I'm thinking - the level of mysticism and legend associated with the characters. We know these characters are extremely powerful, but we don't know much, if anything, about their martial arts background (for example, who was their teacher?)

the 2 Lords are from Ode to Gallantry. They are the ones who started the theme of "Shang Shan Fa E" -- rewarding the good and punishing the evil. Their disciples were unrivaled in the central plains during the time of Xia Ke Xing.

Golden Snake Prince is like the Dugu Qiubai of SWORD STAINED WITH ROYAL BLOOD. He hid some treasures and martial arts in his tomb, and the main character stumbled upon those remainings.

Lord Long and Lord Mu of Gallant Island are the two people that discovered and studied the martial arts on Gallant Island for years (From Xia Ke Xing). While Golden Snake Prince Xia Xue Yi practiced golden snake sword and became the most powerful martial artest in his time (From Bi Xie Jian).

Correct me if I'm wrong, my information is all from the computer game Jin Yong Qi Xia Zhuan and a TVB adaption LOL.
