in his life.

He adds: "Some things I dared not do in the past, I am ready to do them now."

what happened to michelle saram? didn't heard abt her. one tvb executive, 樂易玲, nearly died as well. i think they are in a boat or something, then their boat capsized. i think the reason why they didn't die was because they wore life jackets

From the Life section of The Straits Times dated Thursday, 30 December 2004.

Here is a news I found about Michell Saram

"SINGAPORE'S Michelle Saram is safe and sound in Sri Lanka, but will stay for 'a couple of weeks' and see if she can help out in relief efforts, said her manager.

The model-actress had gone there with friends last Thursday for a holiday.

When the tsunami hit on Sunday, 'she was close to but not on the beach', said Ken Lim, who is also Hype Records director.

Lim, who is better known as a Singapore Idol judge, says he had been worried for Saram on Sunday as he knew how much she loved the beach.

But she called him that night to say everything was okay." (end)

Kudos to Michelle's courage and compassion!!!

TVBS had a special where Jet Li showed up on the stage and explain his ordeal.

He was talking about how the water rush up to him and in his thought he just have to hold on his daughter. And then the 2nd wave where he and whole bunch of people in the hotel had to lock arm and from that moment he thought the unity of Asia... the asian people, family and living the moment. Very touching speech.

Ya he was up there with Eric Tsung and the host. Jet Li look chubby too and he basically said what I said in the previous post and that he is donating money to the charity. It was one of the few times that I notice Eric not cracking any jokes.

Ya it was on Fairchild TV (Canada's TVB channel) in Toronto time and in Saskatchewan was really late so I got a glimpse of it... but Jet Li's presentation was pretty emotional.
