    ^ Yup, it was a peacock-themed dress!

    Few days ago YM attended some event in Nan Ning for their Tao Hua (Peach Flower) Festival:

    So apparently, the rumour before that Hawick and YM are costarring in a romance flick is true--it's due to start filming in April in Sanya. Hilariously, I thought this rumour was false because after the initial news, I heard absolutely nothing about it. It turns out, this is because everyone in YM's forum has decided to ignore the movie. Most don't even refer to it by name, they just say things like 54 (="ignore") "that" movie. (And of course, not a single mention in the other Baidu forum I frequent, the FengMi one.) YM's forum, which is usually very quick at posting any news, has not even made a post about it yet after the announcement...it's like most people have chosen to pretend the whole thing doesn't exist, LOL.

    Poor Hawick...I guess it still hasn't been enough time for most of YM's fans to accept him.

    To be honest I'm not that excited about it either...one because I still haven't been convinced by WeiMi's onscreen chemistry, and two because the movie sounds really boring and not my type of movie. I just wish YM would go back to ancient dramas/movies soon! XD

    Well, truth to be told, their chem was very mediocre in Ru Yi and the series was lame. Hence, no one's interested in WeiMi much.

    ^ Yeah, you know it's a problem when even YM's own fans don't want to watch it...or even talk about it...

    LitB posters: (Yang Mi, Shawn Yue, Miriam Yeung)

    (I've been trying to ignore this for awhile...but, is it just me or...does the way they styled the letters make it look more like "Love in the Butt" than "Buff"??? )

    Quite creative in the first one, I like the way they stuck YM's name in there to emphasize her character's "third wheel" status in the movie! XD

    Totally agree. I was so open to good WeiMi chemistry in Ru Yi. But they totally SUCKED, at least in my opinion. So now I don't want to watch anything with Hawick and YM together because Ru Yi killed it for me. Maybe I shouldn't be too adamant and give them another chance.

    I've watched 3 eps of DQZD so far and it's quite good, YM appears in the 2nd episode and so far has had only a bit of screentime but she is actually one of the more prominent female characters so far in a heavily male-focused series (not complaining!). Also she looks super cute and young/fresh-faced! I still like HFCQ better (as I expected since HFCQ injects a bit more fictional and romance plotlines to make it more interesting, whereas DQZD is more serious) but this is definitely still a very good watch!

    More photoshoots...first one is a new pic from an old photoshoot, the rest are new I think.

    (I'm liking her sideswept straight hair lately...her big curls she used to sport a lot were lovely, but the straight hair looks more elegant and sophisticated.)

    I really like the third dress on her for some reason, although, although the shoes don't match.

    Hopefully the chinese gg is good though, since for some reason the few modern mainland c-dramas are watch tend to be very "meh" to me.

    Although, she's super amazing having accomplished all this despite being so young,lol.

    EDIT:
    Lol... I actually avoided listening to YM's album/live singing, but now that I've listened to it, it really isn't that bad. Her voice is a bit "bubble-gummy-ish" so it fits the feel of the album. I like her singing voice better than the speaking one, anyways. Although she can't really hit the high notes live... (I randomly listened to the cover of Jay Chou's Wu Ding she sang with FSF,lol). Despite the album not being as terrible as I thought, nonetheless I'm glad YM is a actor-singer, and not the other way round.

    Yup, seems like February was her "break" month, March is her "photoshoots/activities/promo" month, and April she'll go back to filming.

    Some recent pics, from magazine photoshoots I guess: (Full scan from "Top Jewelry" magazine here: http://ww1.sinaimg.cn/large/71d2a0c1jw1dqtj9bgd46j.jpg)

    I was just skipping through HG's DMY interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ_95R6OO9E) and I found it cute at around 3:50 when he's asked about YM and he describes her as a typical "Beijing ya tou".

    Kinda a random out-of-the-blue GeMi rant: XD

    Watching DQZD also makes me realize how it seems like YM and HG's onscreen characters seem to be "you yuan wu fen" since they're often "paired up" but in different dramas! e.g. HG's love interest in CP1 was called Ling'er...YM played a character named Ling'er in DQZD. Then in DQZD, YM's love interest is Meng Yi...the character HG plays in the Myth. And in Gong, YM's modern-day boyfriend is named "Fei Fan"...while HG's character in "Modern People" is also named Fei Fan.

    Other minor onscreen-character-misses: YM (GX in ZJZ's ROCH) plays the daughter of HG (GJ in TR's LOCH)...there's a character named "Hu Ge" in Beijing Love Story (though I don't think there is any interaction between YM and him in the drama)...plus YM was rumoured in YZ's "Zhu Xian" while HG later was the lead in TR's Fantasy Zhu Xian, then YM was rumoured in YZ's "Yun Zhong Ge" while HG later was the lead in the prequel TR's DMY...both played characters who time-travelled with similar names (Qing Chuan vs. Xiao Chuan).

