    Default Abuse of Moderator powers

How is this handled for arbitration?

For example the sticky of a thread used only to propagate the opinion of the Moderator above all other's. For the deletion of the thread pointing to this fact by said moderator without a PM as to why. The reposting and deletion of that second thread by the Moderator without a warning or a PM. A third post that was locked along with the threat of a temp-ban in that thread (still no use of PM).

I have to disagree with you on the stickys: All of the stickys are forum guidelines, helpdesks, etc to eliminate spam and misc threads that do not need a thread. In addition, moderators do not need to pm members if when they delete, move, merge, etc threads: The admin announcements section is for that. Check this section if a thread is missing. Lastly, threads that are deleted have reasons behind them, check the admin section (mostly for breach of forum rules).

    Hopefully this helps you.

SEK POR TIN DIDN'T JUMP OVER ANY OCEAN! isn't a forum guideline, creates more spam and doesn't help anybody.

I'll wait for the Moderator's announcement of which rules I've violated.

Well, you've violated basic courtesy for starters. Instead of PMing Ken to discuss with him about the removal of that sticky thread and voice your opinion, you decided to openly criticise him of abusing moderator power (a pretty damn serious allegation) in the Wuxia Fiction forum, which by the way is the wrong place to make such a thread. You then continued to make these threads and posts in that forum knowing full well that it is the wrong place and it should be taken to PM or this forum.

Edit: another rule broken - you're not supposed to have two concurrent active accounts on the forum:

    http://www.spcnet.tv/forums/search.php?searchid=124057

You're posting both as Dirt and Dennis Chen. That's a very much bannable offence.

Secondly, build a bridge and get over it. It's just a sticky thread for fun and everyone in the Wuxia Fiction enjoyed that. It'll get old soon and it'll be removed.

Finally, if you need tissues, I'll be happy to provide some.

Thank you to Candide and hkopinions for helping to explain to Dennis our operating guidelines here.

I've given Dennis an enforced three-day break from the forum to calm down and get a better perspective on this matter. Hopefully, when he returns, he'll understand that there are appropriate and inappropriate ways of handling disputes with other posters (including moderators) and can continue contributing to SPCNET.

If you'd like to discuss this matter further with me in private, please use this e-mail address: [email protected].

The perspective is that you used your Mod powers to sticky a thread that did not follow the guidelines of rules for Mods. When called out on it, instead of letting me know which rules I broke, you deleted the thread. I've been coming here for 3 years, I have an idea of how you Moderate, this isn't the first time you've broken a forum rule yourself that you do not allow others to break. There have been times when people will post something about Wuxia TV in the Wuxia Forum and you've chastized them over it. Then, when there was a TVB Wuxia actor that you liked, who died, what did you do? You posted his death on the Wuxia forum instead of the TVB forum. So, the rules apply to all of us but not to you?

Even had I PM'd you about the sticky you made, through my prior experience with you, I can already guess how you would have responded. You would have told me it was all for fun and nobody is getting hurt and people are enjoying it and it would unsticky itself in a week or something. Then you would have ignored me. The rules (in order for them to work) should apply to everyone, even you. If you have any sense of what is right and wrong, you will stop trying to silence me and allow the rest of the SPCNET community (including the other Mods and Admins) to weigh in on this matter.

Dennis, attempting to evade a ban by logging in with an alternate account is definitely against SPCNET rules.

Please stop, or the adminstrator will likely seek an IP ban on your account.

You are making a mountain out of a molehill, and it's not worth it at all. You know better than that.

well, it seems that members of the spcnet community (membs and mods) have weighed in on this issue, and the consensus is that you're over reacting. did ken cheng break the rules that would normally apply to other members? yes. did he intentionally do it to flaunt moddie power or to piss other members off? no.

i think you're just carrying this too far, and should just let it drop. if you dislike his moderating that much, don't go to that forum. frequent the ones he does not moderate.

and i'm not standing on his side because we're both moddies. he knows we've disagreed about issues in the past.

Sticky threads are those basically glued on top of all the other threads at each forum. Even without replies, it will remain on the top (mostly technical things such as rules, search engines, etc.)

Yes, I agree. This issue is a personal issue that should be taken care of via email/ pm and not threads. Hopefully, this is resolved.

Continue with the Guo Jing spirit, Dennis. Fight for what u believe in and never give up.

Ken, Dennis is just doing what u admire most in Guo Jing. Fight till the end for what he believes in which, from his post, seems to be justice and fairness.

I agree that both of u should sort things out in private and please listen to each other's POV. Both of your have your points. Dennis is over reacting but he just want fairness. Ignoring him and banning him wouldn't solve anything if he's the persistant kind. Ken sometimes broke forum rules (and acted unfairly) unintentionally, but he's not abusing Mod's power intentionally.

Real life isn't wuxia, and Dennis isn't saving any lives here; he's having an inexplicable hissy fit over a very trivial matter.

Dennis chose to violate several rules of basic Netiquette, and he knows better than that. He'll serve the remainder of his penalty (two more days), then hopefully return with a more cooperative frame of mind.

I'm not going to criticize Dennis on a personal level, which would be neither appropriate nor necessary, and certainly wouldn't be fair at this point since he can't respond until Thursday. I agree with everyone who has shared the opinion that this is a private matter and should be settled offsite. There's no reason to drag everyone else into this.

Finally, there's one thing Dennis and I can probably agree upon, and that is that the Sek Por Tin sticky should be dismantled (it's served its purpose). It will be taken down concurrently with Dennis' return on Thursday night. The reason for the extra two day delay is to make an important statement: reasonable requests, when made reasonably, are always considered and will very likely be put into action. Reasonable requests presented in an inappropriate manner, however, will not be considered until the request is made in an acceptable manner.

well, i think the problem isn't that we're not listening to his opinion. in fact, many of us agree with it. it's just the way he chose to voiced this opinion that's the problem. if he had approached this in a different manner, then the thread would have likely been taken down or dennis chen would somehow be assuaged. but he chose to convey his opinion in a very standoffish way. it seems that most membs agree that this should have been a private matter, and it's been blown way out of proportion.

"Again?" Have you been banned from SPCNET before?

I don't think you need to worry. You're only in danger of a ban if you violate SPCNET rules or severely violate rules of basic Netiquette, and if you're relatively new, you get plenty of leeway. Persistent violation of rules, however, can and does lead to bannings.

Most bannings tend to be for commercial SPAM. It's the most common and one of the most bannable offenses because it's attempting to use SPCNET as free advertisement for commercial products.

We will listen to and respect Dennis' opinion. Whether or not we *agree* with it, however, is a different matter. Either way, all posters must communicate their opinions in a way that respects SPCNET rules and fellow posters. If they consistently fail to do that, then they do open themselves up to disciplinary action.

When his ban expires tomorrow night, Dennis is free to come here and share whatever opinion he wants...provided he does it in a respectful and appropriate manner.
