Default [Ch 8] The Shining Star (星闪闪)

New show. (Finally, no more crappy HK dramas!)

    Synopsis

In the darkness, stars twinkle... even for a visually handicapped girl with too many troubles on her young shoulders. Stars newcomers Dawn Yeoh and Sebastian Leong (from Project SuperStar), Pierre Png, Hong Huifang, Zheng Geping, Huang Shinan, May Phua, Eelyn Kok, Constance Song, Adam Chen, Zzen, Wang Yuqing and Jason Oh. Project SuperStar contestants Leon Lim, Lai Lijun and Wendy Toh guest-stars.

From Mon March 6, every weekday at 9pm.

    Summary

A-Li (Dawn Yeoh) is a young pretty girl who was born visually handicapped. Despite never having seen how she looks like, her surroundings and the happenings around her, she remains optimistic and strives to be as independent as possible in her daily life, sometimes even going out of her way to help others.

Her birth father Jiang Hai (Wang Yuqing) abandoned her from young and she followed her mother Pei Pei (Hong Huifang) when she remarried a sloppy and lazy man Jin Tian (Huang Shinan). The family depends on the declining trade of hand puppetry for a living. Due to this, A-Li has no choice but to search for more jobs to earn enough to send her half-brother Xiao Feng (Sebastian Leong) to university.

A pair of new occupants moves into the block which A-Li is staying in. The young father refuses to tell others his name so A-Li calls him ‘Nameless’ (Pierre Png). He has a mischievous eight-year-old daughter Anqi, who together with him, turns the block topsy-turvy with their antics...

The new girl Dawn Yeo was from The New Paper New Face 2003. Think her performance is pretty decent for a first timer, but I've watched only 2 episodes so far. Supposed to be the next 'Fann Wong' (read Chinese website, ahem!)

So far I prefer the other girl (the one whose parents are filing for divorce). Her diction is clear and she doesn't seem to struggle with her lines.

Pierre Png's daughter is pretty good as a brat also. I felt like throttling the little critter.

I thoroughly enjoyed this show... Dawn Yeoh is soo chic... i tod she sounds like a taiwanese... anyway she is a million times more watchable than Fiona xie

it's bizarre that some of mediacorp's most enjoyable shows are those minor productions which rope in mostly less know veterans & newbie artist.. like Holland V was a runaway hit...

The HK dramas are boring, unless its Wuxia of course...

Mediacorp rarely produce dramas nowadays...They earn so much money through those star-searching shows, and they can't ccome up with a great drama series? When is the last time I saw Zoe Tay or Fann Wong in dramas?

One drama per year for Zoe and Fann?

The other girl (I never got her name) has had some acting experience before already. She's acted in quite a few dramas before, starring beside Chen Hanwei, Edmund Chen and Thomas Ong.

Dawn Yeoh's performance is quite good for a newbie, IMO.

    Today's episode:

Ah-Li almost gets raped by Ah-B, but was rescued by Nameless. Then he escorted her home. WTF?! He should've sent her to the police station to make a police report! I guess that gave enough reason for the baddie to carry on for a few more episodes.