    (Yeah I know it's random, just thought the coincidences were kinda funny! )

    I don't know whether it's only me but from recent clips & pics, I find HG not as attractive & good-looking as before. He has this tired & thin look now and seems to have aged a lot in the recent years.

    Wow~ totally didn't know this before. Now that you mentioned it, kindda feel sad for GeMi they're like perfect for each other but couldn't be together.
    On other note, I'm happy that reporters started to talk about YM and HG again. Unlike before where they don't even dare to mention

    By the way I love how Hu Ge said "Beijing ya tou"

    I think he is having a bad day on that day... or didn't have enough sleep the day before. I remember his appearance in his latest talkshow (the one with the beard) isn't that bad. He looks handsome there

    Yes, I've been slacking again in YM news updates...will catch up again after I finish watching DQZD! XD I started off thinking this series was good but didn't like it as much as HFCQ, since DQZD is much slower-paced while HFCQ moved at breakneck speed in the first part. However, DQZD is definitely a slow build and really grows on you--by the middle I started liking it more than HFCQ and am now addicted to it. It's definitely deeper and more layered than HFCQ--also (as I expected) a pretty perfect follow-up--events/characters are mentioned in DQZD which make me go "hey! I remember that from HFCQ!" Heheh.

    Bringing over some pics to share my DQZD love: (most of these have probably been posted before, but a long time ago...)

    Princess Ling (though still just a regular girl in her pre-princess days in this pic) and her lovely white horse:

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i39.tinypic.com/20fb3ww.jpg')

    I am a bit amazed at how good at horse-riding Yang Mi is in this series. O_o Especially the scenes where she is on horseback galloping forth at full speed...I don't think I've seen her do this much riding in any other series! It's pretty cool to watch, and a shame she didn't get to use more of that skill in her later dramas. (Unless maybe she had a stunt double for it?? Well I mean, I am sure she had a stunt double for the scenes where she's actually doing stunts on the horse! (Which, super cool btw.) But I think the regular riding scenes are her?)

    I know I complained about YM's styling in DQZD before (especially the haircut), however as always YM looks much better onscreen, in action, than she does in still pictures. Ling'er is very cute as a girl and in her princess days, then she looks quite pretty after her marriage with her hair down looking more grown-up.

    Speaking of which...it's another tragic wedding for YM in her dramas...(this must happen in about 90% of her ancient series, I swear! )

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i41.tinypic.com/2u57yab.jpg')

    ***minor spoilers***

    This is like HFCQ all over again, where YM's character is forced to marry her love interest's brother...I feel so bad in both when people keep telling Xinling Jun and Meng Yi respectively that Ruji/Ling'er is their "sao zi" (i.e. older brother's wife...auuggghhh the heartbreak!). Funny enough this also reminds me of YM/LDX's second collaboration (but which was aired first)--in DMXN! Where YM also has no choice but to marry LDX's brother, however the brother is a good guy and agrees to a fake marriage so YM and LDX can ultimately be together). However LDX's Meng Yi in DQZD is one of my favourite characters, a much more interesting and dynamic character than his rather stiff bore of a character in DMXN. YM's Ling'er and Xiao Man actually are pretty similar in personality though.

    And later on there's also parallels to WZJ, since Ling'er also volunteers to be sent to the Xiongnu for the sake of her country, and the Xiongnu Chanyu (king) wants to marry her...(Actually come to think of it she ALSO got sent to the Xiongnu leader who wanted to marry her in MRXJ! XD) Ling'er is a lot luckier though--since first of all, the brother in DQZD is good and does the whole fake marriage thing; and she also gets help from kind-hearted Xiongnu people to prevent from having to marry the Chanyu. (Unfortunately, I think the ending of DQZD is destined to end a lot more tragically... )

    Anyways totally in love with Ling'er and her "Meng Yi ge ge". ^_^ Seriously, Meng Yi is pretty much the perfect character, so "shuai" and "ba qi", I am in complete "hua chi" mode over him right now. (Sorry, English words are escaping me right now in describing how swoon-worthy he is. ) I haven't adored a male character in a drama this much in a long time. He was already awesome but I nearly died during the part where he discovers Ling'er went off to the Xiongnu and then flies into a rage, declaring he is going to go rescue his Ling'er single-handedly from the Xiongnu...*thud* (Ok, I am kinda a sucker for those kinda scenes alright... XD Fortunately, the smart and feisty Princess Ling is no damsel in distress and can definitely handle herself, preventing her dear "Meng Yi ge ge" from recklessly throwing himself into certain death! )

