Badminton is a great sport I remember that a had a great deal of fun playing it in school once. The only problem with badmnton is that I sucked at serving and everytime I served it eithers flies all the way up to the ceiling or into out-of-bounds.
If you started, you must finished.
If you do it, you must give it all.

Haha, guess you are quite athletic. Find somebody who knows how to play and you may be able to see the difference.

In the sports universe, I read one article by american scientists where badminton is considered among the top 5 most demanding sports. If remember correctly, first most demanding was football (american), ice hockey, badminton, basketball, football (soccer), etc...

Funny enough, most of us give up badminton when we get to our 40's, it's very hard on the knees, reflexes and eye coordination getting weaker ... we turn to tennis as it is a more relaxing game

Let's take a look at the stats........
1985 World Badminton Championships - Han Jian vs Morten Frost. Han Jian won 14-18, 15-10, 15-8.
    Time: 1 hr 16 mins
    Shuttle in play: 37 mins
Match intensity (actual time shuttle in flight divided by lenght of game): 48%
    Rallies: 146
    Shots: 1972
    Shots per rally: 3.5
    Distance covered: 4 miles
    You were saying...........
If you posted the above numbers compared with the tennis game that was played might give a better idea about the requirements for the games. Badminton is a 'DECEPTIVELY EASY' game until you really play it seriously. I can tell it as when younger, I played for my local select team coached by a Chinese national team player.

i love it when i smash my enemy towards his body... i also love it when my enemy runs around the court while i just stand on one area just passing the birdie on the opposite side where he is...

May I ask how good your opponent was?

    Done:-
1985 World Badminton Championships - Han Jian vs Morten Frost. Han Jian won 14-18, 15-10, 15-8.
    Time: 1 hr 16 mins
    Shuttle in play: 37 mins

    Rallies: 146
    Shots: 1972
    Shots per rally: 3.5
    Distance covered: 4 miles

1985 All England (Tennis) Championships - Boris Becker beat Kevin Curren 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
    Time: 3 hrs 18 mins
    Ball in Play: 18 mins
    Match Intensity: 9%
    Rallies: 299
    Shots: 1,004
    Shots Per Rally: 3.4
    Distance Covered: 2 miles

In short, the badminton players ran twice the distance and hit almost twice the number of shots in half the time.
Badminton is only easy when played outdoors as a picnic game a la Princess Diaries 2.

I think badminton is the sissy version of tennis, which I prefer to play over badminton. However, if you wanna use sports as a tool to get closer to a girl, badminton is the one to choose since most girls (that I know) aren't athletic enough to play tennis. So in short, it's worth it to look like a pantsy and get laughed at if playing badminton gets you what (or who) you want.

Jet Li plays badminton to keep his agility, incidentally, so it can't be all that bad.

Likewise, lots of people used to regard taichi as an exercise for the old and the weak... Ever tried to fight a real taichi martial arts student?

One thing you are right though, quite a lot nice looking girls do actually play badminton.

me me me!!!! when the players are good, the game gets very interesting...of course it's always more fun to play than to watch. and i used to play mixed doubles...men can be very merciless and always try to aim for my face. but one of the most exhiliarating experience is when i can pscyhe the opponent with a drop or a finishing slam/smash. tennis and badminton require different techniques...i've always found tennis harder as i was never properly trained in tennis and it's too difficult to pick up in old age. but my friends who play tennis find badminton difficult as they never expect that weak and light birdie to zoom pass their eyes so embarrassingly. hehe...it's always fun to cream those who make fun of badminton.

also, many of my guy friends quickly changed their minds about badminton after a good match against me...that is, when i used to be good. what i don't get is, why do so many consider golf a sport and not badminton?

A player transitioning from badminton to tennis is harder than from tennis to badminton. You know, in badminton a flexible wrist is needed whereas tennis is the opposite, I believe. It's very easy for a badminton player injure the wrist playing tennis, other than that it shouldn't be too big of a problem. ;-)

I thin you are wrong, in badminton you are not only talking the wrist power, you need your arm power too for smashes and lob. i think the part where you need the most wrist power is the backhand but you can always use the overhead shot.

agree...badminton requires more skills than most people give credit for. just because the birdie and racket are light do not make it a sissy sport. i'd love to smash (meaining having the birdie going at an incredible velocity, a finishing move) any guy's face just to prove my point.

i like the drop best because it can be very fustrating for the opponents especially during a singles match.

i like drop serves the best. no one ever expects them to make it in and never/rarely go for them. so the server wins the game without really having to work at it while pissing the opponent/s until he/she/they lose control to properly function.

Yeah... I play it.. enjoy it very much. Have to build the wrist muscles ... power first then technique.
I enjoy hockey, basketball, soccer, cricket, softball, rugby, rugby league, tenpin bowling, golf, lawn bowls and netball.
