you do kno that XLN appeared to be younger than what she was.. i mean yse she was SUPPOSED to be 18.. but she was supposed to look younger so yea.. 15-16 was a good age.. so yea that is supposed to high school age and btw.. XLN had beauty beyond belief.. and Liu Yu fei was just that... so yea, plus if you watched the whole ROCH you'll know she did a great job in acting the "coldness" and feelings that XLN felt for anyone EXCEPT YG...

its honestly not hard to portray innocence, most actresses do it fine (ex. charmaine), but liu yu fei juss isnt a XLN type. i dont see any coldness at all. and flying into every scene with her wedding dress and waving her arms juss doesnt do it for me.

btw the girl that played chen ying in loch 06 was pretty bad too

The reason why nobody *****es about the 70s/80s actors/actresses as 'miscasts' is that they were often the first impression we got of the characters (i.e. before we read the books) and so it sticks as how 'it should be'.

Maybe if Jimmy Lin was the first person we ever watched to play say Ximen Chuixue and we never read about Ximen before, we just might think he is the most suited Ximen and Damien Lau sucks.

The "it only seems better because of nostalgia" argument isn't completely invalid. In some cases, it does apply. It's an overused argument, however, that isn't always proven or qualified. The problem with using this argument *all* the time (which some people do...not specifically CC here) is that it becomes impossible to make value judgments and comparisons between older works and newer works because supporters of the newer works will invariably claim (without proof) that supporters of the older works favor those older works only out of nostalgia. This line of argument is flawed because it dismisses the merit of older work as simply the distorted perception of its audience. It's a perspective I find patronizing and often, simply wrong.

One way to get a better measure of such things is to find a complete neophyte to the genre and let him compare the older works to the newer works.

hey jin yong was satisfied with her performance and that's the biggest opinion that counts yet..he believed she did better in part II when YG was grown up, she was only cold to those that she didn't know. but the coldness slowly evaporated once she met YG

Susanna Au Yeung Pui San was a great Huang Rong in ROCH upon appearance/costume and acting. I can not see how she could EVER be considered a miscast.

I totally agree with many opinions above. I cannot see how you categorise Au Yeung Pui San as a "miscast" one. Have you seen her portrayal of mature Huang Rong at all?
