Default Your favorite TV adaption divergences

Most of us don't feel too positively about TV adaptions diverging from the original novel. However we probably also prefer some of these divergences to the novel version. What are some of these preferred divergences for you?

For me, they include the following:

-ROCH 2005, during Li Mochou's suicide, she called out Lu Zhanyuan's name passionately. This made her seem more vulnerable than ever, showed her true feelings, and confirmed her suffering all these years.

-DGSD 1982, when Duan Yu initially met Qiao Feng, he thought that Qiao Feng was drinking because he got dumped by a girl (or some similar relationship problem). Such naivete (?)

-DGSD 2003, Xiao Yuanshan and Murong Bo doing a high-five to each other, followed by a big laughter--before they found out who each other was. Further adding to the list of DGSD ironies.

Hap Hak Hang - They made the story have a funner side to it and not so dark as it is in the novel.

Five Grand Masters (AKA LOCH Taiwan) - They had a version of how the Mt Hua Shan Tournament fight went. Of course, this is totally made up by the producers, but at least we get to see some fighting.

I like how in ROCH 83, the match between WYS and YG was an actual fight. I didn't like the ping pong match with the 2 men between YG and WYS as it have it in the novel.

I like the twisted end of DGSD '81 if only because it gave us a couple of really cool fight scenes.

THANK GOODNESS they gave us a real duel between Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yip Goo Sing in the 1970s TVB LUK SIU FUNG.

As a Gwok Jing fan, I really enjoyed Gwok Jing actually tying the two Greats at the Second Mt. Hua Sword Tournament in LOCH '82 (no going easy on him, no nearly getting beaten).

I liked how in ROCH '83, the Golden Wheel Monk and Fok Do partially set Hung 7 Gung and Au Yeung Fung up to kill each other. It was kind of cool tying in the death of the two Greats to the new Mongol menaces.

    I liked the following:-

    1) In HSDS 2000, ZHang Wu Ji tells ZHou ZHiruo he will kill her if she harms ZHao Min. Thot this shows how important ZHao Min is to Wuji, a man who has been an advocate of peace and forgiveness in his life.

    2) Mu Nian Ci's final goodbye to Yang Kang in LOCH 1983. It was touching and heartwrenching. The song was especially apt.

In the novel, it was a one slash and done duel right?

If I can recall, in the Taiwan 88 version, they made Guo Jing lose to Huang Yaoshi. But the only problem was HYS beat him after 301 moves, which was 1 move over the limit allowed.

The whole way that Yeung Hong's life and death were depicted in LOCH '82 humanized the character. Compared to the novel's version, who was completely unsympathetic, LOCH '82 made the Yeung Hong character one that audiences could sympathize with even as they condemned his actions. Miu Kiu Wai's Yeung Hong was undoubtedly evil, but he was also a well-rounded character who displayed the full range of human emotions.

Yep. One thrust straight into the throat. Had Yip Goo Sing won, the fight would have looked the same.

In the LUK SIU FUNG TV series, we got eight minutes (yes, I timed it) worth of pure duel. No CGI. No wirefu. Just some really cool sword choreography in regular and slow motion.

In roch06, XLN was often seen contemplating about the night in mount Zhongnan under THAT tree with a blush on her face; Seems like she enjoyed it. I respect XLN's character in the novel, but this change in TVB makes me laugh all the time.

In the 90s Taiwan HSDS i liked how ZZR went to Wudang to challenge Z3F and got her *** whooped but also she realised the error of her ways and became a nun, finally able to put her demons to rest and sincerely apologised.

90s TVB XAJH - Jacky Lui teaching that bully official a lesson and stealing his uniform. Funniest scene in the whole series.

The weird thing is that XLN did enjoy being ravished by "YG" until she found out that it was someone else. At that moment, she was angry yet happy at the same time. It doesn't really make her less respectable because she couldn't do anything about the situation and her reaction can be justified by her mistake that the perpetrator was the man she loved. With today's increased sensitivity to women, perhaps JY would have XLN kicking YG's butt for supposedly violating her even if she did love him.

I think there was anything wrong with XLN blushing. In my view, she was probably agreeable to having sex with YG although I'm sure she was wondering why didn't he just ask instead of doing it this way.

However, this is still rape because she was agreeable to sex with YG and not with what ever his name is now after 3rd edition. So her consent was not valid.

The way Hua Tian Gan died in Linked Cities. More satisfying than the original story.

"Dugu Qiubai" was in LOCH03. That was what Zhou Botong named a pet tortoise he kept while imprisoned on Peachblossom Island.

I have thought of a few more from movies (you know they are always changing details left and right):

-in LEGEND OF THE LIQUID SWORD (1993), Dugu Qiubai is Chu Liuxiang's master.

-in ASHES OF TIME, all the Greats were miserable failures at life.

-in the comedy EAGLE SHOOTING HERO, Yideng was gay, with Huang Yaoshi being his ultimate lover.

-in KUNG FU CULT MASTER, Zhang Wuji was actually secretly ambigious. Also, Zhang Sanfeng was a funny fat guy who didn't take anything seriously. Kind of like Zhou Botong but slightly more mature.

-in SWORDSMAN II, Dongfang Bubai was a beautiful woman.

-In SAVIOUR OF THE SOUL, Little Dragon Girl had a twin sister who behaved like a man.

-In ROYAL TRAMP II, the One-armed Nun was poisoned by a sex-craving drug, and she wanted to get it on with Wei Xiaobao (I'm pretty sure this didn't happen in the novel?)

-in SWORD STAINED WITH ROYAL BLOOD, Golden Snake Prince Xia Xueyi was actually alive.

    -in SEMI-GODS SEMI-DEVILS (1994), Li Qiushui's sister was given a major role.
