Ever notice how although there are plenty of legitimate complaints about the 1980s adaptations not being faithful to the novels, using cheap props and sets, etc., that nobody ever complains about the casting? At least as far as casting was concerned, the 1980s adaptations seemingly could do no wrong. TVB had the Midas Touch in the 1980s as far as casting their wuxia series was concerned.

I recently learned who played the roles of the 5 old guys from Sword Stained with Royal Blood from the 80s version (Felix Wong version). I can't believe how TVB chose such the right people to play those baddies. Those guys, upon seeing their faces, I hate them already.

Lawrence Ng isn't even really that bad an actor. In fact, he's quite good...especially in villainous roles. In the year 2000, however, he fit the role of Cheung Mo Gei about as well as I fit into a pair of Shaquille O'Neal's shoes. A younger Lawrence Ng back in the early years of his career during the 1980s *might* have been able to pull it off, but Ng's acting style and appearance make him better suited for villains. The benign Cheung Mo Gei was completely the wrong role for him.

He would have made an awesome Au Yeung Hak or Fok Do, however.
