It's going to be a huge challenge to live up to the legend of the 1980 original. Any time that one competes against a legend, one is at an automatic disadvantage.

Still, this looks like it might be the first remake of THE BUND to be able to hold its own against its legendary progenitor: the 1990s TVB remake and the Leslie Cheung/Andy Lau feature film remake failed to capture the spirit of the original. Perhaps this one might capture at least part of it.

As an aside, TVB must release the uncut original on DVD.

I think Surferket meant VCD because only VCD version divided into 2 parts. DVD version does not. The DVD version I see has 14 discs together with 3 episodes each.

Yes he does. I would prefer him to grow beard all over his jaw though because that way he will look even more special and even more handsome. Like in Shang Hai Tan, I couldn't take my eyes off his beards eventhough they are not real.

I think this series is awesome but i might have an advantage because I never saw the old Shanghai Bund. The plot is entirely new to me and I don't have to hassle with comparing to a different version.

I just saw the coolest fight scene ever with the introduction of a impressive new villian! My jaw dropped to the floor. I'm very excited to see what's going to happen next. HXM is too hot to handle. The female charactors are very dynamic and strong, and in my opinion, that's very rare to find in many China series. I'm overjoyed to see this producer go the extra mile to give all these characters great backgrounds and strong bonds.

i havent watched the old Shanghai Bund either, so i am very excited to watch this one......especially with HXM and Sun Li in it
