Default JDorama: Tiger & Dragon [Nagase Tomoya, Okada Junichi]

What do you guys think about this serial? It's so very different from all the other Japanese series I've seen thus far. I was confused at first with the constant maneuvering between the various rakugo stories and what's going on with the characters in real life, but now I think I'm finally starting to catch on after reading about what exactly rakugo is. I don't find myself laughing out loud very much, but for some reason, this drama is entertaining and growing on me more and more.

I just watched a few minutes of the first episode and I don't understand the story. and then I fast forward it and I still don't understand the story so I stopped watching it.
What exactly is the story about?

This definitely isn't a show you can just watch for a few minutes here and there and expect to understand it. If I'd done that, I definitely would have given up on it too, especially with all the over-the-top acting. Even though each episode focuses on a different rakugo story, the overall storyline involving the real characters continue throughout the show. It's basically about two guys on different paths in regard to the world of rakugo. Throw in ditzy tour guide Megumi and things get a little complicated.

yup!!! I agree, at least after episode 1 you will understand the story. I love the way they keep flipping back from the modern and ancient era.. soooo funny!!! man!!!!

tiger ... tiger... gilletiger..... .... also the rakugo classic story was very good, and they way Tiger (forgot his character name, tiger is his stage name) related to the modern story was so funny! He wasn't even trying to concealing the real names of the people he used in his story, and it was about his teacher and the family! a bit rough and vulgar, but funny.
    Spring Summer Autumn Winter.
    Pair ducks nest fly together.
Clemencies. Summer life, feather winter white.
Green meadow in spring, before the autumn bite.
    Watching the red gown.
    And none else, alone.

I just watched that episode last night. On top of the humor, there was even a little mystery thrown in regarding who had actually written the love letter 30 years ago.

The end of episode 5 was kind of surprising...and sad. This serial really does have it all!

I really liked "The Cat's Plate" story. I hope Ryu makes a full comeback to rakugo and not just for a pair of vintage jeans.

I have the ending theme song stuck in my head. It's great (except at night when I'm trying to sleep).

Yep, that's the one. It makes me want to wave my arms around like all the cast members do. The MV is nice too.

Takashi had alot of screentime in episode 8, but too bad Ginjiro got beaten up so much.

This is the first time I've heard of the term NEET: Not in Employment, Education, or Training.

Does anyone like Jumptei Jump? Just looking at him makes me want to laugh.

I've finished this show, but I realized I should have watched the special before the first episode for it all to flow in order. Oh well, no biggie, but just a heads up for anyone else who's going to watch this.

It's always interesting to see how each episode opener would say "Tiger & Dragon" in the introduction. The most surprising one was Don-chan's...I was expecting some rendition of "tiGore anduh dragone" and he looks straight into the camera and says it straight-forwardly in accent-free English.

The last episode was so sweet. More people should watch this show. It's funny, witty and truly excellent overall!

Hmm...I saw this serial on sale but still hesitating if I should pick it up since I am not a fan of both leads. I do feel that Okada Junichi has a rather mature deposition despite his relatively young age.

I'm not a fan of Nagase Tomoya or Okada Junichi either and yet I still enjoyed this drama. I think your appreciation for this serial really depends on your sense of humor and what you find funny. At the beginning I wasn't laughing much and felt confused and/or lost most of the time, but then something just clicked and it was all good from then on as I picked up on more and more of the subtleties that make this show memorable.

I agree about Okada. I thought he was in his 30's, but he's actually still in his 20's.

The actor on the right with the shirt and suit, looks a lot like Sunny Chan in that poster only.

Actually Tomoya does remind me of a much tougher version of Sunny, and not just in that poster.
