He was 82 years old and died on 11 September 2006. Last seen as the patriach in The Kindred Spirit.

One of Hong Kong's great veteran television actors. I grew up watching him in dozens of series through the 1970s and 1980s, depicting all manners of character from wuxia powerhouse to corporate mogul to loving father figure. He was able to portray any kind of character, good or evil, very convincingly and effectively. He will be missed.

I'll always remember him as DGSD '81's Mo Yung Bok, LUK SIU FUNG's Dook Goo 1 Hok, Lee Yim Bak, and Jade Taoist/Old Sabre Tyrant, LOCH '82's Luk Sing Fung, and HSDS 86's Wu Ching Lau, as well as Dodo Cheng's father in 1980s modern series such as THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY and THE BROTHERS.

Oh man! I loved seeing him in tv serials, the most memorable role of him as I was growing up was him as Divine Doctor Hu Qing Niu of Butterfly Valley from HSDS86. I was very touched by his acting, he was all strict and tough on Zhang Wu Ji but eventually Wu Ji grew on him and they had a nice father-son sorta relationship.

I think he was also in Lin Ching Kuet and The Foundation with Miu Kiu Wai, Felix Wong, Barbara Yung and Kent Tong. He was a very charming veteran actor. I liked him. So Sad! He sure lived a long life. I could only hope I'd live to be somewhere in my 80s or older. He'll always continue to live on in our memories and every time we rewatch his old tv serials.

Nope. Some HK actor by the name of Kwan Saan would be her father.

He was prominently featured in HK films of the 1950s & 1960s and I can remember him playing the main villain in the smash hit sequel to A Better Tomorrow.

Kwan Hoi San does have a son, however, Kwan Chung, who was also a fixture in the HK TV series industry during the 1970s and early 1980s. His most famous role was probably that of the No Flower Monk in the classic 1979 TVB CHOR LAU HEUNG adaptation (although Kwan Chung, like his father, was in many classic TVB wuxia series such as LUK SIU FUNG, THE ROMANTIC SWORDSMAN, and DGSD '81). He left Hong Kong for Taiwan in the early 1980s after running into some trouble with the law. He's still in Taiwan to this very day.

Although i didn't get to see many series and movies that involved him in a bigger role, the ones that i do remember him in he left an impression.

My mother had always told me that my grandfather had been good friends with him in their youth.

My gosh, at first I didn't believe it. I never knew he was sick. Just thought he went into retirement. I always thought he was only in his 60s. Still looking youthful in Kindred Spirit. I grew up loving his acting. Very sad news indeed...

i remember watching the tvb anniversary special a few years ago, right after he had his stroke. i just remember feeling so sad for him because he was in a wheelchair and could barely talk. i'm glad he lived to a ripe old age, and had such a celebrated life.
