Maybe his acting will make up for it. But look wise, Peter Ho is so wrong for Ximen Chuixue.

its honestly not hard to portray innocence, most actresses do it fine (ex. charmaine), but liu yu fei juss isnt a XLN type. i dont see any coldness at all. and flying into every scene with her wedding dress and waving her arms juss doesnt do it for me.Originally Posted by batmankiller

alec su was bad ( reason stated by huangyushi)
dicky is a good wxb, but i agree, the script made it bad

The reason why nobody *****es about the 70s/80s actors/actresses as 'miscasts' is that they were often the first impression we got of the characters (i.e. before we read the books) and so it sticks as how 'it should be'.
Maybe if Jimmy Lin was the first person we ever watched to play say Ximen Chuixue and we never read about Ximen before, we just might think he is the most suited Ximen and Damien Lau sucks.
Its BIxie Jianfa Gawdammit you guys!!!!
Or maybe, you know, the 1970s/1980s actors really were that good.Originally Posted by CC
The "it only seems better because of nostalgia" argument isn't completely invalid. In some cases, it does apply. It's an overused argument, however, that isn't always proven or qualified. The problem with using this argument *all* the time (which some people do...not specifically CC here) is that it becomes impossible to make value judgments and comparisons between older works and newer works because supporters of the newer works will invariably claim (without proof) that supporters of the older works favor those older works only out of nostalgia. This line of argument is flawed because it dismisses the merit of older work as simply the distorted perception of its audience. It's a perspective I find patronizing and often, simply wrong.
One way to get a better measure of such things is to find a complete neophyte to the genre and let him compare the older works to the newer works.
i repressed this one well. just recalled it:

oh, and i agree that i can't stand jimmy lin nor chi lam as LXF either.
I like Chi Lam's version of Lu Xiao Feng. I think he's suitable.

hey jin yong was satisfied with her performance and that's the biggest opinion that counts yet..he believed she did better in part II when YG was grown up, she was only cold to those that she didn't know. but the coldness slowly evaporated once she met YGOriginally Posted by LuNaR
YG and SLN in Kungfu hustle. No portrayal can be worst than that.
Considering it was a joke rather than a serious portrayal, I thought it was great...hilarious, even.Originally Posted by Yeung Gor

Yea I know it's meant as a joke so I did enjoy the movie. But it's still count as a portrayal in some ways.Originally Posted by Ken Cheng
Maybe his new arm is arm transplant.

There're such a lot of miscasts in TV adaptations of JY's novels so I can't determine who is the worst.
To me:
- In LOCH adaptations, Zhou Xun and Barbara Wong were not suitable.
- In ROCH adaptations, all actresses in Huang Rong's role were miscasts.
- In SPW adaptations, all RenYingYings, except Anita Yuan's and Quan Zhilin's RenYingYings, were false.
- In HSDS adaptations, all Zhao Min, except Gigi's and Alyssa's ZhaoMins, were tedious.

I totally agree with many opinions above. I cannot see how you categorise Au Yeung Pui San as a "miscast" one. Have you seen her portrayal of mature Huang Rong at all?Originally Posted by RongYingMin
Maybe RongYingMin feels that Au Yeung Pui San is not beautiful enough to play the most beautiful woman in the Condor Trilogy.![]()
