    Default Original vs. Remake

I'm doing a paper comparing the mythologies presented in movies..and I decided to compare the ones shown in remakes a while ago contrasted to their modern versions. Problem is that I can't think of a good movie to do...besides Miracle on 34th Street, but I don't particularly feel like doing that one. Anyone else have good suggestions? Thanks!

Sorry I'm very slow and my vocabulary aren't great....so I don't fully understand your question...you want to contrasted between two same movie titles. one is the original and the other remake of that original???...

Anyway, why don't you try to write about Romeo and Juliet...the 1968 versus 1996(modern version of shakespeare)

well..ppl mostly say the older ones are better...because the modern ones' story usuall r changed alot and a better ending than it's suppose to be........

I generally like originals better than remakes, because remakes are more modernized and sometimes get really outlandish. Old school baby old school.

In what ways does the mythologies differ in remakes?? Any examples? I have trouble quantifying this and it is driving me mad.

Well, I was considering the Parent Trap..i.e. in both versions, the mythology that "divorce is bad" and that in order to be happy, the family must end up all together. There was also the mythical conception of the "evil stepmother" who is out to wreck it all. I'm just interested in how these same myths are presented differently in the two versions...based on the time periods they were released, and what kinds of effects this has on the viewer and how it reflects the societal views then and now, etc. Except I don't feel like doing Parent Trap...and I can't think of any other movies at the moment..thanks for the Romeo and Juliet idea..though I find that kind of hard since it's Shakespeare, and you can analyze anything w/ Shakespeare to death lol and still never arrive at a reasonable conclusion. But of course, that's just my opinion.

    Anyone know other remakes?

Get Carter (Michael Caine's brilliant version and Sly Stallone's crap version), both movies are about revenge. Caine's Carter died in the end cos' he was ruthless, and killed everyone in his way, while Stallone managed to miraculously survive, because, despite being a revenge movie, the fumbling Stallone Carter didn't really get to kill anyone at all (it's either people committing suicide before he reaches them, or him merely knocking people out). Ohohoh.

    - The Little Women

    - The Cruel Intentions

    - Thomas Crown Affairs

As for Romeo & Juliet....the original one is way better than Leo's one !

depends on the movie, but most of the time remakes tend to suck

Lol I do? Well if you guys have comments have the movies, that would of course be greatly appreciated =) Thanks everyone for their input
I don't know if I still want to do this topic, since it's so hard to find remakes that I actually like writing about. How is the King and I? And what was the original movie that 10 Things I Hate about You was a remake of?

Maybe I'll stop being "creative" and just do what the original topic said: base it on one movie =( though I find that kind of boring.

yea..i agree with you. movies/series with kung fu fighting or something...they use too much of those modern techniques and machinery... sometimes without that much stuff (glow or light or something) is better... and u actually see more real fighting and effort into the movie..

As far as I know, Taming of the Shrew is a Shakespeare play and 10 Things I have about you is the modernized version of the play. Same thing as Emma and Clueless.

sorry can't help much with ur assignment.

Just hope that more people can rattle off more remakes and I'll see whether I've seen em before.

Most of the time, I've only seen the original, but not the remake (or vice versa).

Thanks everyone! Actually I decided to change my topic...since I really couldn't find too much to say about the whole mythology thing. I think I'm going to do a semiotic analysis on a picture instead =P That way, I won't have to re-watch the movie over and over and over...but just look @ the picture over and over and over lol. When I have time though, I might try to watch more of these remakes...but evil university = no time to watch movies =(

sometimes remakes just lose the touch, because u already kno the story.... and also, they always try to outdo the original and sometimes end up worse anyway.