    (Actually I really liked the scene in MRXJ where Zhou Yafu rescues Xueyuan from the Xiongnu--though the same situation would definitely NOT have worked out in DQZD's case. Speaking of which, funnily enough I realized the voice actor for Meng Yi is the same guy who dubs a lot of Mickey's roles. No wonder it sounded familiar. I always find it funny when YM's love interest in her dramas are dubbed by the same person but played by different actors...e.g. Mickey's Zhou Yafu/4th prince shares a voice actor with LDX's Meng Yi, and also I read somewhere that...ironically, apparently FSF's 8th prince and Hawick's character in Ru Yi are also dubbed by the same guy. )

    Cute Ling'er/Meng Yi pics:

    Fun and carefree days while still in the court: (I love watching Ling'er and Meng Yi scheme together against the bad officials of the court, hee!)

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i40.tinypic.com/6yh2mg.jpg')

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i39.tinypic.com/2zyvpfo.jpg')

    Later after Ling'er has to leave the court for Qin Zhi Dao:

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i40.tinypic.com/14xylat.jpg')

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i44.tinypic.com/14279zd.jpg')

    (The last scene looks so sweet, I haven't gotten to that part yet, looking forwards to it. ^_^ I like how it's on the Great Wall. I mentioned this in the DQZD thread but one of my favourite parts of DQZD is how it showcases some really magnificent scenery/sets--mountains, Mongolian plains, deserts, the city of Xianyang, the Great Wall, and of course the Qin Zhi Dao.)

    Despite the fact that romance is not a focus in DQZD I think I prefer it this way--it doesn't feel too heavy-handed or overly melodramatic, but it is dramatic enough to make me fall in love with it. So I actually think I prefer this type of story to HFCQ's romantic storylines (which DID get a bit over-the-top at times), even though it's mostly in the background in DQZD (letting the main plot take front stage).

    thanks for the screencap. ym does look much better later in the series when her character matures. is there much fighting sequence in this series or is it mostly battle sequences?

    Thanks for the review mango! Makes me want to watch DQZD (when I have more time). Can't believe that this took so long to be released. It was filmed like what? 5 years (or more) ago? Anyhow, the dramas which have better storylines & characterization seem to be YM's earlier ones which is disappointing! Have yet to come across a drama/movie of hers which I really really want to see in the recent 2 years. Except Hua Pi but she's only playing a supporting character in there.

    It has a lot of fantastic battle scene but also definitely some very good fighting sequences as well! I particularly liked two where Meng Yi and Fu Su are practicing their swordfighting in the palace--very pretty, set against the lovely architecture. Actually lots of cool displays of swordfighting from Meng Yi in general--when he saves Concubine Yu, when he saves the king, when he fights his brother Meng Tian in order to try and go save Ling'er... XD (Yeah I think the other guys have pretty cool swordfight scenes too but only Meng Yi's are coming to mind right now...he's not even the best at fighting--Meng Tian is definitely better than him and Fu Su might be a tad bit better as well; Meng Yi is more "book smart"--but yeah Meng Yi is still a pretty good fighter and super "shuai" with a sword... *swoon* )

    Again, I mentioned this in the DQZD thread but this series is extremely aesthetically pleasing--scenery, sets, costumes, fights, battles, props, calligraphy, actor/actress eyecandy, music (love the Mongolian-themed music and diao (condor) sounds, reminds me of LOCH 2003)...some very nice displays of both Qin dynasty and Xiongnu dance/music; definitely no shortage of pretty things to look at!

    Yup, pretty much 5 years ago. I saw someone in the Baidu forums point out that, once you've sold the rights to CCTV it's like it's entered the "vault". Apparently they have lots of great historical dramas on their hands that they haven't aired yet...no pressure for them because I guess other channels cannot air it until CCTV does. It's much faster to get aired on other channels (which CCTV might then air later).

    Anyways, does seem like a lot of her better series are the earlier ones but I thought HFCQ (which was filmed a year ago) was very good too (especially in terms of entertainment value, although I found that DQZD is much higher-quality overall). Also, Hong Wu Da An (filmed 2010) looks very good as well--in fact I'm planning to watch that after I finish DQZD since I found download links for it! ^_^ I've been so spoiled in 2012--not even 3 months yet and there's been 5 of her dramas out (Ru Yi kinda sucked but I've enjoyed the other 3 I've seen), 2 movies, cameo in Gong 2, and a 3rd movie coming out soon. After that we'll have to wait until the summer (3 movies coming out then) but I'll probably go back and finish some of her older series I half-finished while I wait!
