    Default Why Martial Arts

It seems that China has had many arts, philosophies and cultures, such as calligraphy, Weiqi, architecture, furniture making, cooking, etc, that were divided into distinct schools of thought, sects, styles and clans.

So why is it that martial arts culture(and it's inclusive arts such as swordplay) has been the only art has been able to gain such wide popularity in novels?

Do you think it would be possible to write a novel about, for example ancient chefs in China, and make it as exciting as martial arts?

in china, martial arts probably arn't as popular as they may seem here...it's just people here tends to be obsessed (i mean, the online wuxia forum networks). even here, most of my friends who watch asian tv & read asian novels arn't so much into wuxia :P.

it's like the assumption that all anime are either dragonball z or sailormoon .

Weiqi?! They did one... Kinda boring. Martial arts deal with life and death, so it is much easier to write.
Burying his Dugu 9 Jian manual under an epitaph, Dugu Qiubai felt he has left his legacy for the next generation. He then moved to Shaolin to study Buddhism, sweep floors and tap elite fighters.
